My Most Beautiful Fiancée

Chapter 197 196: Cannot Afford to Compensate

When Lin Jin heard Mu Lin's voice, he turned and walked over excitedly.

Mu Lin had a much bolder air about him than when they had last parted. Lin Jin guessed it was because he had grown accustomed to the city environment.

Mu Lin always said he came from a small mountain village, so Lin Jin guessed there was definitely a connection.

"Mu Xiaoyou, you're finally here!" Lin Jin walked forward excitedly and pulled him into a hug.

'Is this really necessary?' Mu Lin thought.

But he couldn't resist Lin Jin's enthusiasm. He just let him hold on until Lin Jin was satisfied and finally let go.

"Don't get all excited just yet! How is Elder Lin?" Mu Lin asked, his brow furrowing slightly.

Lin Jin said, "The situation isn't good, which is why I asked you to come at once."

"Didn't you say you wouldn't call any other doctors?"

Lin Jin said, "The servants let the news slip, and then all these famous doctors showed up on their own..."

'Jeez,' Mu Lin thought. 'These so-called famous doctors are ridiculous.'

'Showing up uninvited... Do they have any professional ethics at all?'

"Alright, I get it," Mu Lin nodded. "Let me take a look."

Mu Lin walked to the front of the hospital bed. Lin Tian's unconscious state hadn't changed.

"What are Elder Lin's symptoms? You just said he was vomiting blood and unconscious. I can't imagine what he went through with just that."

Lin Jin said, "I don't know either. A servant found him, and now I don't even know which servant it was."

Even if he investigated thoroughly, no servant would dare admit to being the one who found the unconscious Elder Lin.

That would be far too dangerous. If they ran into a narrow-minded master, they'd probably be "disappeared" for good.

"No matter," Mu Lin said as he immediately moved forward to take his pulse.

It was all the same. In the end, all of a patient's vital signs would manifest in the body.

Lin Shishi came over to see the so-called Divine Doctor her father had found, and her expression changed again and again.

'He's clearly just a student who hasn't even graduated yet. Is Dad insane, asking someone like this to save Grandmaster Lin?'

"Dad, how could you entrust Grandmaster Lin's treatment to someone like him!"

If Lin Jin hadn't always been so filial, Lin Shishi would have almost believed her father wanted to have Grandmaster Lin killed.

Lin Jin waved his hand dismissively. "Stay out of this. I know what I'm doing!"

Lin Shishi was so anxious she wanted to cry. 'What could you possibly know?!'

When Doctor Liao saw Mu Lin, his eyes lit up. He pushed aside the crowd of doctors in front of him and walked over.

"Divine Doctor Mu! So you're the secret weapon President Lin was talking about!"

Doctor Liao grabbed Mu Lin's hand and shook it back and forth. "Ever since we parted ways in Anhua, I've been thinking about starting my studies all over again. The shock you gave me was just too great!"

"Just now, I was thinking that if none of us could cure him, the only other possibility would be to find you. And just like that, you arrived!"

Lin Shishi was dumbfounded. 'Is Mu Lin really that amazing?'

Mu Lin gently patted Doctor Liao's arm. "Alright, time is of the essence. I need to check on Elder Lin's condition!"

He already knew that none of the servants would dare admit to being the first to find the old master collapsed.

That meant there was no way of knowing what had actually happened to the old master.

He could only find out for himself.

Mu Lin placed his fingers on the pulse and carefully took a reading.

Doctor Liao leaned in earnestly and asked, "Divine Doctor Mu, what is the situation now?"

Mu Lin said, "It's nothing. Everyone, please disperse for now!"

Lin Jin called out, "Shishi, take the doctors to the living room for some tea!"

Doctor Liao said, "Divine Doctor Mu, can I stay? I want to follow you and learn more!"

Mu Lin smiled. "Of course. Any other doctors who want to stay are also welcome."

However, the other doctors had no interest in watching some brat's performance, so they left quickly.

Now, aside from the Li Family, only Mu Lin and Doctor Liao remained.

Mu Lin said, "Uncle Lin, has Grandmaster Lin offended anyone?"

Lin Jin gave a bitter smile. "When you've been navigating the Jianghu for so long, how could you not make enemies?"

Mu Lin said, "Then who have you seen recently? Anyone with whom you have a grudge?"

Lin Jin just shook his head. "I'm not sure!"

After Lin Tian returned, he had been resting the entire time. The few times he went out for business or gatherings were only with people from his most familiar circle.

"So what exactly is wrong with my dad?"

