Chapter 393: Chapter 332: Undead Magic 2

Hate Shield, analysis progress—5%.

These were all Magic spells the Witch Demon had just cast.

The fierce battle in the arena finally subsided.

"Come here."

Zelir beckoned to Marcus, who was leaning on his Shield and gasping for breath, and to the pale-faced Hill.

Both of them had been afflicted by the negative corrosive effect of the Witch Demon’s Magic Power.

They needed to be cleansed with a Dispel Skill immediately, or the weakened state would persist for quite some time.

Two orbs of pure, gentle white light bloomed at the tip of the Night Peace Staff before touching each of them in turn.

The warm, sacred, purifying energy seeped into their bodies like a fresh spring.

Marcus and Hill could both clearly feel the chilling discomfort that had taken root inside them rapidly dissolving under the Magic’s effect.

"Dammit..."

Gray spat a mouthful of bloody saliva onto the ground. "Only today do I realize how disgusting Undead Mages are."

He glanced at Zelir as if a thought had struck him. "By the way... do you know Undead Magic?"

"If you want to see it, I can learn it," Zelir said with a slight nod.

This wasn’t a lie; he had indeed already learned it.

"If I die one day, you’re not going to blow up my corpse, are you?"

"You’ll already be dead, why would you care about your corpse? Can’t you learn to be more like Maki and just let it go?"

"Then maybe you shouldn’t learn it..." Gray shuddered. ’I’d like to leave my body intact.’

Zelir just chuckled softly and shook his head.

What impressed Zelir the most during this battle was Hill.

That Witch Demon’s strength was, at the very least, that of a powerful Junior Mage, maybe even reaching the level of a Middle Level Mage.

Yet Hill’s all-out attack had still managed to pierce its barrier and severely injure it, even while he was suffering from the corrosive status effect.

Zelir asked himself honestly, ’My Magic Barrier, anchored by a Trigger Skill, probably isn’t much stronger than the Witch Demon’s Hate Shield.’

And mine lacks the ability to inflict a negative status effect.

So...

Zelir gently shook his head.

’It seems even a Trigger Skill won’t let me rest on my laurels. I still need to work hard to improve my strength.’

After dispelling the negative status effects for Marcus and Hill, the team began to clean up the battlefield.

The equipment quality of this batch of Decayed was quite good. Basically all of it could be collected and sold for a good price.

Zelir went straight to the Witch Demon.

Its head had been blown off, but the rest of the loot was still there.

First was the tattered purple long robe it wore, which looked ancient.

Although it was full of holes and stains from the erosion of time,

after having broadened his horizons with Barrett, Zelir could tell that the Magic Robe’s fabric was woven from a special type of silk imbued with Magic Power.

It also had some gold-thread Magic Runes on it.

If he stripped it off and sold it, the price wouldn’t be low. A buyer could take it back, patch it up, refurbish it, and then resell it.

Anything related to Magic wasn’t cheap.

Next, what interested Zelir the most was the Magic Wand clutched tightly in the Witch Demon’s hand.

The Magic Staff was cold to the touch and a little over half a meter long. In terms of material, it was definitely not as hard as the Star Meteorite Wood of his Night Peace Staff.

Its shaft was formed by three thick leg bones twisted together like a braid, and its surface was carved with runes full of evil and profane meaning.

At the very top of the Magic Staff was a huge, ink-black Crystal Ball.

Undead Magic. Zelir had indeed read about it in some of the books in the library.

It was an ancient school of Magic known for being bizarre, cunning, and malevolent.

Furthermore, Undead Magic couldn’t be cast casually. Besides Magic Power, it required another, most crucial, casting medium—Death Qi.

Every time an Undead Magic spell was cast, whether it was summoning a skeleton or casting a Curse, a corresponding amount of Death Qi had to be consumed as the cost.

Otherwise, the Magic spell simply wouldn’t form.

