My Taming System Makes Me Overpowered
Chapter 217: Sylvan Hollow
The bleached, barren trail left by the Celestial Executioner eventually folded back into the wild, untamed canopy of the Uncharted Lands.
Rather than pressing straight across the jagged border ridge into the outer provinces, Vince led the party down an overgrown valley shadowed by towering, bioluminescent shadow-pines. The giant trees arched overhead, their glowing violet needles filtering the sunlight into a soft, ethereal lavender twilight.
There’s a localized pocket space roughly two miles ahead, Barnaby reported in his mind, draped comfortably across his shoulders like a feather boa, lazily twisting a lock of her star-spun hair around her finger. An ancient branch of Silver-Veined Sylphs. Isolated, quiet, and completely oblivious to the Upper Realm’s divine squabbles. Perfect for a quiet night... and perhaps a few long-overdue rewards for my hard work.
Vince ignored her last comment, keeping his pace steady.
Behind him, Vetra and Elena walked side by side. Their earlier fear and suspicion had completely transformed into a fierce, almost overwhelming reverence. Every time Vince adjusted his coat or took a deep breath, Vetra subtly shifted her posture to shield his flank, while Elena kept her glowing crystal slate tucked away, her eyes fixed on his back with glossy, unblinking devotion.
"Vince," Elena spoke softly, stepping up beside him with careful deference. "The energy lingering in this valley is ancient. If there is a native settlement nearby, our human and dragon-kin appearances might trigger defensive wards or draw unwanted attention."
"I’ve got it covered," Vince replied smoothly.
He raised his right hand, making a brief, elegant circle with his thumb and forefinger. Under Barnaby’s flawless 5% micro-precision guidance, a thin, iridescent sheen of authority rippled through the air, enveloping the three of them in a weightless, silent breeze.
Fwwip.
The Mirage Matrix settled over their bodies like a seamless second skin.
Vetra blinked, looking down at her arms. Her crimson dragon scales had smoothed out into pale, porcelain skin lined with shimmering, silver leaf-patterns. Her amber eyes had shifted into a soft, luminescent violet, and her subtle dragon horns were entirely cloaked behind long, pointed Sylph ears adorned with delicate silver ear-cuffs.
Elena gasped softly as her spectacles vanished, her scholarly robes shifting into high-collared, silk-woven tunic layers that flared at her waist. Her sleek blonde hair now sparkled with faint, starlight highlights, matching her newly elongated, elegant Sylph ears.
"A multi-layered illusion spell... cast with zero chant time and absolute spatial cohesion," Elena whispered, her cheeks flushing pink with sheer awe. "Vince... your mastery of atmospheric weaving is... breathtaking."
"It’s not just an illusion," Vetra grunted, flexing her slender, silvery-veined fingers in wonder. "It masks my heat aura entirely. Not even a elder hound could smell my dragon-blood through this."
Vince gave them a quiet nod, his own appearance altered into a tall, noble Sylph lord with sharp, ethereal features and deep amethyst eyes. "We’re just travelling merchants passing through to trade rare herbs. Keep it simple."
Ten minutes later, the dense forest parted to reveal Sylvan-Hollow—a tranquil, hidden village built entirely within the living trunks of colossal, glowing elder-pines. Wooden walkways lit by floating spirit-lanterns connected winding treehouses, and the gentle melody of harp strings drifted through the quiet evening air.
The village elders, sensing the noble, refined aura of Vince’s Mirage Matrix, welcomed them without a shred of suspicion. For a modest handful of silver coins, they directed the "distinguished Sylph lord and his attendants" to the village’s finest private lodge—a sprawling, secluded timber house built over a natural hot spring at the edge of the hollow.
The interior of the lodge smelled of dried lavender and cedarwood. Warm spirit-lamps flickered along the polished wooden walls, illuminating a grand living chamber lined with plush fur rugs, low tables stacked with fresh fruit and spiced wine, and a grand sliding door that led straight out to a steaming, open-air stone bath.
The moment the door latched shut, Vetra instantly unbuckled her weapon belt, setting her daggers aside before kneeling gracefully on the rug near Vince’s feet.
"Vince," Vetra said, her violet-dyed eyes looking up at him with intense, uncompromising sincerity. "You’ve carried the weight of the heavens for us today. Please... sit. Let me tend to your boots and untie your coat."
"I can do it myself, Vetra—"
"No," Elena interrupted firmly, stepping forward with a steaming pitcher of heated wine and two crystal goblets. Her usual timid hesitation was completely gone, replaced by an earnest, determined blush. "Vetra is right. You faced a divine Executioner while holding back your power to protect us from the shockwave. Serving you tonight is the least we can do."
Vince sat back against the velvet cushions, letting out a slow, quiet breath as Vetra gently unlaced his leather boots, her slender fingers massaging his tired calves with surprising, delicate warmth. Elena poured the sweet, spiced wine, kneeling right by his side and holding the rim of the goblet to his lips.
Oh, my... look at them, Barnaby giggled into his ear.
The invisible Goddess was floating upside down directly above the low table, her translucent purple silk drapes trailing across Vince’s lap as she rested her chin on her hands, watching the scene with malicious delight.
They’re practically begging to be devoured, Barnaby whispered, her voice dropping into a sultry, dangerous murmur. They think you’re a weary god resting after a cosmic battle. If you don’t take charge tonight, you’ll break their fragile, devoted little hearts.
Vince took a sip of the warm wine, his throat tightening slightly as Elena’s soft shoulder brushed against his arm. Her scent—a sweet mixture of jasmine and warm mana—was intoxicatingly close.
"The hot spring outside is fully heated," Elena whispered, her gaze dropping to Vince’s collarbone as she reached up with a slightly trembling hand to loosen his top buttons. "The village elder mentioned the waters are infused with restorative spirit-herbs... it will soothe your core."
"I’ll go prepare the towels and oil," Vetra said quickly, standing up with a subtle, breathless flush creeping up her neck. She turned toward the sliding glass door leading to the bathhouse. "Vince... join us when you’re ready. Don’t make us wait."
As Vetra stepped through the sliding door into the rising mist of the hot spring, Elena stood up, her fingers lingering on Vince’s shoulder for a long, heavy second before following Vetra into the bath chamber, leaving the wooden door slightly ajar.
Through the crack in the door, the soft splash of warm water echoed into the quiet lodge, accompanied by the silhouette of silk robes dropping smoothly to the cedar floor.
Vince sat alone on the velvet cushion, his heart beating a rhythm that had nothing to do with micro-precision authority.
Beside him, Barnaby floated upright, sitting right on his knee with an insufferably smug, gorgeous grin stretching across her divine face. She leaned in close, her ethereal lips brushing the shell of his ear.
Well, Vince ? Barnaby purred mischievously, extending an intangible hand toward the bathhouse door. Your harem awaits. Are you going to keep your loyal subjects waiting in the steam... or are you going to show them what a real god can do?
