When Qiao Canhua heard there was still some remaining, he grew nervous. "It won't affect the baby, will it?"

Mu Lin chuckled. "Uncle Qiao, look at you. The baby's only been around for a few days and you're already playing favorites. You've got to change that attitude! What, so your wife isn't important anymore?"

Qiao Canhua opened his mouth to speak, but realized he was right...

"Right, right, you're absolutely right to call me out, Mu Lin!" Qiao Canhua hastily planted a kiss on his wife's cheek. "Both of you are important."

The gesture left Madam Qiao flustered. She could only wipe the mark from her cheek with a helpless air.

"Look at you, acting like this at your age. So improper!" Madam Qiao chided, clearly displeased.

Qiao Canhua laughed heartily. "Darling, why don't you calm down and let Mu Lin finish clearing out the curse power? We can discuss my impropriety later, how about that?"

Madam Qiao pursed her lips and shot Qiao Canhua a look before doing as Mu Lin instructed, closing her eyes and clearing her mind.

Mu Lin raised his hand and inserted several needles into Madam Qiao's head. In just a few moments, wisps of black qi began to emanate from her.

Mu Lin made a grasping motion above Madam Qiao's head, gathering the black qi together.

The sensation was just...

There were no words for it. All in all, it was an incredibly strange feeling.

Qiao Canhua never imagined his wife's body harbored so much black qi.

Mu Lin produced a small porcelain vial and stuffed the black qi inside.

"This black qi has value as evidence," Mu Lin said calmly. "We can hand it over to the Military Suppression Bureau later. Some matters can't just be brushed aside."

It dawned on Qiao Canhua. He pointed at the vial and asked, "That's the thing that was harming my wife?"

"Exactly," Mu Lin replied. "The person responsible is likely here in Lanyang. Now that I've thwarted his scheme, he certainly won't let the matter rest. He'll definitely try to stir up more trouble."

"I'll find a chance to catch him and take care of him."

Qiao Canhua was deeply moved. "Mu Lin, you're a good man."

Mu Lin smiled faintly. "Oh, come on. There's no need to be so formal."

But Qiao Canhua reached into his pocket, pulled out a bank card, and slapped it on the table. "There are a few hundred million in here. Take it! And since you're here, I'll arrange a senior executive position for you at my company."

'Qiao Canhua still hasn't forgotten about that,' Mu Lin thought. 'He's really trying everything to get me to accept that executive position.'

'What a joke.'

"No, no, really," Mu Lin said. "I don't need the money. I already have more than I can spend. Uncle Qiao, you're just putting me in a tough spot."

"Take it!" Qiao Canhua said with a serious expression. "This is a gift from an elder. How can you refuse? Are you kidding me?"

Mu Lin gave a wry smile. "Alright."

So he had no choice but to accept it.

"But I'll have to pass on the executive position. I don't know the first thing about running a company. Wouldn't that be irresponsible to the company?"

Qiao Canhua thought for a moment. "That makes sense. Well then, I'll give you some shares instead. The kind that pay out dividends at the end of the year."

Mu Lin felt helpless. Refusing again would surely upset Qiao Canhua. He sighed. "In that case, I accept. Uncle Qiao, you're being far too generous. I don't know what to say."

"As a member of the younger generation, you should just obediently accept the goodwill of your elders. Don't ask questions, and don't overthink it!"

Qiao Canhua put on the air of a seasoned elder, which left Mu Lin feeling rather disgruntled.

Madam Qiao added, "Mu Lin, you don't have to feel burdened, as if you're taking advantage of our family. That's not the case at all. You saved my life and my child's life. That's not something money can measure."

Qiao Canhua chimed in, "And what about the bond between us, uncle and nephew? Can you put a price on that?"

Mu Lin was completely put on the spot by Qiao Canhua's words. It felt as if he'd be scorned if he refused again.

Left with no choice, he accepted everything.

"Madam Qiao, I'll write you a prescription. If you take it daily, your Spiritual Power, which was eroded by the curse, will slowly recover."

Madam Qiao accepted the prescription and gravely instructed a servant to have it filled.

A weight was lifted from Qiao Canhua's heart. He then turned to Mu Lin with concern.

"Mu Lin, what brings you from Anhua to Lanyang? Lanyang is six of one and half a dozen of the other compared to Anhua; it's not necessarily any better here, you know."

