Chapter 100: Chapter 101: Joining Forces Against the Enemy, Sword Drawing Technique Shows Its Might
Su Chen looked at Fang Rou and the others in the group. Seeing that they were safe and sound, he felt relieved. Only then did he answer Tao Dingfang’s question. "Your uncle is fine. But if you want to see him, you must let all these people go."
"How do I know you’ll hand over my uncle after I release them?" Tao Dingfang scoffed.
"You just have to trust me."
Hearing this, the already infuriated Tao Dingfang glared at Su Chen, the killing intent in his fierce eyes completely undisguised. A moment later, he let out a cold snort. "Fine, I can let them go. But if you dare deceive me, I won’t spare a single one of them!"
He decided not to continue this stalemate with Su Chen. It was merely taking a step back and releasing some prisoners; as long as he could save Tao Wenxuan, letting a few people go meant nothing. Besides, since he dared to let them leave, he naturally had the capability to capture them again. Only when that time came, nothing but blood would wash away his current anger.
Receiving the order, the soldiers released Fang Rou’s group, allowing them to walk toward Su Chen. Fang Rou arrived in front of Su Chen, gazing at him with a complex expression. Su Chen nodded at her, then lowered his voice to give instructions to the group.
"Alright, Su Chen. Please be careful," Fang Rou said, nodding heavily after listening.
Before leaving, Yan Que cupped his fists in gratitude. "Thank you, young man." His tone carried a hint of sighing emotion. He had never expected that Su Chen, whom he had only met once before, would now become his savior.
Su Chen nodded and urged everyone to rendezvous with Hong Ming and the others as soon as possible.
Once they disappeared from Tao Dingfang’s sight, Tao Dingfang spoke up. "Now you can hand over my uncle, right?"
This time, Su Chen did not hesitate. He pointed toward a certain direction in the woods and said, "He’s right over there."
Hearing this, Tao Dingfang immediately ordered his men to search. In no time, they brought back the unconscious Tao Wenxuan.
"What did you do to my uncle?" Tao Dingfang demanded upon seeing his state.
"Nothing. I just let him get a good sleep," Su Chen said with a shrug.
Waving his hand to have his men take Tao Wenxuan away, Tao Dingfang looked straight at Su Chen and suddenly smiled. "Do you think they can get away?" Before his voice even faded, the group of soldiers behind him suddenly erupted with an overwhelming aura. They let out a thunderous shout that surged like tidal waves, flaunting their might.
Su Chen stepped forward and gave a light chuckle. "That depends on whether you have the skill to step over my dead body!"
"What audacity!" Tao Dingfang blurted out. He couldn’t help but praise Su Chen’s fierce loyalty and valor. It was just a pity that the young man was destined to die here today. "Since that’s the case, I’ll grant you an intact corpse!"
With that said, Tao Dingfang swung his arms, wielding two heavy war hammers as easily as if they were extensions of his own limbs. He charged forward fiercely, arriving right in front of Su Chen. The heavy hammers crashed down with the oppressive weight of a mountain.
Su Chen reacted swiftly and dodged. Wearing heavy armor and wielding twin hammers, Tao Dingfang’s speed had decreased slightly, but his offensive power had skyrocketed. Each strike of the hammer possessed devastating destructive force. Even Su Chen didn’t dare to take that berserk strength head-on.
"Again!" Seeing his first strike miss, Tao Dingfang’s eyes narrowed. His speed abruptly increased as he exploded forward once more. The twin hammers whirled in a frenzy, his attacks shifting unpredictably as a sky full of hammer shadows engulfed Su Chen from all directions.
Su Chen hadn’t expected the hammer-wielding Tao Dingfang to be so formidable. With no room left to retreat, he twisted sideways and drew the steel saber from his waist. Instantly, a flash of cold light erupted. In that fleeting moment, it was as if overlapping layers of saber light bobbed up and down.
"Excellent saber technique!" Tao Dingfang paused in surprise before his expression turned serious. The heavy hammers in his hands whipped up rolling shockwaves of sound.
