Chapter 27: Proximity Variables

The neon lights of the metropolitan strip cast long, overlapping violet and amber shadows across the damp concrete pavement as the evening settled over the district. Leo walked at a steady, deliberate pace along the edge of the pedestrian boulevard, his hands shoved casually into the pockets of his uniform pants. Beside him, Nicole Vance hurried her steps to match his commanding 6'1" athletic stride. The fierce, arrogant posture she had carried across the science stream corridors just a few hours prior was entirely broken, replaced by a tense, fragile silence as her piercing violet eyes constantly darted toward the busy traffic, ensuring that reality was indeed fully restored.

"Nicole," Leo said smoothly, his deepened masculine voice dropping into a low, quiet rumble that instantly cut through the ambient city noise. "Listen to me very carefully. What just happened inside that barrier... you cannot mention this incident to a single soul. Not to the university faculty, not to your friends, and definitely not to the administration office."

Nicole stopped walking for a brief fraction of a second, her fingers tightly gripping the plastic handles of her supermarket checkout basket. She hesitated, her jaw tightening with a flash of her usual stubborn, tsundere pride as if wanting to demand a full explanation for the steel long sword he had pulled out of thin air. But as she looked up at his sharp model-tier jawline, broad shoulders, and the cold, unyielding authority in his dark obsidian-grey eyes, her resistance completely collapsed. She let out a soft, defeated sigh and nodded her head. "Fine... I won't tell anyone. It’s not like anyone would believe me if I said a giant lion-monster jumped out of a portal anyway."

She took a grounding breath, stepping closer into his personal space as they continued moving down the avenue. Her pale cheeks carried a persistent, deep pink blushing flush from the memory of how his heavy athletic frame had thrown itself completely over her body to shield her from the blast zone. She cleared her throat nervously, her violet eyes staring intently down at her shoes as she tried to muster up her courage. "Hey, Leo... can I ask you something? Do you... do you actually know who I am? Personally?"

Leo raised an eyebrow, completely confused by the random, deeply specific nature of her question. His upgraded Level 4 intelligence core recognized her name from the encrypted character profile card the system had materialized over his bed, but his human memories held absolute zero trace of her face before today. "No," Leo answered honestly, his expression relaxed. "I don't know you at all, except for the fact that we attend the same university block. Why do you ask?"

A brief wave of heavy sadness fractured Nicole's expression. Her eyes dimmed slightly, her shoulders slumping as she realized he truly had no idea who she is. She bit her lower lip out of sudden, frantic frustration. "It's nothing... forget I asked, you giant idiot." She shook her head rapidly, her golden-chestnut asymmetrical bob tossing in the wind as she aggressively turned back toward him. "As soon as we reach the transit line, I'm going to—"

"Leo~!"

A rich, sardonically sweet, and melodic shout violently shattered the quiet street. Before either of them could even register the motion, a silver-white-haired blur bypassed the incoming pedestrians, sprinting straight into Leo's personal space to wrap her slender arms tightly around his neck. Stella possessively buried her face against his broad chest, her voluptuous hourglass figure leaning her entire physical weight directly into his frame. Her long, luxurious white hair cascaded past his shoulders, completely flooding his level-4 senses with the scent of her exotic perfume. "I missed you sooo much! It felt like a literal eternity since the afternoon lectures ended!"

"Stella? What the hell—" Leo grunted in sheer confusion, his dark eyes blinking in surprise as he instinctively raised his large hands to firmly grip her slender bare waist, attempting to forcefully push her back to create some distance.

But Stella was completely locked into her act. Moving with deliberate, highly seductive grace, she resisted his push by rolling her wide hips forward, pressing her heavy, voluptuous chest and bare midriff directly against his torso in a lewd, unbothered way that left absolutely zero boundary space between their bodies.

Standing just two feet away, Nicole’s violet eyes dilated into absolute, wide-eyed shock. A white-hot wave of sudden, comically aggressive jealousy pooled in her chest as she watched the new foreign transfer student openly display such shameless intimacy with the freshman. A girlfriend? He already has a girl clinging to him like a parasite?! her mind screamed frantically. Her face flushed a deep, furious crimson, her tsundere defenses instantly slamming back up to maximum capacity to hide her sudden emotional distress.

"Unbelievable," Nicole snapped annoyingly, her tone dripping with absolute, freezing venom as she aggressively adjusted her shopping basket. "I'm leaving. Enjoy your little sidewalk carnival, freshman. Goodbye!"

"Nicole, wait, it's not—" Leo tried to smoothly reach out to stop her, but she completely ignored his deep masculine voice, spinning sharply on her heel to march aggressively down the transit stairs, her heels clicking loudly against the tile as she vanished into the terminal crowd.

