My Taming System Makes Me Overpowered
Chapter 216: precision vs erasure
The white beam of pure erasure erased the space where Vince had been standing a fraction of a millisecond prior.
There was no sound, no shockwave, and no lingering heat. The cliff face behind him simply lost a thirty-foot chunk of solid granite—vanished, leaving behind a perfectly smooth, glassy void.
Vince tumbled across the bleached dirt path, his dark coat frayed and smoking where the grazing fringe of the light had clipped him. The instant his boots hit the ground, he pushed off, twisting through mid-air as three more white blades of condensed decree sheared through the space he had just occupied.
Swirrrrk.
The ambient pressure was suffocating. Every instinct in Vince’s transcendent core screamed at him to flare his mana, to unleash the devastating tidal waves of authority that had obliterated the subterranean spire. But every time he tried to push his output outward, a invisible, firm hand clamped down on his soul, throttling the surge back to a trickle.
"Tch!" Vince spat, ducking under a horizontal sweep of the Executioner’s gauntlet. The air above his hair hummed with absolute death.
The Executioner moved with sickening, mechanical grace. Dragging his heavy celestial chains, he took another step forward, his featureless porcelain mask staring blankly through Vince’s evasive maneuvers. With every flick of the Executioner’s wrist, the local laws of reality bent to enforce the First Sanction, systematically stripping away Vince’s footing, air pressure, and movement space.
Ten paces away, pinned flat against the stone floor by the sheer atmospheric weight, Vetra bit her bottom lip so hard that dark dragon-kin blood trickled down her chin.
Move, damn it... MOVE! she screamed at herself internally, her amber eyes burning with helpless, desperate fury.
Her fingernails dug into the rock until her claws splintered, but her limbs felt like lead cast in iron. She was a brawler—a dragon-kin scout who prided herself on being the vanguard, the one who took the blows so her party could breathe. Yet here she lay, face pressed into the dirt, forced to watch Vince dodge beams of absolute erasure like a cornered beast.
I’m useless, Vetra thought, her chest heaving in ragged, suffocating gasps as tears of frustration welled in her eyes. In the subterranean rifts... now here... I’m just baggage. A mortal dragging down a god.
Beside her, Elena lay collapsed on her side, her crystal slate long forgotten in the dust. Her fire core—the proud, refined spark she had nurtured through years of academic mastery—was shivering, completely snuffed out under the Executioner’s upper-realm aura.
Is this the ceiling? Elena’s mind raced in terrified, agonized circles, her knuckles white as she squeezed her eyes shut. We document his strength, we marvel at his power... but when the real forces of the sky descend, we can’t even stand beside him. We are nothing to them. Absolutely nothing.
"Barnaby!" Vince roared mentally, parrying an incoming erasure needle with a desperate, condensed flick of his fingers that sent a sharp, agonizing recoil straight up his forearm. "Release the restraint! I can’t hold a defensive line against absolute decrees on a leash! Unlock my output!"
Unlock what, Vince ?
Barnaby’s voice echoed in his mind—not panicked, not frantic, but completely calm, floating beside his ear with maddening, serene deadpan.
"My power!" Vince dodged backward, a hair’s breadth away from having his left shoulder unspooled into raw particles. "Give me back my authority!"
Vince, you silly, dramatic man, Barnaby sighed into his thoughts, her ethereal presence leaning against his back as he pivoted. Release what restraint? You haven’t even touched two percent of your output since you awakened the divine authority.
Vince froze for a microsecond, barely sliding under another sweeping white blade that shaved off the tip of his collar.
"...What?"
You heard me, Barnaby sniffed, her golden eyes flashing as she hovered directly behind him, her hands resting lightly on his shoulders to guide his posture. You are swinging your authority like a wooden club, trying to brute-force a lock with a battering ram. This Executioner is wielding absolute law, yes—but law is rigid. It has seams. Five percent of your refined essence is more than enough to dismantle him. You just need to stop panicking and use a scalpel.
"A scalpel..." Vince breathed out, his vision sharpening.
Breathe, Barnaby instructed softly, her voice dropping into that deep, primeval frequency that anchored his soul. Stop trying to push back against his aura. Pull your mana inward. Condense the threads. Let him strike the vacuum, then cut the link.
The Executioner lifted both hands, the white ring of celestial runes above his head expanding into a massive, blinding circle that encompassed the entire cliffside.
"SANCTION ENFORCED," the Executioner’s synthetic voice boomed. "TOTAL ERASURE OF LOCAL SPACE."
A wave of pure white oblivion surged forward, threatening to swallow the path, Vince, and the mountain itself.
Vince didn’t retreat. He didn’t build a defensive shield.
He closed his eyes for a fraction of a second, drawing deep into the warm, pulsing core sitting within his chest. Under Barnaby’s precise guidance, he stopped flaring his aura outward and snapped every stray thread of authority inward, coiling it tightly around his right forearm.
One percent... two percent... three... four... five.
Now, Barnaby whispered into his ear. Form the edge.
Vince snapped his eyes open. His golden-purple iris flared with a light so dense, so absurdly concentrated, that the white aura of the Executioner’s sanction faltered for a single, subtle breath.
Vince reached his right hand out into the empty air and pulled.
SCHWING!
Space itself groaned as a jet-black blade, woven from pure, condensed, micro-precision authority and edged with faint purple lightning, materialized directly into his palm—Executioner’s Edge.
Vince stared at the dark, humming blade in his grip for a split second, a sudden jolt of surprise flashing through his chest. Even throttled, even bound by Barnaby’s strict regulation... his authority could still manifest in its absolute physical form.
A dark, ruthless grin broke across Vince’s face.
"My turn," Vince growled.
He stepped directly into the wall of white erasure.
Instead of being dissolved, Vince swung Executioner’s Edge in an ascending, upward arc. The jet-black blade didn’t collide with the white energy—it sliced cleanly through the logic matrix driving the decree.
CRACK-SHATTER!
The massive, mountain-cleaving wave of pure erasure shattered like brittle glass, dissolving into harmless, sparkling specks of white light that rained down upon the dirt.
Before the Celestial Executioner could even register the logic error in his porcelain mask, Vince closed the distance in a blur of absolute speed, stepping right inside the Executioner’s guard.
With a fluid, brutal horizontal sweep, Vince drove Executioner’s Edge straight through the heavy celestial iron chains binding the Executioner’s chest.
CLANG-BANG!
The "indestructible" Upper Realm chains exploded into fragments, and the Celestial Executioner was sent hurtling backward across the border, his porcelain mask cracking down the center as his absolute aura violently collapsed.