CLANG! RINGGG! The moment the steel saber clashed with the heavy hammers, an ear-piercing sonic wave rippled outward. Su Chen felt a bullish force transmit from the blade to his arms. The sweeping power shredded the sleeves on both his arms, which trembled uncontrollably along with the steel saber. Armed with the heavy hammers, Tao Dingfang was like a humanoid beast, his entire body brimming with explosive power.
Tao Dingfang was equally shocked by Su Chen’s strength. That hammer strike had used seventy percent of his power, yet it only caused Su Chen’s arms to tremble. Judging by his appearance, the young man hadn’t even been injured. Realizing that Su Chen was no easy opponent, Tao Dingfang ordered his men, "I’ll deal with this guy! The rest of you, go and capture the others!"
After speaking, he deliberately cast a sidelong glance at Su Chen. Initially, he had planned to quickly finish Su Chen off before going after the others. But looking at it now, eliminating this boy would likely take some time. Therefore, he decided to handle Su Chen himself while his subordinates gave chase. Either way, no one was escaping!
Su Chen remained silent, but a cold sneer curved the corners of his lips. It was a good plan, but did he give them permission to execute it?
THUD! THUD! THUD! Just as Tao Dingfang turned his focus back to Su Chen, he suddenly heard a series of strange sounds. He whipped his head around, and his expression instantly darkened.
"You poisoned them!" Rage surged in Tao Dingfang’s eyes.
Su Chen smiled faintly. "Heh, all is fair in war!"
"You’re courting death!"
He bellowed furiously, his twin hammers whirling rapidly as his offensive instantly grew fiercer. The killing intent in his eyes and the fury in his heart were fully manifested in his strikes. His berserk power poured out like a torrential flood, every move and stance overflowing with murderous intent.
CRACK! Under Tao Dingfang’s stormy assault, Su Chen’s steel saber did not last long before snapping in half. Seeing this, Tao Dingfang sneered and dashed forward once more.
"Who’s there?"
But before he could land a hit on Su Chen, a ghostly figure lunged out from the woods, arriving in the blink of an eye.
BAM! Caught off guard, Tao Dingfang hoisted his twin hammers high to block Sun Yun’s thunderous saber strike. However, his body was shoved backward uncontrollably, dragging two long trails through the dirt.
"Sun Yun!"
Upon recognizing Sun Yun, Tao Dingfang was slightly startled. His gaze swept back and forth between Su Chen and Sun Yun before realization dawned on him. "So you two really were colluding."
"Those were your own words, Lord Tao!" Sun Yun laughed.
"But what does it matter even if you join forces? It merely saves me some trouble," Tao Dingfang sneered. His arms trembled slightly to disperse the residual force of the clash before he launched a ferocious counterattack.
Su Chen and Sun Yun exchanged a glance. The two of them pounced on Tao Dingfang from the left and right. Facing a pincer attack, Tao Dingfang retaliated with both hands, not losing the slightest bit of ground.
BANG! A hammer crashed down. Tao Dingfang missed his target, and Su Chen used the opportunity to knock the heavy hammer from his grasp.
Taking advantage of Tao Dingfang’s momentary distraction, Sun Yun seized the opening to attack. However, Tao Dingfang quickly noticed him and met his charge head-on with a hammer strike.
WHOOSH! THUD! THUD! THUD! In that lightning-fast moment, Sun Yun failed to dodge. He raised his saber horizontally, bracing it with both hands to meet Tao Dingfang’s attack head-on. In an instant, his long saber shattered explosively. Sun Yun was violently knocked backward. The tremendous impact nearly sent him flying through the air. He forced himself to stabilize his body, but a trail of fresh blood trickled from the corner of his mouth.
However, Tao Dingfang currently had no time to worry about Sun Yun, because Su Chen’s offensive was already following close behind.
"DIE!!!"
Even with only one hammer left, Tao Dingfang was exceptionally ferocious. The muscles in his arm bulged, compact and solid like braided steel. He swung the heavy hammer in an upward arc, tracing a deadly, elegant curve. The air itself seemed to compress beneath the blow, letting out a sharp hissing noise.
Facing such a terrifying strike, Su Chen remained calm and composed. Suddenly, a gleam flashed through his eyes. A slit tore open in his wide sleeve, and a dazzling blade light swept out in a fleeting arc, painting a brilliant galaxy as it howled through the air.
SLASH! The blade fell. Armor breached!
