Chapter 178: Smashing The Obelisk

  • Next Chapter

The massive violet obelisk towered over the subterranean chamber casting an eerie sickly glow across the damp stone walls. The corrupted crystal pulsed with a heavy suffocating rhythm drawing raw elemental power from the deep earth to feed the unseen horrors waiting inside the inner keep.

Leon stood at the base of the raised dais his heavy boots crunching on the glittering debris scattered from the battle. The air felt thick and electric vibrating with the unstable chaotic energy trapped within the final Syndicate anchor.

Seraphina pulled her heavy broadsword free from the skull of the burning chimera. The silver haired warlord walked slowly toward the dais her violet eyes locked onto the glowing monument.

"This crystal is significantly denser than the one we found at the docks," Seraphina noted resting her weapon on her armored shoulder. "It is saturated with decades of corrupted magic. Hitting it with blunt force might trigger a catastrophic magical feedback loop."

Valeriana stepped cautiously into the cavern holding her glowing tracking compass up to the light. The beautiful spy analyzed the swirling magical frequencies radiating from the stone.

"The warlord is right," Valeriana warned her voice tight with professional anxiety. "The internal matrix of this anchor is highly volatile. If you just smash it indiscriminately the resulting explosion will collapse this entire sector of the catacombs. We will be buried alive."

Leon rested his dark steel blade against his leg crossing his thick arms over his broad chest. "Then tell me exactly where to hit it Valeriana. Find the structural weak point."

The information broker walked closer her dark eyes narrowing as she studied the intricate glowing runes carved into the surface of the violet crystal. She circled the massive obelisk her brilliant mind rapidly calculating the flow of the corrupted earth mana.

A digital interface hummed cheerfully in his vision projecting a bright pink text box hovering right over the spy’s messy dark hair.

[System Directive: The Quartermaster’s Praise]

[Your beautiful spy is risking her life to solve a deadly puzzle. A true warlord ensures his women feel intensely valued during moments of extreme crisis.]

[Objective: Step behind Valeriana. Place your hands on her hips, lean down, and whisper that her brilliant mind is the most dangerous weapon in your entire arsenal.]

[Reward: +20 Mana, 600 Shameless Points.]

Leon smirked his dark eyes flashing with a predatory spark. He never missed an opportunity to aggressively build the romantic tension among his lethal strike team.

He moved silently stepping directly behind the focused spy. He reached out resting his large calloused hands firmly against the soft curves of her leather clad hips.

Valeriana gasped sharply her body violently jolting in surprise. The blistering heat radiating from his towering muscular frame instantly seeped through her clothing sending a massive wave of blinding electricity straight down her spine. She instinctively leaned her back against his solid chest her heart hammering a frantic rhythm.

"Your brilliant mind is the most dangerous weapon in my entire arsenal Valeriana," Leon whispered darkly his magnetic voice vibrating heavily against her sensitive ear.

The beautiful broker completely melted. Her professional composure violently shattered into a chaotic fog of breathless submission. A brilliant furious red flush rapidly painted her pale cheeks. She gripped his thick wrists desperately fighting to maintain her focus on the glowing crystal in front of her.

"The... the weak point is right here," Valeriana stammered weakly pointing a trembling finger at a specific jagged fracture located near the base of the obelisk. "If you strike that exact spot it will sever the grounding runes safely dissipating the stored energy."

[Quest Complete. Stat Rewards Distributed.]

A refreshing surge of magical energy flooded his core expanding his Mana reserves significantly. Leon offered a dark wicked smile slowly releasing her hips to grant her some breathing room.

"Thank you Valeriana," Leon murmured stepping past her to approach the designated target.

He raised his heavy dark weapon taking a deep steadying breath. He activated his Kinetic Overload aggressively routing a massive surge of raw power directly into his heavily corded arms. The muscles in his back bulged dangerously straining against the fabric of his dark tailored shirt.

He wrapped the blunt tip of his steel blade in a dense blinding sphere of pure white kinetic energy.

Leon unleashed a devastating catastrophic horizontal swing driving the heavy weapon directly into the jagged fracture the spy had identified.

The impact generated a deafening concussive boom that violently rattled the teeth of everyone in the cavern.

The massive violet obelisk shrieked in absolute structural agony. The glowing runes carved into its surface violently flickered and died. A spiderweb of deep dark cracks spread rapidly across the corrupted crystal moving upward from the shattered base.

The heavy stone monument crumbled into a million harmless glittering shards collapsing onto the dais like a waterfall of broken glass.

The suffocating magical pressure that had filled the catacombs instantly evaporated. The heavy unnatural stillness was replaced by the simple damp chill of the underground tunnels.

"The final battery is dead," Leon announced lowering his heavy weapon.

Seraphina smiled a fierce victorious grin sheathing her broadsword with a sharp metallic snap. "The connection to the inner keep is completely severed. Silas has lost his gravity amplification. He is just a mortal man again."

"And Lady Morgana is officially locked inside her own fortress without any power," Isolde added her bright green eyes shining with eager military anticipation.

Beatrice and Elara shared a satisfied look knowing their terrifying master had successfully dismantled the most heavily defended magical network in the capital in a single night.

"Julian mentioned a smuggler tunnel that leads directly from these catacombs into the palace cellars," Leon stated turning toward the dark archway located at the far end of the cavern. "We use that path. We bypass the main courtyard and march straight into the throne room."

The strike team filed out of the cavern leaving the burning carcass of the chimera and the shattered remains of the obelisk behind them.

The journey through the smuggler tunnel was long and quiet. The narrow stone passage angled sharply upward leading them back toward the surface. The heavy exhaustion of the night’s brutal battles weighed on their limbs but the adrenaline of the impending final confrontation kept them moving forward.

They finally reached a heavy rusted iron door located at the end of the tunnel.

Leon reached out gripping the heavy metal handle. He channeled a small burst of kinetic energy effortlessly breaking the ancient lock.

He pushed the door open stepping out into the cold morning air.

The strike team emerged directly into the royal gardens situated just outside the towering obsidian doors of the inner keep. The sun was just beginning to rise over the capital casting long golden shadows across the pristine white marble fountains.

The capital was quiet but the massive impenetrable fortress looming before them felt incredibly tense.

Leon rested his heavy blunt steel on his broad shoulder looking up at the towering spires of the imperial palace.

"The games are over," Leon murmured a dark terrifying smile crossing his face. "Let’s finish this"
