My Most Beautiful Fiancée
Chapter 371 370: Truly a Big Shot
"Are you kidding me? Is that any way for a person to talk?" Qiao Canhua said, annoyed.
"Mu Lin is a Divine Doctor! Your sister-in-law's face—wasn't it as black as soot back then? Mu Lin was the one who cured her!"
"Really?! Then he must be truly extraordinary! I remember, Old Qiao, you traveled halfway across Huaxia and couldn't find a single famous doctor who could help!"
The middle-aged man seemed to recall something, and his eyes lit up. He now had a clear look of anticipation for Mu Lin's performance, eager to see what kind of impact this young man could have on the situation.
Qiao Canhua turned to Mu Lin. "Mu Lin, this is Li Hong. Just call him Uncle Li."
Mu Lin nodded earnestly at Li Hong. "Uncle Li, are you here to have me treat your wife's leg condition? After the car accident, she had a bone-setting surgery at the City Third Hospital, correct?"
Li Hong sucked in a cold breath, his demeanor turning cautious. "Old Qiao, did you tell him about the car accident?"
"No, I didn't," Qiao Canhua said.
"Then how does he know!"
Li Hong's eyes widened, and his wife, beside herself with excitement, had a thrilled expression on her face.
"Sir, since you can see all this, can you cure my illness? Please, I'm begging you! Thank you so much!"
Li Hong also said hastily, "That's right, that's right! I spoke too rashly just now and offended you. I hope you can be merciful and let it slide, please?"
Mu Lin said, "There's no need for this, you two. This condition is easy to treat. You are Uncle Qiao's friends, which naturally makes you my elders. I will certainly make sure you're well taken care of."
With that, Mu Lin wrote out a prescription and handed it to Qiao Canhua.
"Uncle Qiao, please have someone go grab these herbs for me."
Qiao Canhua immediately ordered his subordinate to get it done.
Meanwhile, Mu Lin had Madam Li lie down on a mat on the floor, ensuring she was stable, and then began acupuncture.
His divine sense wasn't idle, either. He swept it over every part of Madam Li's body and got a clear understanding of her condition.
Mu Lin's needling seemed to follow no pattern. Soon, Madam Li's body was covered in needles, which made Li Hong watch in terror.
"Old Qiao, if this kid can really cure my wife, I'll owe you a huge favor!"
Qiao Canhua laughed heartily. "Alright, I don't mind you owing me another favor. But Mu Lin is the one curing her, so you can't short him on his reward!"
"Of course, how could I forget something like that?"
In an instant, Mu Lin had already placed dozens of needles.
"Madam, do you feel any discomfort? Please don't hesitate to tell me."
Madam Li slowly said, "I do."
She then described it in detail. After noting everything, Mu Lin replied calmly, "Alright. All of this is normal. You don't need to worry."
Madam Li's expression calmed considerably. She felt that although this young man, Mu Lin, was young, he was very reliable and had the air of a renowned master physician.
While channeling True Qi into Madam Li's body, Mu Lin explained:
"After your car accident, although the bones were set correctly, the soft tissues, including the muscles, never recovered. Not to mention the meridians—they're in a state of complete disarray."
"To make matters worse, toxins have built up in your body, filling the muscles and meridians. That's why you feel pain whenever you stand up and walk."
Listening to Mu Lin, Madam Li felt as if he had experienced her symptoms himself. He had described everything she was going through down to the last detail.
"You're truly a miracle worker! Everything you said is spot on! But when I went to the hospital, not a single doctor could explain it clearly!"
Mu Lin chuckled. "It's not their fault. Everyone has their own specialty, so it's perfectly normal that they wouldn't understand this. I just happen to know a little, that's all. It's nothing to be proud of."
He was so humble it made one want to crawl into a hole and hide.
Mu Lin made a grasping motion with one hand, and the dozens of needles flew into his palm like a flock of eager birds returning to their nest.
Drawn out along with them was a trail of grayish-black smoke.
However, the amount was small, nowhere near the large cloud of smoke that had come from Madam Qiao's body earlier.
Just then, the herbs were brought back.
