Chapter 466: Chapter 466: Who Wants to Wait for You Two Wastes

Zoe Sawyer ignored the sound of Evan Keller and the chief discussing things behind her. Instead, she repositioned her ’door’ behind Suspect Number Two, wanting to see who she was contacting.

Soon, the phone’s screen appeared before Zoe Sawyer’s eyes.

After a quick scan, Zoe Sawyer swiftly pieced together the gist of their chat.

Suspect Number Two asked the person on the other end—the one with the black chat bubble—about the situation. After a moment, they replied that people were still posted outside the complex; they would have to find the right time to leave.

Seeing the reply, Suspect Number Two’s expression soured. She then asked how their "youngest sister" was doing.

Upon learning that the youngest sister was getting antsy and wanted to leave, Number Two clicked her tongue in annoyance. She told the other person to ignore her and stick to the original plan: stay hidden and don’t make any rash moves.

The two then discussed their follow-up plan. When they were finished, Suspect Number Two turned off the phone, stuffed it under the altar, and returned the way she came.

After confirming that Suspect Number Two wasn’t making any other moves, Zoe Sawyer shifted her view back to the adjacent apartment and took in the layout of the entire place.

The outside was a normally decorated living room. The door to the adjacent room was shut tight, but Zoe Sawyer knew that inside was an altar, and Suspect Number Two’s phone was hidden beneath it.

Though the other rooms also had their doors closed, their interiors were decorated normally, like any ordinary room.

Zoe Sawyer fixed her ’door’ on Suspect Number Two, ensuring she could watch her at all times. Then, she relaxed her hands and looked at Evan Keller and the chief behind her.

"Sawyer, what’s the situation? Did you see what they were talking about?" the chief asked, looking at Zoe Sawyer with anticipation.

Zoe Sawyer didn’t hesitate and recounted everything she had seen to the chief and the others.

"Don’t tell me... Mrs. Redding isn’t one person, but three? Or maybe it’s just a codename?" the chief said, his expression grim as he voiced his theory.

If that was the case, it was no wonder that just as they started tailing one suspect, before they could make a move, they would hear news of Mrs. Redding striking somewhere else.

At first, they thought they had the wrong person. Coupled with the lack of concrete evidence proving the suspect was Mrs. Redding, they had no choice but to regretfully let it go.

But if Mrs. Redding wasn’t a single person, then all of these problems would make perfect sense.

The chief wasted no time and synchronized the information Zoe Sawyer had gathered with their colleagues on the other end.

Based on this new intelligence, the teams on both sides quickly formulated the next step of their plan.

Since the suspects were so pleased with their own plan, the police would lie in wait. They’d catch them just as they thought they had safely escaped the complex, shattering their confidence.

"Sawyer, I need you to head over there and coordinate with the other team. But don’t worry, I’ve already spoken to the chief at that precinct. He’ll set you up with a private office," the chief said to Zoe Sawyer after hanging up the phone.

"No problem. I know what to do," Zoe Sawyer replied, giving the chief an OK sign.

Zoe Sawyer was well-acquainted with this kind of temporary deployment; she was crystal clear on what to do next.

After the chief gave a few brief instructions, Zoe Sawyer took Evan Keller and the others to provide assistance.

This case, however, wasn’t very complicated.

Of the three suspects, Number One had already made a move and was being tailed by their colleagues. They could make the arrest as soon as the time was right.

As for Number Two and the other one, they were positioning themselves around the complex. All Zoe Sawyer had to do was keep an eye on them. If they made a move, she would tell Evan Keller, who would then lead his team to coordinate with the local officers and round them all up in one fell swoop.

"Sawyer, I don’t have anything for you to help with just yet. For now, just keep watching Number Two. From her conversation with the other one earlier, it seems she’s the leader of the three.

"Keep an eye on her, you might discover something new," the local precinct chief said, walking to the office door, knocking, and then pushing it open to come inside.

"Understood. Don’t worry, Chief, I’ll keep watching her," Zoe Sawyer agreed with a nod.

For the next few hours, Suspect Number Two made no other moves. She seemed just like a normal woman in her fifties, watching TV and scrolling through her phone.

When the time reached just past six in the evening, the once-quiet residential complex began to liven up.

There were people returning from work, others taking a stroll after dinner, and some playing with their children. Delivery drivers came and went, and students from nearby horsed around and chased each other.

Gradually, the sidewalks throughout the complex filled with people.

Suspect Number Two stood by the window, peering through a gap in the curtains at the bustling scene outside. She seemed hesitant, her fingers slowly tightening their grip on the fabric.

"Maybe I should just run for it myself..."

Her voice was so low that if Zoe Sawyer hadn’t been monitoring her every move, she might not have heard it.

Just then, the phone Suspect Number Two had left on the coffee table suddenly rang, startling her out of her thoughts.

She walked over quickly, and her expression changed drastically when she saw the name on the screen.

She quickly declined the call. Then, as fast as she could, Suspect Number Two went to the kitchen and once again scrambled into the adjacent apartment.

She took the other phone from beneath the altar, turned it on, and dialed the number that had just called.

The other side picked up almost as soon as it started ringing.

Before the person on the other end could speak, Suspect Number Two started cursing, "Are you out of your mind?! I told you, don’t call me on that phone! We’re being watched right now! As far as anyone knows, we don’t know each other!

"If those cops find out, we’re all screwed!"

After Number Two finished yelling, there was silence on the other end for a few seconds, followed by the sound of sobbing. "What do I do, Sis? They’re onto me! There are so many police nearby. The second I step outside, they’ll definitely catch me!"

Hearing this, Number Two rubbed her eyes impatiently, her voice full of exhaustion. "I keep telling you to stay calm, stay calm! You get jumpy at the slightest sound and act like you need to flee this instant. That’s what’s going to get you caught!

"Forget it. You just stay put for now. Your second sister and I will figure out a way to divert the police’s attention. Then you find the right opportunity and get out of there. If you really can’t escape, go to the safe house on the roof and hide there for a while."

"Okay, okay, I get it! Sis, you guys hurry up and figure something out for me!" The voice on the other end was filled with surprise and hope. After saying this, she immediately hung up.

’I can’t get in the way of my two sisters coming up with a plan!’

Zoe Sawyer watched all of this with a frown. She wanted to hear Suspect Number Two’s next plan so she could share it with the colleagues on the other team in time to prevent the three suspects from escaping.

But what happened next left Zoe Sawyer somewhat dumbfounded.

"Bah! Who’s going to wait for you two good-for-nothings!"
