My SSS-Rank Grim Reaper System
Chapter 280: INVINCIBLE
[Silent Threshold — Combat Zone — 4:23 PM]
The angel stepped back three meters.
Alex advanced three meters.
The distance between them didn’t change.
---
The angel materialized constructs.
Not six — sixteen, simultaneous, white?light spears from the Gods’ plane fired from every angle at the same time. The same speed as the previous exchanges. The same force — the force that had pierced the Threshold’s ground two meters deep when it missed at minute one.
Alex crossed the two scythes in front of his body.
F1’s black edge — the edge of the plane between life and death, the only material with natural resistance to Gods’?plane constructs — swept eight in the left arc. F4’s violet edge cut five in the direct front. The last three grazed his torso — one on his left shoulder, two on the ribs that were already fractured.
The impact should have brought down someone with positive HP.
Alex had HP at zero.
The number didn’t change.
F7 sustaining what should have fallen four minutes ago.
Alex advanced two steps.
---
**"It’s waiting for you to collapse,"** said Grim.
**"I know."**
**"Three minutes was the limit in the unstable frenzy."**
**"This one is stable."**
**"You don’t know how long the stable one lasts."**
**"No,"** said Alex. **"But neither does it."**
The angel materialized twenty?four constructs.
This time in cascade — eight first, to force deflection. Eight the next second, for the gap the deflection left. Eight the third, for the already?repositioned body.
Alex didn’t dodge.
He advanced through them.
The crimson scythe in a horizontal arc, sweeping the first group completely before impact. The violet scythe in descending diagonal, cutting the second group in half. The third group arrived — five constructs to the torso, three to the right lateral.
HP: 0. The number didn’t change.
F7 registered the impact, catalogued it, continued.
Alex kept advancing.
---
The angel closed the distance.
Not constructs this time — the angel itself. Wings folded, body at real speed, the direct strike to the chest with the force of the Gods’ plane’s direct authorization concentrated at a single point.
The same force that at minute one had launched Alex thirty horizontal meters and left him embedded in a tree trunk. The same force that had brought Raven to zero HP with a shoulder impact.
Alex received it head?on.
One step back — only one. The Harvester’s feet opening a furrow in the Threshold’s earth as he resisted.
And while the strike was still in contact — while the Gods’ plane force was still pressing against the Harvester’s attire — the crimson scythe entered through the angel’s right side.
The eleventh cut.
In the space where Seraph’s cuts hadn’t completely closed — the ninth cut of the previous sequence, the slowest to regenerate. The crimson scythe found tissue that hadn’t finished sealing and opened it three more centimeters.
The impossible?colored blood fell to the ground. The color that had no name in any human language.
The angel separated one meter.
**"Eleven,"** said Grim.
---
The angel changed the pattern.
Not constructs, not direct strikes — the wings opening to maximum, twelve meters of complete wingspan. The Gods’ plane responding to the entire Silent Threshold as it had responded at minute three — the earth hardening beneath Alex’s feet until it became stone, the trunks of the fallen trees lifting from the ground, the sky over the Threshold changing tone.
Full authorization again. The territory obeying the Gods’ plane.
Alex didn’t move.
**"F7,"** said Alex quietly.
The seventh Fragment responded — not as a static image, as active direction. Cycle 42’s memory, the original Harvester facing the same full authorization on the same Threshold territory. What it had done.
Not dodging the trunks the angel threw.
Cutting the channel while the angel was divided between sustaining the territory and sustaining the angel itself.
---
Alex moved toward the angel.
Not laterally. Directly — toward the center of the authorization, toward the origin.
The trunks arrived.
The first weighed what a twenty?year?old tree weighs — because it was a twenty?year?old tree, torn from the Threshold’s ground with the Gods’ plane’s force. F4 altered Alex’s trajectory two quick steps right before impact — the trunk passed twenty centimeters away and buried its end seven meters beyond.
The second. F7 reading the angel’s wing adjustment 1.4 seconds before it occurred — the angel preparing the throw direction before throwing. F4 responding: three steps to the left lateral.
The trunk passed.
Twelve meters of distance.
The third and fourth simultaneously — the angel closing escape vectors. F7 calculating both trajectories at once, F4 finding the only angle where the two trunks didn’t cover the space between them.
Nine meters.
The angel threw five simultaneous trunks from five different angles — full coverage, no visible free vector.
F7 found it anyway.
The forty?centimeter space between the second and third — the only gap in the coverage, the only angle the angel hadn’t been able to close without sacrificing throw speed.
Alex passed through that space.
Six meters from the angel.
And reached contact range.
The violet scythe to the angel’s right wing — not the body, not the torso where the ten previous cuts were. The wing. The wing’s root, where Jessica had documented that Seraph’s first cut still hadn’t closed, where regeneration was slower because the wing’s structure required more Gods’?plane authorization to maintain than torso tissue.
The twelfth cut.
The wing gave way three centimeters inward — not outward, inward. The structural angle that indicated the connection tissue had given way, not just the surface.
The angel emitted something — not a scream, the Gods’ plane’s equivalent of an involuntary sound. The sound of something that wasn’t in the record of what should occur.
Alex had already separated four meters when the angel responded with its body.