Leo let out a sharp grunt of irritation, his dark eyes narrowing as he turned his full focus back down to the white-haired girl currently trapping his chest. Moving with dominant strength, he firmly pushed Stella away by her shoulders, breaking her hold. "Alright, start talking. What is this ridiculous performance all about, Stella?"

Stella didn't look even remotely bothered by his rough handling. Instead, she offered him a beautiful, intensely knowing, and seductive smile, her predatory emerald-green eyes tracking his physical stacks with an algorithmic precision. She casually twirled a strand of her silver-white hair around her finger. "Don't be so mean, Leo! The faculty seminar coordinator told me that I need to get the advanced macroeconomics curriculum class notes from you, since the university examinations are going to come soon and I'm still adjusting to the sector."

Leo stared down at her, his Level 4 intellect heavily analyzing her story. The faculty timeline made chronological sense, but her hyper-fixated timing remained highly anomalous. "Fine," Leo muttered annoyingly, wanting to clear the public sidewalk before any more anomalies triggered. "I have the duplicate notebooks at my apartment block. I'll drop them off at your dorm tomorrow morning."

"No way~!" Stella giggled instantly, throwing her upper body forward to lean into his bicep once more as she pouted her soft lips. "I want to come along right now! I don't want to wait until tomorrow to study. Take me to your room, Leo."

Leo let out a long, heavy sigh of absolute defeat. "Fine. But keep your hands to yourself while we're walking."

Ten minutes later, the heavy brass deadbolt turned with a sharp click as Leo pushed open the door to his dim, minimalist studio apartment. Stella stepped through the threshold, her emerald-green eyes instantly shifting into a cold, calculating profile mode as she thoroughly scanned the room.

"Wow," Stella teased comically, her rich exotic accent dripping with an amusingly haughty, playful tone as she tossed her leather messenger bag onto his desk chair. "This place is so small and dirty, Leo. Are you running a secret freshman training camp in here, or are you just allergic to standard interior design?"

"It’s a standard student studio, Stella," Leo replied smoothly with a relaxed smirk, walking past her to set his own bag down near the closet. "Sit down on the mattress and be quiet while I locate the chemistry and economics folders."

Stella confidently slid onto the edge of his bed, her long, bare thighs smooth against the rumpled fabric as she crossed her legs. She looked back up at him, her expression shifting into a sweet act. "Can I get a glass of water first? All that walking from the boulevard made me incredibly parched."

"Don't move," Leo murmured. He walked over to the small kitchenette alcove, grabbing a clean glass and filling it from the tap before collecting the heavy paper notes from his shelf. As he walked back into the main bedroom space, his dark obsidian-grey eyes subconsciously tracked across her silhouette. He gritted his teeth slightly, his level-4 physical senses forced to admit that besides being an incredibly annoying, invasive presence, she was absolutely hot. His gaze briefly checked out the heavy, voluptuous swell of her chest straining against the thin white crop top and the smooth, bare curve of her thighs resting against his sheets.

He stepped forward, handing her the glass. "Here's your water. And here are the seminar layouts for Chapter 21 through 24."

"Thank you, Leo~," Stella murmured, taking the glass and bringing it to her lips, her emerald eyes still scanning the lower floorboard. She swallowed the water smoothly and set the empty glass down on the bedside table. Her lips parted, her expression turning serious as she prepared to ask him something. "You know, Leo, I've been meaning to profile your—"

She froze mid-sentence.

Directly near the leg of the dark wooden desk, a large, dark brown metropolitan cockroach suddenly crawled out from beneath the baseboard, roaming aggressively across the polished linoleum floor straight toward the mattress.

"Kyaaa?!"

Stella's emerald eyes dilated in absolute horror as she let out a high-pitched, panicked scream. Forgetting all of her telemetry tracking and alien protocols, she frantically leaped straight off the edge of the mattress to escape the insect. But her heels caught the edge of the rumpled grey sheets, causing her to violently lose her balance.

"Whoa—!" Leo grunted, his level-4 reflexes instinctively kicking in as her voluptuous frame pitched forward.

He surged his arms out to catch her, but the sheer momentum of her falling weight carried both of them straight down onto the heavy mattress. With a dull thud, Stella’s exceptionally soft body slammed flush against his broad athletic frame. The sudden physical entry created a breathless, high-arousal climax; her heavy and soft body pressed tightly into his chest, her bare midriff locked against his stomach, and her long smooth thighs tangled explicitly between his denim jeans.

Leo lay flat on his back, his large hands firmly wrapped around her slender bare waist to hold her steady, his chest heaving rapidly from the sudden impact. Stella’s hands were tightly clutched around his broad shoulders, her long silver-white hair scattering wildly across his face and neck like a soft cloud. The absolute silence of the room flooded back, save for the sound of their synchronized, ragged breathing. Neither of them moved a single muscle. Their faces were mere millimeters apart, their dark obsidian-grey and deep emerald-green eyes locked directly into each other with an intense, breathless shock.