And Death Qi was a mixture of Essence of Life and the echoes of a soul, which dissipated from a body the moment life departed.

Moreover, the more intense a creature’s fear, pain, and resentment before death,

the richer the Death Qi it would produce upon dying.

This unique mechanism for acquiring the casting medium almost guaranteed that most Undead Mages were evil-doers.

In order to obtain greater power, many of them would choose to cruelly torture their victims.

Then, they would collect a large amount of Death Qi as life faded, like vultures.

Of course, the books also mentioned that not all Undead Mages were like this.

There were some scholar-type Mages who sought to explore the ultimate mysteries of life and death. They tended to be more rule-abiding.

They would only collect the faint Death Qi from creatures that died naturally or fell in battle.

But such Mages were, after all, a minority.

And because the purity of the Death Qi they could collect was low and the quantity limited, these rule-abiding Undead Mages were not very powerful.

As a result, they were considered insignificant within the entire circle of Undead Mages.

In the history of the Candia Continent, human Undead Mages had existed.

The Mage’s Guild didn’t just indiscriminately hunt them down and exterminate them.

However, every Undead Mage was placed under extremely strict surveillance.

This included where they went each day, what they were doing recently, whether they had done anything evil, how much Death Qi they had collected, and so on.

If they were discovered to have acted against humans or shown any abnormal behavior, they were to be eliminated immediately.

Furthermore, they were absolutely forbidden from leaving the Guild’s sight; otherwise, they would also be immediately eliminated.

The Mage’s Guild itself would send people to carry it out.

Under such long-term, high-pressure control, almost no Mages were willing to study Undead Magic anymore.

Not only were they easily viewed with prejudice, but their personal freedom was also restricted. They might as well just honestly study other types of Magic.

Over time, the school of Undead Magic gradually declined.

Zelir carefully examined the black Crystal Ball at the top of the Bone Staff.

There was indeed something like a gas wandering back and forth inside, blooming into layers of thin veils. ’That must be the Death Qi,’ he thought.

However, the Death Qi this Witch Demon had stored looked very thin, which would also weaken the strength of the Undead Magic it cast.

It made sense. It was all alone in the ruins, with no one around except for the Decayed.

Of course, there was nowhere for it to collect Death Qi.

Zelir grasped the Bone Magic Wand and tentatively channeled a small amount of Magic Power into it, attempting to activate it.

"BUZZ..."

The moment his Magic Power flowed into the staff, a mental shock full of negative emotions immediately assaulted his mind.

It was as if thousands of vengeful souls were cursing him, trying to drag him down into the endless abyss with them!

Zelir immediately cut off the flow of Magic Power, his brows knitting slightly.

’It seems this Bone Magic Wand is cursed...’

If an ordinary person used it frequently, their willpower would inevitably be eroded, and they would be corrupted toward evil.

However, Zelir had no plans to become an Undead Mage anyway. He might as well sell this Magic Wand.

It was a finished Magic Wand, after all. It had to be worth something.

Meanwhile, Marcus and Valles were working together to dismantle the Decaying Knight’s Armor.

After the last leather buckle connecting the joints was cut, a complete set of black full Plate Armor CLATTERED onto the sand.

The Plate Armor was exquisitely crafted.

From the enclosed helmet that protected the head, to the sturdy Chest Armor covering the front and back, and the layered Arm Armor and Leg Armor that resembled dragon scales,

each component was made of thick steel. The design of the joints was also exceptionally clever, balancing both defense and flexibility.

However, because the Decaying Knight was too tall, even Marcus couldn’t wear it.

Moreover, the Plate Armor also seemed to be under some kind of Curse.

Just from trying on the Arm Armor, Marcus could feel a whisper in his mind, trying to bewitch his thoughts.

"Damn it... I can’t wear this directly!" Marcus immediately took off the Arm Armor.

"Some immoral bastard must have cursed this equipment. Can we even sell it?" Gray asked.