---
**"That was different,"** said Grim.
**"The wing,"** said Alex.
**"The wing’s root. If it gives way enough—"**
**"The authorization channel is interrupted."**
The angel eight meters away. Wings partially folded, the territory authorization released, the trunks that had been in the air falling without direction to the Threshold’s ground.
The right wing at an angle two degrees less than the left.
Structural damage. Small. But the first.
---
The angel materialized forty?eight simultaneous constructs.
Not in formation — in total expansion, filling the Threshold’s space from the ground to four meters high, covering every possible movement vector with white light.
F7 counted them in the second before they arrived. F4 mapping all forty?eight vectors at once.
Alex moved both scythes.
Nineteen cut in circular motion — the body turning, the crimson scythe sweeping the left?forward arc, the violet the right?upper arc. Each black?edge cut destroying the constructs permanently. Fourteen more deflected by F4 altering Alex’s trajectory in the last meter. Fifteen reached the body — the torso, the arms, two to the neck.
HP: 0.
F7 sustaining.
Alex didn’t fall.
---
The angel looked at him.
Forty?eight constructs — the maximum it had materialized in the fight — and the bearer still standing with HP at zero, both scythes in his hands, advancing.
It materialized twenty?four more immediately. Without pause. Without repositioning.
**"The channel has friction,"** said Grim. **"Do you feel it?"**
Alex felt it — not directly, through F7. The fight’s first exchange had materialized six constructs in 1.2 seconds. This forty?eight?construct exchange had taken 4.1 seconds.
It wasn’t speed. It was the channel.
Each construct destroyed by the black edge cost the channel between the angel and the Gods’ plane something. Not much per construct. But each permanent destruction was a permanent extraction — the channel had to process that loss before transmitting the next authorization.
One hundred twenty?seven constructs destroyed since the fight’s start.
One hundred twenty?seven permanent extractions from the channel.
**"How much more before the channel starts failing?"** said Alex.
**"I don’t know with certainty. But each destruction adds. And the angel is materializing more, not less."**
**"Which means I also destroy more."**
**"Yes."**
Alex cut the twenty?four new constructs.
He advanced.
---
The angel stepped back.
Not three meters — five. Wings open but not in full?authorization position. The posture of something recalculating while maintaining distance.
It was the first time in the fight the angel maintained distance without attacking at the same time.
Alex kept advancing.
The angel materialized new constructs — not spears, not the standard form. Nameless forms from the Gods’ plane, each the size of a human torso, dense, designed for mass impact. Thirty. Forty. Arriving all at once like a wall of white light.
Alex cut through them without stopping.
The black edge working. The violet edge working. Both scythes in constant motion, each cut permanent, each destruction adding friction to the angel’s channel, each step from Alex reducing the distance while the angel yielded ground.
The angel stepped back another three meters.
**"It’s giving ground,"** said Grim.
**"I see it."**
**"It’s not falling."**
**"I know."**
**"Are you continuing?"**
Alex looked at the two scythes for a second.
The crimson. The violet. HP at zero and F7 sustaining and the angel twelve meters away yielding meter by meter without falling, materializing constructs Alex destroyed without stopping, the channel saturating with each exchange.
And the fractured rib pressing against something internal with every breath. And the fractured wrist F4 compensated for. And the internal bleeding the body had decided to ignore while F7 was active.
**"I’m continuing,"** said Alex.
---
The thirteenth cut arrived when the angel tried to close the distance again.
The angel had waited — five seconds of maintained distance. Then it accelerated. Not from the air — from the ground, directly, at the speed it had used for the chest strike.
F7 read the wing adjustment 1.3 seconds before.
F4 positioned Alex one step to the left lateral.
F1 waited for the exact moment of contact.
The crimson scythe to the angel’s neck — left lateral, superficial because the angel had turned its head in the last second but not enough. The black edge entering two centimeters.
The thirteenth cut.
The impossible?colored blood in a third zone of the angel’s body — right torso, right wing, left neck.
The angel separated six meters this time. Not one. Not three. Six — double the previous separation. Wings in total recalculating position, the angel’s body stopped two meters above the ground.
The eyes — the ones Alex couldn’t read — processing what they had been processing for twenty minutes.
Thirteen cuts.
The angel had arrived at the Silent Threshold with the complete record of every previous?cycle bearer. It had faced the original Harvester. It had completed the mission twenty?four times in previous cycles.
Thirteen cuts that didn’t close at the normal rate. A wing with structural damage. A channel with accumulated friction. A bearer with HP at zero still advancing.
None of that was in the record.
---
From the ground, Raven counted.
Eleven. Twelve. Thirteen.
The 521 units and 12 golems of F3 in the Threshold’s perimeter, holding the line around the fallen team. F3 responded even though she was at zero HP. It always responded.
Her left hand on her abdomen.
Alex fifteen meters away with two scythes and HP at zero and the angel yielding ground with thirteen cuts on its body.
*Good,* Raven thought. *Good.*
---
The angel kept calculating.
Alex kept advancing.
The distance between them reduced meter by meter — not because the angel fled, but because the angel was stopped and Alex wasn’t.
The black edge of the crimson scythe reflecting the light of the plane between life and death. The violet edge of F4 with the channel active, compensating for what the body couldn’t give alone.
HP: 0. F7 sustaining.
The angel ten meters away. Eight. Six.
Calculating.
Without a response yet.
