Chapter 430: Chapter 423: Single Dormitory

She stowed her bag in the cabinet, filled a basin with water, and started to tidy up the dormitory. As she stood, hand on hip, she realized that she had forgotten to bring a bedding roll. Her small wooden bed was still utterly bare.

She wasn’t here as a doctor, where everything would be prepared for her. Instead, she was an intern, expected to bring her own items. The dormitory at the main hospital didn’t feel like a hospital, its regulations weren’t particularly strict. Therefore, they had free rein to outfit their rooms as long as they didn’t go overboard. Of course, this also meant they weren’t supplied fresh bedding and other such essentials.

Was she really going to buy a bedding set now? Wow, she really was considering to roll up her sleeves and buy a bedding set. Otherwise, was she planning to sleep on the bare wooden board tonight?

“Knock, knock…”

A sudden knock at the door interrupted her train of thoughts. She put down the duster she was holding. Not sure who could be visiting her, she opened the door. The light outside was mostly blocked, and yet, it was still so dazzling that it stung her eyes.

By the time her eyes had adjusted to the light, Gu Ning had already stepped in, carrying something in his arms.

“Uncle Gu, is this for me?” Upon seeing what Gu Ning was carrying, Tang Yuxin immediately cheered up.

Because it was not just anything, it was a complete bedding set, it seemed like pillows were included as well.

“Yes, I knew you might have forgotten yours, so I brought this over for you.”

Saying that, Gu Ning opened the bag, pulled out the bedding, and began to spread them out. The dormitory bed was different from the standard single beds out there. It might be a smaller, but it was more than enough for one person, especially for Tang Yuxin who wasn’t really overweight. Even if there were two of her, they probably would fit in these small beds. However, even so, the bedding from home might be too big because they were oversize.

Gu Ning had already made the bed neatly, even folding the quilts in a neat and tidy manner. It looked almost like he had a touch of obsessive-compulsive disorder.

He smoothed out the sheets until they were wrinkle-free, then unbuttoned his jacket and took it off. He then filled up a basin with water from the bathroom, grabbed a cloth, and started to clean the windows. He did everything diligently, not missing a single corner of the window. Because he was tall, he could reach the top of the window effortlessly. But Tang Yuxin on the other hand needed a stool to do so.

And all the while, Tang Yuxin just stood there, unsure of what she was supposed to do next.

Gu Ning didn’t utter a single word, but he quickly finished cleaning the windows and even tidied up the bathroom. It seemed that he wasn’t squeamish about cleaning the toilet either.

In no time, the entire dormitory was as clean as new, every corner was spotless. This was probably part of his innate character, a seriousness that he carried no matter what he did. He had high standards for himself, even more so when it came to his living conditions. He was highly disciplined, especially concerning the cleanliness and upkeep of his living environment.

Tang Yuxin just stood there, stunned. She had never thought that Gu Ning would be able to clean windows, sort out the kitchen, even scrub the toilet. These were tasks that were typically done by, well, women. Someone like Zhang Yong’an would never step foot in the kitchen, let alone clean the toilet by himself. And even her father, Tang Zhinian, hardly ever steps inside the kitchen nowadays.

And here was Gu Ning, sorting everything out meticulously.

“Un…uncle Gu…” Tang Yuxin stammered out, “you know how to clean?”

“Hmm, is there a problem with that?” Gu Ning replied as he put his jacket back on, ensuring that it was wrinkle-free.

“Um, no, no,” Tang Yuxin nodded continuously, “do you know how to cook?” she asked without much thought, but she had not expected an honest answer from Gu Ning.

“Why, you want to eat something?”

“No, no,” Tang Yuxin waved her hands quickly, feeling the atmosphere turn somewhat odd.

“I got to go. Call me if you need anything. Our company is not far from here, it’s quite convenient.” With that, Gu Ning put on his hat and went toward the exit.

“Okay,” Tang Yuxin agreed without realizing it. Gu Ning’s gaze fixed upon her, it was mix of emotions that she couldn’t discern.

Once Gu Ning had left, Tang Yuxin immediately threw herself onto the bed. The soft blanket was so comfortable and warm, permeating a fresh cotton scent. The pillow was made from buckwheat hulls, her favorite, and even had a pillowcase.

She rolled around on her bed a few times, basking in the feeling. Having her own room, her own bathroom, and her own shower room to boot, she couldn’t be more satisfied.

“Knock, knock…” Another round of knocking rang from the door. Tang Yuxin sat up abruptly, pulled off the hair tie to fix her hair, and opened the door. She had thought that Gu Ning came back again but to her surprise, the visitor was someone else. The gentle sunlight was much weaker compared to earlier, but still clear.

Because it was almost dark.

Gu Ning’s height blocked a vast portion of the sky while the one outside her door now was just an average person. So, it wasn’t Gu Ning, it was Li Jia.

“Wow, Yuxin, this is your dorm? It’s so nice,” Li Jia went right in and began to touch the table and chairs, before moving on to the kitchen and restroom.

She continued to the bathroom. Indeed, it was a full bathroom, equipped with a toilet and a shower.

“This place is great,” Li Jia sat down on the wooden bed, directly plopping down onto the neatly folded blanket. “How come I didn’t get such treatment? I’m staying on the fifth floor and have to climb five flights of stairs, in a four-person room.”

“But it’s still better than the school dorms,” she turned and rolled over on Tang Yuxin’s bed, “I’m staying with Wei Jiani and two interns from other schools. We all came here for internships, so we have quite a few topics to discuss. But Wei Jiani still acts like a snob, thinking that if she interns here, she can get a job.”