Mu Lin felt that Qiao Canhua was a trustworthy person, so he explained the situation to him.

Qiao Canhua's eyes lit up. "Xu Jishan is a major senior figure! His reputation in the business world is quite good."

Mu Lin sneered inwardly. 'The Xu Family was using drugs to control people's minds, a plot I exposed on the spot. And he's got a good reputation?'

'If that's considered good, then I don't know what is.'

Qiao Canhua continued, "Xu Jishan is a pivotal figure in Di Yang. How could he just disappear so mysteriously?"

"I know some capable people myself. I'll have them look into it. We might get a breakthrough. I'll let you know as soon as we find anything."

Mu Lin wasn't familiar with Lanyang, so this had been a real headache for him. He was incredibly grateful for Qiao Canhua's help.

After they spoke for a while, Qiao Canhua slapped his forehead. "Oh, right! Mu Lin, I have a good friend whose wife has trouble with her legs. Could you possibly take a look at her?"

"Of course, no problem," Mu Lin said. "I'm not busy anyway. What's wrong with healing the sick and saving lives?"

Without even waiting for Mu Lin to finish, Qiao Canhua scurried outside to make a phone call.

Seeing her husband's excitement, Madam Qiao gave Mu Lin a knowing smile. "Mu Lin, the person you're about to meet is a major figure in Lanyang City!"

They chatted about some local gossip, and Mu Lin casually asked, "Ma'am, do you happen to know the director of the City Third Hospital?"

"Wei Dingguo? Yes, our family has been under his care before."

A "not-so-fast" smile played on Mu Lin's lips as he briefly recounted how Wei Dingguo had poisoned He Zongshan's mother.

Madam Qiao was so shocked her jaw dropped. "How is that possible? That's just atrocious! A hospital director, of all people, poisoning a patient? How could anyone ever trust him again?"

If the public found out, they'd be furious.

Then they'd start suspecting every doctor of being a scoundrel. What would happen to the medical profession then?

Madam Qiao was furious. "This is simply too much! Isn't anyone going to do something about him?"

"Mu Lin, what are you going to do about him?"

Madam Qiao figured Mu Lin wouldn't have brought this up without a reason. Since he mentioned it, he must already have a plan.

"The man's credibility is shot," Mu Lin said. "He certainly can't be allowed to remain director; we have to find a way to get him fired. Unfortunately, I don't know any influential figures here in Lanyang, so I don't have a way to get Wei Dingguo dismissed."

Madam Qiao chuckled. "And what about your Uncle Qiao? Would you say he's influential?"

Mu Lin thought for a moment. "Very. Uncle Qiao is quite famous in Anhua."

"Well, there you have it," Madam Qiao said. "Leave it to your Uncle Qiao to make some inquiries. I'm sure you'll see results very quickly."

'On second thought, there's no need to get worked up over it,' Mu Lin mused. 'It's a small matter, really.'

'He's already been exposed, so it's not like Wei Dingguo can do much for the time being.'

Qiao Canhua returned from his phone call. Seeing Mu Lin and his wife chatting so cheerfully, he asked, "What are you two talking about that's so amusing?"

"Husband, did you know?" Madam Qiao said gravely. "The director of the City Third Hospital actually poisoned a patient! It's absolutely outrageous!"

Qiao Canhua was stunned. "Wei Dingguo? How could he do something like that? The man's an animal!"

Madam Qiao nodded grimly. "Exactly. We can't just stand by and do nothing. Heaven only knows how many other people he's plotting to harm."

"Don't worry," Qiao Canhua said. "I'll have a word with Old Li. He definitely won't let this slide. In fact, he's coming over in a little while. Talk about perfect timing."

A short while later, the butler led a middle-aged man and a woman in a wheelchair into the main hall.

The woman was extremely haggard. She was so pale she had no color in her face at all, looking as fragile as a sheet of rice paper.

"Old Qiao, where's the Divine Doctor?" The middle-aged man grabbed Qiao Canhua's arm as soon as he saw him, his voice urgent.

Qiao Canhua sighed. "Look at you, getting all worked up. Calm down, panicking won't help."

"This young man here is the Divine Doctor I was telling you about!"

The middle-aged man looked Mu Lin up and down, thinking he still looked wet behind the ears and probably wasn't very skilled.

"Old Qiao, you're not pulling my leg, are you? He can cure my wife's legs? Let's hope he doesn't end up having to amputate them!"