Mu Lin said gravely, "Elder Lin isn't sick. He's been poisoned. And it's an extremely insidious blood poison. It starts by corroding the blood, and eventually, it can even dissolve the bones. It's a truly evil substance."

When Lin Jin heard this, his face turned ashen. He had never heard of or seen such a poison. How could it have been used on his father?

'Seeing my father like this, I'm afraid he won't last more than a few days...'

'It's a good thing I sent Lin Shishi away. If she found out about this, I don't know what would happen.'

'She and her grandfather are very close.'

"Is there still a cure?" Lin Jin asked nervously.

Mu Lin said, "There is a way. And at present, it hasn't reached the most severe stage yet."

"I believe Doctor Liao has already performed some preliminary treatment," Mu Lin said as he continued his diagnosis. "Elder Lin's condition is relatively stable."

Lin Jin looked at Doctor Liao and said excitedly, "Thank you, Doctor Liao!"

Doctor Liao waved his hand. "It's nothing. I just did what I could. It's not like I was able to cure him, right? The only one who can truly make a difference is Divine Doctor Mu!"

Mu Lin didn't have time for pleasantries with Doctor Liao. He said, "Elder Liao, I need you to help me with something!"

'This Mu Lin has some nerve, actually daring to order me around,' the corner of Elder Liao's mouth twitched.

'But... I find myself surprisingly willing.'

'As long as I can learn a thing or two from Mu Lin, what's wrong with being his assistant?'

Doctor Liao helped Lin Tian sit up while Mu Lin took out a pack of silver needles. After opening it, he flicked his wrist, and with a casual air, plunged the needles straight into points on Lin Tian's head, shoulders, and wrists.

Doctor Liao's expression flickered. 'It's that move again. Mu Lin can so easily place the needles exactly where he wants them.'

If any medical students saw Mu Lin's technique, they would probably go crazy with envy.

'How can Mu Lin perform a technique they practiced for years—only to be criticized by their teachers—so effortlessly and gracefully?'

It wasn't just them; even Doctor Liao was filled with envy, jealousy, and admiration, wondering if he could somehow wheedle the technique out of him.

The room was silent. Lin Jin had sent all the servants out and was personally acting as Mu Lin's assistant.

Mu Lin's procedure was extremely complex and full of strange variations. His hands fluttered like a pair of white doves.

To an onlooker, it was a pleasing sight, but only he himself knew how exhausting it was.

He was even more furious. After all, this blood poison was no ordinary toxin. It was incomparably sinister. If treated improperly, it would only cause the patient more suffering.

'The poisoner must have a deep-seated, blood-soaked hatred to do something like this.'

'But if they just wanted Lin Tian dead, wouldn't it be easier to just kill him directly? Why use a blood poison?'

'Even if it was to torture Lin Tian, there are other ways.'

'There are even several non-lethal methods that inflict more pain than this blood poison.'

An hour passed. Mu Lin's clothes were soaked through with sweat.

Meanwhile, the color of Lin Tian's face grew increasingly grim.

Lin Jin was extremely worried but didn't dare make a sound, allowing Mu Lin to continue his work.

Suddenly, Mu Lin placed a palm on Lin Tian's back and pushed forcefully. A spray of black blood shot from Lin Tian's mouth, splattering on the floor.

And the color returned to Lin Tian's face; he no longer looked so dreadful.

If Lin Shishi were to come see her grandfather now, she probably wouldn't even be able to tell that he was sick.

"Ugh..." Lin Tian let out a groan, and his eyes slowly opened.

"Dad!" Lin Jin cried out. "You're finally awake! You scared me to death!"

Lin Jin hurriedly made a phone call to get Lin Shishi. "Shishi, Grandmaster Lin is awake! Come quick!"

Lin Shishi paid no more mind to the other doctors and rushed straight to the room.

"Grandmaster Lin!" The moment Lin Shishi entered, she hugged Lin Tian, tears of joy streaming down her face.

"Why is my good girl always crying? Stop now, you'll ruin your makeup."

Lin Shishi sobbed a couple more times, trying her best to hold back her tears.

Mu Lin stepped aside. He wanted to avoid notice because the condition of the silver needles was not good.

They had all turned black, and small bumps had appeared on the needles, clear signs of severe corrosion.

This proved that the poison was truly terrifying.

"Dad, do you remember how you collapsed?" Lin Jin asked.

Lin Tian thought for a moment. "I don't remember that. I didn't feel anything was wrong, either. I just felt a sudden pain all over my body, and then I knew nothing."

He looked around and his gaze fell upon Doctor Liao. "Doctor Liao, you must be the one who saved me!"

'Why is this renowned Divine Doctor of Beijing here?' Lin Tian was a little confused.