Mu Lin quickly prepared the medicine and applied it as a poultice on Madam Li's body.
After a long while, Mu Lin removed the poultice and smiled. "Madam, why don't you try getting up and walking around?"
Madam Li was afraid. Truly afraid.
For so many years, she had endured excruciating pain. Even now, the memory was fresh.
But when she stood up, she realized something was different. The stabbing pain was gone.
With the piercing sensation gone, she felt wonderful.
"How do you feel, Madam?" Mu Lin asked with a slight smile.
Madam Li exclaimed, "There's no pain! I'm walking just fine, not a bit of pain! I feel like I could run and jump!"
Mu Lin stopped her with a wry smile. "Madam, you should probably avoid any strenuous exercise! We don't want you to fall again."
Madam Li thought about it and obediently sat back down.
"It's been four years. This pain has haunted me for four long years, refusing to leave. And now, after four years, I'm finally back to normal!"
Madam Li was overcome with emotion.
Li Hong also let out a long breath, wiping away tears in his excitement. A true example of a tough man with a soft heart.
The two of them had suffered so much. To have such an outcome now was truly wonderful.
"Old Li, congratulations! A great weight has been lifted from your heart!"
During their conversation, Mu Lin was stunned to discover that this Li Hong was actually the mayor of Lanyang City.
A big shot, indeed. Qiao Zhenhua hadn't been wrong at all.
Mu Lin's help had been a joyous surprise, and for a moment, they treated him as if he were their own son.
"Mu Lin, just call me Uncle Li!"
Li Hong said politely. He was determined to build a good relationship with Mu Lin. A good relationship could lead to future benefits, while a bad one would only lead to more severe problems down the line.
Qiao Canhua smiled. "Stay for dinner at my place tonight. I just sent a servant out to buy groceries. Tonight, we don't go home until we're drunk. How does that sound?"
Li Hong replied, "You think I'm scared of you? If you tried to send me away without feeding me, our brotherhood would be over!"
Although Li Hong was the mayor, he had a lively personality, with no trace of bureaucratic airs.
"Oh, right!" Madam Qiao remembered. "Old Li, there's something I have to tell you!"
Madam Qiao then briefly explained the situation at the City Third Hospital to Old Li, which immediately set him off.
"This is outrageous! How could things be like this?" Li Hong's voice trembled for a moment.
"Someone who hasn't gone through it could never know how painful it is."
"Rest assured, I will take action immediately!"
「At Lanyang City Third Hospital.」
Wei Dingguo applied some medicinal ointment and swallowed a small qi-restoring pill. A warm, comfortable feeling spread through his body.
'These injuries all over my body are agonizing,' he thought.
'It's all because of Mu Lin. It's all his fault! I have to find a chance to get him killed!'
Wei Dingguo mulled over many schemes to deal with Mu Lin. The more he thought, the happier he became, and he lost track of time.
Suddenly, his phone rang.
"Wei Dingguo, how did you manage to offend Mayor Li?"
'What's going on?' Wei Dingguo thought. "I didn't! What kind of joke is this? He's the mayor! If he ever showed up, I'd be sucking up to him the whole time..."
"He already knows you drugged He Zongshan's mother. Right now, he's preparing to have you removed from your post. And that's the light version. For all we know, he's already planning to have you arrested."
"Your business is too obvious, too easy to attract attention. You'd better resign quickly! If this implicates Elder Deng, we'll all be in deep trouble."
Wei Dingguo trembled with fear. He wanted to offer a few words of explanation, but the line had already gone dead.
Th-th-this...
Wei Dingguo was absolutely terrified. If things went south, how could he possibly fix this mess?
How did Mayor Li find out? Did He Zongshan tell him? Or was it that person with He Zongshan, the one named Mu Lin?
Regardless of who it was, Wei Dingguo knew he couldn't escape. He was sure to spend the next few years in prison. God only knew what would become of him.
It wasn't just him. Even the doctors on good terms with him and the trusted subordinates he personally mentored would probably face utter ruin.
But that was a whole other problem. And no one would pay any attention to a guy who had offended a powerful figure and was just barely surviving.
He was already in this state; there was truly nothing he could do.
Sigh...
