Chapter 417: Chapter 417: Do you know that Marcus Thompson died?

Harming a child was something Evan Keller and his team could not tolerate.

"It’s confirmed. I heard it myself, through the door.

"Mr. Gary told the man to hurry up and do it, that he couldn’t wait any longer." Zoe Sawyer repeated what Mr. Gary had said to the short man. The group of people around her frowned, their brows furrowing.

Evan Keller kicked a nearby chair and paced around, furious. "So brazen! He’s definitely a seasoned pro! No, we can’t delay any longer!

"Liam, find everything you can on this man, now! I’m going to haul him in right away!"

As he spoke, Evan Keller snatched the sketch of Mr. Gary from Zoe Sawyer’s hand and slammed it onto Officer Lee’s desk, his voice sharp with urgency.

"Got it!"

Officer Lee immediately got to work, his hands flying across the keyboard without pause. The light from various flashing windows on his screen reflected off his stoic face.

It wasn’t just Evan Keller. As Officer Lee sat there listening to Zoe Sawyer’s account, he had only one thought in his mind: ’I have to find out Mr. Gary’s identity, address, and current location as quickly as possible.’

’Then, get over there immediately and arrest the guy!’

Soon, the information Officer Lee had dug up was laid out in front of Evan Keller and the others.

Mr. Gary, real name Gary Dawson, had been an ordinary worker from a poor family ten years ago.

Ten years ago, Mr. Gary suddenly won the favor of his current wife and married into her family. He then gained his father-in-law’s approval and gradually took over all the businesses under his name.

He then managed them step-by-step with dedication, but Mr. Gary didn’t have a head for business.

During his time in charge, the businesses more or less all suffered losses. The worst-hit one even came close to shutting down for good.

It was his father-in-law who stepped in just in time to stabilize the situation. He then withheld all of Mr. Gary’s dividends for the past few years to cover the financial deficits.

But even so, a fixed sum of money was deposited into Mr. Gary’s account every month for him to squander.

"He’s not too far from here. Sean Hughes, contact the police department over there, explain the situation, and request backup.

"The rest of you, wait for the intel on the other suspect. Coordinate with our colleagues on that end and take them down in one fell swoop!" Evan Keller quickly assigned the tasks.

Evan Keller didn’t pull everyone off their current assignments. The interrogations here were also at a critical stage and couldn’t be neglected.

"Got it!"

Soon, Officer Lee had also dug up the information on the other suspect.

The team responsible for this operation took the freshly compiled file and sped toward the destination.

During the prior investigation, they discovered that Marcus Thompson used to go to a specific area every day.

However, the local thugs were all too familiar with the police officers in that district. They had memorized everyone’s face, and the moment they saw a familiar figure or face from a distance, they would notify the person in charge of the casino.

Eight times out of ten, it was a false alarm.

But on the other two occasions, it gave them just enough time to hide everything and flee the scene.

The culprits were too mobile and agile, and the police department’s presence was too conspicuous. That’s why they had never been able to get a handle on this group or bust them all at once.

So this time, they decided to try a different approach.

Evan Keller’s side dispatched a team that had never been to that area before. Using local surveillance and the new sketch, they finally managed to pin the short guy to the ground.

With their boss captured, and seeing the weapons in the officers’ hands, the thugs who had been thinking of resisting lost all will to fight. They threw their clubs and iron pipes to the ground, put their hands on their heads, and squatted in the corner.

Because it was a surprise raid and a successful arrest, the gamblers and all the gambling paraphernalia were also seized.

The arrest of the short guy went smoothly, and the operation to get Mr. Gary wasn’t slow either.

Since he hadn’t been exposed before, Mr. Gary wasn’t particularly wary during his daily outings.

Sean Hughes and his team successfully apprehended him in a foot massage parlor.

"What are you doing! Can you police just arrest people randomly? I’m going to sue you! I want to see my lawyer!" Mr. Gary yelled as he was pinned to the floor, his face pressed against the cold tiles. He squirmed constantly while shouting for his lawyer.

He was shouting, but inside, he couldn’t help but feel afraid.

’Did I slip up somewhere?’

’No, I’ve been so careful recently. I haven’t gone to any of those places, and the income from my stores is normal. Logically, there’s no reason for the police to be suspicious of me!’

’Could it be that one of my subordinates got caught?’

’No, no one else has contacted me. There’s no way they all got arrested!’

’Then what could be the reason?’

Mr. Gary couldn’t figure it out for the life of him, but he didn’t let any of it show on his face. He kept struggling, as if that could hide his guilty conscience.

Sean Hughes crouched down, patted Mr. Gary’s cheek, and said, "You really don’t know why we arrested you?

"Remember Kai Thorne? We found out everything from him. Why else do you think we were so certain about our target this time?"

Sean Hughes wasn’t lying. Through Kai Thorne, they had used the door to look back in time and learn what Mr. Gary had done.

But to Mr. Gary’s ears, this meant that bastard Kai Thorne had been exposed and ratted him out.

Mr. Gary’s expression turned ugly for a moment, but he quickly composed himself again.

"I’ve been framed, Officer! I didn’t do anything! I have no idea why this Kai Thorne would drag my name into this.

"We were classmates, so we hung out for a while back in the day. We’d get together sometimes when we were free, but other than that, we’ve had no contact at all." Mr. Gary quickly put on an innocent expression and proclaimed his innocence.

Sean Hughes ignored his words, waved his hand, and signaled his team to lift the man up and take him back to the station.

Inside the foot massage parlor, just as an employee who had watched Sean Hughes’s group leave was pulling out her phone to tip off Mr. Gary’s father-in-law, a police officer shot out from some corner, clamped down on her hand, and snatched the phone away.

The employee’s face went pale, and her eyes darted around nervously.

She never thought they would have left someone behind to watch them.

Just then, three more officers walked in from outside. They spread out, monitoring everyone from different angles and eliminating any possibility of someone else trying to send a warning.

「Meanwhile, at the police station」

Mr. Gary was brought into an interrogation room.

On the way there, the initially flustered Mr. Gary had gradually calmed down. Before Sean Hughes could even speak, he took the offensive. "Officer, is it a crime to have a class reunion now?

"Why was I arrested? If you don’t give me a clear explanation, I won’t let this go."

Sean Hughes ignored his blustering and pulled out a photo from the scene of Marcus Thompson’s death.

"Did you know that Marcus Thompson is dead?"
