"So that’s how it is." Melody Thorne propped her chin in her hands, then suddenly thought of something else. "What you said before about spending a few hundred million at the auction to buy it—that was a lie, right?"

How could something that valuable possibly be bought with money?

Jared Quinn: "..."

Harold Chapman knew about this. He looked over at Jared Quinn with a bit of schadenfreude.

"Harold, you just laughed, so you definitely know the truth. You say it!"

Harold Chapman: "..."

He grabbed his military cap and headed outside. "I just remembered I’ve got some things to deal with, so I won’t stay here to keep you company."

"Jared Quinn, how exactly did it end up in your hands?" Melody Thorne narrowed her eyes.

Jared Quinn: "...More than ten years ago, I was out at sea and I rescued a girl. She was the owner of this painting back then, but because I saved her, she gave it to me."

As soon as he finished, he saw the little woman lying beside him already looking stormy.

Melody Thorne got up and walked away.

"Jealous? I don’t even remember what she looks like anymore. It’s just a painting." Jared Quinn hurriedly stood up and pulled her into his arms.

"Of course I’m jealous. Why do you attract so many women? Back then I saved you, then fell for you and have liked you ever since. Let alone that little girl you saved—who knows, maybe she’s still searching for you day and night. She’s probably so bewitched by you she’s lost her soul."

Jared Quinn: "...What kind of stupid thing is that to say?"

"It’s not stupid, it’s the absolute truth, okay?" Melody Thorne’s finger poked at his chest. "And you even dared to hide it from me before."

"I was afraid you’d get jealous," Jared Quinn explained.

"From now on you’re not allowed to attract any more women, you hear me? If you dare to go flirting around, I’ll put a green hat on you."

"Who would dare put a green hat on Jared Quinn?" Jared Quinn punished her by pinching her little face.

"Don’t pinch me."

"Then give me a kiss." Jared Quinn bent down and kissed her small mouth, and the more he kissed, the heavier his breathing became.

"Go to sleep." Melody Thorne’s face flushed bright red. "Jared Quinn, if you do it this many times a day, aren’t you afraid you’ll die from overexertion?"

"If I die on you, I’d still be willing. What’s there to be afraid of?"

Melody Thorne: "Beast."

For two days straight, Selina Sloan had been busy in the studio Melody’s dad ran, and Melody’s dad couldn’t stop praising her.

"She and my daughter are both good girls. You should really treasure her." Melody’s dad patted Elias Hale’s shoulder. "You’re a devoted type too. This girl meeting you is her good fortune."

Elias Hale let out a bitter smile. He wished Selina Sloan meeting him could be considered lucky.

But unfortunately, all the suffering she’d gone through was tied to him.

"Uncle Tang, I’ve troubled you these past few days. I hope you can look after her a bit more."

"Don’t worry. My daughter’s friend—no one here dares bully her. She can just treat this place like her own home."

"Thank you, Uncle Tang."

Elias Hale’s gaze returned to the person below.

Selina Sloan had never imagined Elias Hale would stand there watching her for so long every day. Two days had passed, and the turmoil in her heart had calmed quite a bit.

"Miss Sloan, this is from that café. I heard you’re close with the owner there. Could you help me deliver these? I’m a bit busy right now."

"Sure, I’ll go." Selina Sloan took the paintings.

"Thank you, Selina. I’ll treat you to tea another day."

"Okay."

Selina Sloan grabbed the car keys and headed out. Just as she reached the car, a voice she hated rang out.
