Chapter 44: Alchemist Guild
Some time later. Alchemist guild.
This was the only Alchemist guild in the Oghara region, and its leader was a Core Formation Realm cultivator who had managed to become an intermediate-rank alchemist after travelling around the continent for hundreds of years.
While it wasn’t impressive in bigger regions since the intermediate rank was only two ranks higher than apprentice alchemists, it was a remarkable feat in a place like Oghara.
There were tens of Foundation Establishment Realm cultivators learning under the old head of the Alchemist Guild and hundreds of weaker cultivators trying to learn the ways of pill making every day.
The territory of the Alchemist Guild was quite large; the space it took up was almost half of a city like Otefe. Several tall buildings were scattered across the place, and numerous people could be seen moving around.
Some were carrying baskets filled with different types of herbs or organs of beasts that could help with pill making; others were sitting in groups and studying notes that looked like records of the pill-making process, while some were on cleaning duty.
The place was peaceful, and everyone was having a normal day. The Alchemist guild hadn’t participated in the fight between Bloody Rose and the forces of Oghara, so they didn’t lose any of their members. They could be considered one of the top forces in Oghara currently, second only to the Bloody Rose sect.
Swoosh!!
Suddenly, a powerful gust of wind swept through the airspace of the alchemist guild as a figure in a white dress appeared in the air and stared down at the buildings.
This sudden wind naturally got the attention of everyone within the guild, and several Foundation Establishment Realm cultivators in green robes flew into the air.
"Who dares!" A loud voice resounded through the air.
The Alchemist Guild was under the protection of the Bloody Rose sect too, so they could be arrogant in Oghara. Whoever this newcomer was, they definitely weren’t here with clear intentions.
But the moment they rose into the sky, all of them froze when their eyes landed on the figure of the woman who was standing in the air not far from them.
Long white hair, an icy expression, crimson eyes that gleamed with indifference.
It was the Invisible Killer!
Immediately, the realisation dawned on them; the expressions on the faces of the cultivators took a complete turn.
"Greetings, Senior Invisible Killer!" All of them shouted, their voices spreading through the entire guild.
The cultivators on the ground heard this and were shocked. Remaining in their positions, they all bowed and shouted as well.
"Greetings, Senior Invisible Killer!"
Hundreds of voices resounded, and the air shook. Feng Shuran kept standing in the air, indifferent to their greetings as her crimson eyes stared at a particular building on the ground.
She was about to ask about the guild master when a figure flew out of the building that Feng Shuran had been staring at. The figure was quite fast; it turned into a streak of yellow light and rushed over to meet Feng Shuran.
In less than two seconds, an old man in a yellow robe and carrying a heavy smell of herbs appeared in front of Feng Shuran. The Foundation Establishment Realm cultivators were behind him as he gave a deep bow.
"Greetings, Senior Invisible Killer. Please forgive me for not coming to welcome you sooner; I was in the process of making a very important pill.
I rushed out the moment I was able to leave it." He explained nervously, not daring to ask why this scary woman had come to his guild yet.
He wasn’t afraid because the Invisible Killer might not believe him; he was indeed speaking the truth. The old man was trying to refine a Heavenly-grade pill when Feng Shuran arrived; he just couldn’t leave it and go out since this pill was his way of breaking through to the next alchemist rank and helping him become an Adept alchemist.
If he succeeded, he could finally go to a bigger region and still have some standing there.
The reason he was afraid was because of how notorious this woman was; what if she didn’t care about his reason and started killing?!
Silence reigned as the old alchemist stayed in his bent position and Feng Shuran kept staring at him.
The disciples at the back were also nervous, and no one dared to move.
After some time, Feng Shuran scoffed and flew past the old man, drifting towards the ground while saying.
"I want you to make a pill for me."
Hearing this, the eyes of the old alchemist flashed with relief and curiosity. Relieved that the Invisible Killer wasn’t going to kill him or destroy his guild, and he was curious about the pill that would require her to come personally instead of sending a disciple.
After all, everyone in Oghara was now aware that the Bloody Rose sect had recruited many disciples and wasn’t a ghost sect anymore.
"Of course, of course." The old man laughed carefully and flew behind Feng Shuran. He waved his hands behind him, signalling the disciples to scatter.
Meanwhile, Feng Shuran and the old man flew towards a huge pavilion with a brown roof.
A rich smell of herbs and pills swept through the place, and Feng Shuran inhaled some as they entered.
The pavilion only had two floors despite being so huge. The ground floor was a massive hall with countless bookshelves and boxes. Some disciples in green robes were standing in the corners of the lower floor and bowed to the two of them the moment they entered the place. A stairway wound from the side and led to the top floor.
"This way, please." The old man gestured towards the stairway and took the lead; Feng Shuran followed behind him.
After some seconds, they arrived at the top floor. While the top wasn’t as huge as the bottom floor, it was still very spacious and a huge bronze cauldron with three handles that were shaped into coiling dragons was placed in the middle of the room.
Beneath the cauldron were formation runes that had been carved into the floor.
No disciples were here, and it had been silent until the old alchemist and Feng Shuran arrived.
"Senior Invisible Killer, what kind of pill do you want me to make for you?" The old man turned to Feng Shuran after they arrived and asked respectfully.
"A meridian cleansing pill; it must be of the Level-5 Earth-grade quality." Feng Shuran said casually while glancing around.
"..."
The old man stared at Feng Shuran with a startled expression; the pill itself wasn’t that difficult. It was the specific required grade that shocked him.
He was an Intermediate Alchemist; making Earth-grade pills wasn’t a problem, but their levels weren’t something he could guarantee. Even on a good day when he was feeling enlightened, the best he could do was a level 4 pill!
He couldn’t guarantee that he could make a meridian cleansing pill at level 5!
Only Adept alchemists could say something like that and do it!
Noticing the long silence that followed her words, Feng Shuran stopped glancing around and looked at the old man.
"What, you can’t?" She asked, her voice growing cold.
The old man trembled; this woman’s tone made him feel very uncomfortable.
"T-that’s not it, I’ll start right away!" He stuttered and rushed out of the room.
Feng Shuran didn’t stop him and went to sit on a pillow in the corner.
Almost a minute later, the old man returned to the room and stood in front of the cauldron.
He waved his hands, and several open boxes appeared on the ground beside him. Each box contained different types of ingredients and small bottles with strange liquid in them.
These were the ingredients for making the meridian cleansing pill!
"I’ll begin now." he looked at Feng Shuran and said. The latter nodded in response.
Returning his focus to the cauldron, the old man took a deep breath and stomped the floor while releasing a wave of qi.
Immediately, the qi was released; the formation on the floor activated and sucked in everything. Afterwards, the area under the cauldron turned red, and the cauldron quickly started to heat up.
Without wasting time, the old man slapped the side of the cauldron, and an opening appeared in front of him. He stretched out two fingers and waved them; a flower with a single petal flew from one of the boxes and entered the cauldron.
The old man didn’t stop there. After sending in that flower, he controlled more herbs with strands of qi and tossed them into the cauldron.
But he didn’t throw in everything right away. He stopped after a while and focused on the ingredients inside the cauldron; beads of sweat rolled down his face.
In the corner, Feng Shuran watched the old man for a while and then closed her eyes. She knew that her stare was making him uncomfortable, and she didn’t want anything to happen to the pill.
While her eyes were closed, Feng Shuran was considering why her master wanted a meridian cleansing pill.
Could it be for Ting Ting? But this pill was only useful to people with blocked meridians, and Ting Ting was already a powerful QI Gathering Realm cultivator.
She just didn’t get it.
