Chapter 418: Chapter 411: She’s Back
Inside the box, Tang Yuxin had already extracted the gallbladders from these stunned snakes. There were a few smaller ones she didn’t take. Instead, she put them in a bag.
“What do you need these for?” Bao Shuai pointed at the snake in Tang Yuxin’s hand and asked.
“Samples,” Tang Yuxin sealed the bag tightly, “We still don’t know what the situation is outside. If the virus has really started spreading, then this snake might be able to save lives.”
“I can save one or two people, but no more.”
Bao Shuai suddenly felt that Gu Ning’s niece was impressive and likeable for her thorough understanding.
Soon, the sound of a helicopter could be heard from outside. Bao Shuai had called the police. Situations like this are best handled by professionals since they are too massive to handle alone.
Tang Yuxin emerged, carrying the stunned snake. People were already in handcuffs. The quickness of the special police officers left the place practically traceless in no time.
Tang Yuxin was now on a helicopter. It was her first time riding in one. As the helicopter took off, she saw the expanse of lush trees she had been around. She had only gotten to the edge of this rainforest but had never ventured further. The dangers within were possibly beyond her imagination.
The helicopter directly flew her to the airport from where she took a charter flight to Qing’an. Gu Ning and Bao Shuai had things to do, and certain matters needed to be explained. Of course, they also took the two stunned snakes for further research.
Upon disembarking, Tang Yuxin was escorted all the way back to Li Tang Village. Clutching her bag, she felt an urgency to return home. She yearned to fly home directly. She had been in the rainforest for half a month. She wondered how Chengcheng was.
“Thank you,” Tang Yuxin got out of the car, thanked the soldier driving, and ran indoors, bag in hand. She didn’t even change her clothes. They were dirty with mud, dust, and snake blood. There was a strong smell of fishiness on her, followed by a hint of cold fragrance that overpowered the foul smell.
Tang Zhinian suddenly looked up.
“Yuxin is back!”
“How do you know?” Ren Li stood up while still holding her son’s hand.
“Do you smell… ” Tang Zhinian inhaled. The air carried a cold fragrance, reminding them of the frost and snow. It was much like the scent of orchids in the snow or plums in the ice.
“It’s a fragrance,” Ren Li sniffed again. The realization lit up her eyes; the scent was Tang Yuxin’s. Yuxin didn’t like her own body odor and always hid it with a medicinal pill, which lasted a month. It was normal to smell her fragrance at this time if she hadn’t taken her pills.
The door suddenly opened, and Tang Yuxin came in, looking dusty and thin.
“Yuxin …” When Tang Zhinian saw Tang Yuxin, he almost hugged his daughter and cried.
“What happened to you?”
Not only had Tang Yuxin lost weight, she had visible bloodstains and wounds on her face and hands.
“I’m fine,” Tang Yuxin put down her bag, then took out a bottle.
She bent down to find Chengcheng who was still unconscious. He no longer looked plump as before. He was skinnier since she had left, but Ren Li and Tang Zhinian had taken good care of him.
Although he didn’t look as chubby as before, his little face still had some flesh. His clothes were clean. She reached out to touch his hand; it felt warm and clean.
Ren Li was afraid Chengcheng might feel cold, so she stayed with him all the time, holding his hand, even while he was unconscious. She wanted her son to know he wasn’t alone. His parents were with him, and his sister had gone to find a cure.
They hadn’t understood until now why Tang Yuxin had insisted on finding the antidote herself. Seeing her current state, they realized how hard it was. It could’ve required risking her life, yet she didn’t let anyone know.
Ren Li quivered her lips as she turned to Tang Zhinian. Tang Zhinian held her hand tight and shook his head.
“I trust Yuxin; she can save Chengcheng.”
Tang Yuxin, you could say, had brought Chengcheng into this world. If not for her, there wouldn’t be a Chengcheng. So she would never give up on Chengcheng; she would never abandon her little brother.
Tang Yuxin took the bottle out of her bag, put on gloves, stuck a needle into the snake gallbladder, drew some Snake Gallbladder Liquid out of it, and injected it into Chengcheng’s IV bag.
If all went well, he could wake up tonight. As for the weight he lost, he could easily regain it once he starts eating well again.
Meanwhile, the whole room was filled with a pleasant fragrance, even as Tang Yuxin’s clothes still stank.
Tang Yuxin let Ren Li and Tang Zhinian stay with Chengcheng while she went to her room, opened the cabinet, and prepared to change her clothes. But she discovered a bag in her wardrobe she hadn’t seen before.
She took out the bag, opened it, and found it full of snacks. She knew these were Chengcheng saved for her. He did this every year when she came back. He loved these snacks and thought his sister would enjoy them too.
