My Kaiju Parasite Revived Me, But a Yandere Bought My Streaming Rights
Chapter 255: What Heard Us
The shape on the far coast kept walking.
Each step crossed more distance than the last. The broken towers stayed the same size behind it. The Array could find no scale for the body.
Soma ran the distance field again.
```
RANGE:
-4.2 SECONDS
```
"It arrives before it leaves," he said.
Aren’s black call box crackled.
"Close the view."
"Working on it."
"Work faster."
Continuity Bloc opened an emergency center vote across every surviving public screen.
```
OUTSIDE CONTACT CONFIRMED.
TEMPORARY CIVIC CENTER REQUIRED.
NOMINEE:
CALEB MERCER.
```
Restoration rejected the motion with Caleb’s feeder kill behind its party seal.
```
THE SHIELD BELONGS TO NO THRONE.
```
Caleb read both.
"One wants my name. The other wants my face."
Rina stayed on the Array controls.
"Keep both out of the answer."
Sovereign Safety ordered a strike on the observatory ruins.
Tali blocked the route.
"You hit the Array blind, the fold takes the pressure spike as a response."
"Unverified assessment," the strike officer said.
"Then fire through your own office first. Same evidence quality."
The strike stayed pending.
Under East Market, the fourteen feeders crossed the final utility wall.
They entered the outer ring of the East Array in a single file.
No people remained in their path. Rina’s evacuation held.
The feeders passed live cables, old migration receivers, and three cabinets full of ceramic breaks.
They reached the downward bowl.
All fourteen folded their front limbs and lowered their heads.
They knelt toward the coast.
Caleb looked at Aren’s call box.
"They worship it?"
"Do compass needles worship north?"
The feeders opened narrow seams along their backs.
Receiver spines rose from the seams and angled toward the fold.
Soma’s instruments jumped.
"They are extending the Array."
Aren pulled another paper from Mara’s box.
It showed the same feeder posture beneath a different listening site.
"Maintenance bodies carried migration signals through damaged infrastructure. The old cities bred or built them to find folds before larger kaiju crossed."
"Built?" Sefa asked.
"The record changes words depending on who funded the page."
Aren put two maps side by side.
One showed local coastlines.
The other showed migration paths continuing across blank edges and reappearing under different stars.
"Kaiju history is older than this civic order," Aren said. "Some migrations crossed folds. Some bodies fled. Some hunted. Some were sent. The chairs came later, after cities learned an outside answer could follow a shared identity back through the opening."
The approaching shape reached the waterline.
Black water moved around its legs and climbed upward.
The Array asked through every witness node.
```
WHICH OF YOU IS THE CITY?
```
Caleb stepped in front of the evidence-room camera.
Every faction prepared to use him.
"Caleb Mercer," he said. "One person. No city claim."
He stepped aside.
Rina took the channel.
"Local nodes answer local facts. Different order. Different timing. Nobody speaks for all."
June answered from Aldgate.
"June. Bookshop cellar open. Twenty-three sleeping upstairs. Wanted direction is Green Lane left clear."
Lena answered from Ward Nine.
"Lena Daro. Pip beside me. Gas below fourth landing. Wanted direction is blue stairs held."
Anika answered from Ninth Harbor.
"Anika Velez. Twelve chairs. Roll call stays distributed."
Iseul answered from Mercy.
"Iseul Park. Oxygen stair closed. Laleh Omondi named."
Halden’s widow gave her own name before her husband’s.
Jessa named the North Rail gate.
Mev named the west ladder.
Hiro named Mina Cho’s crooked haircut, then admitted his shoulder hurt and Iseul told him to sit down.
Kestrel sent Cairo rain upward again.
The foundation witness drew separate circles in concrete.
Sefa faced east and spoke last.
"Sefa Amadi. I was divided by people who called storage rescue. I stand under my own name. Wanted direction is every claim stays with the person answering."
The Array pressure rose.
Identity agreement stayed low.
The shape on the coast stopped.
Its head turned from one witness node to another as if each voice came from a different direction.
The Array played June’s voice through Ward Nine.
"My cellar door is open."
Then it played Lena’s voice through Aldgate.
"Pip beside me."
It put Anika’s roll call under Iseul’s hospital board and used Caleb’s voice to say Sefa’s name.
The copies sounded exact.
The harms belonged to the wrong places.
Sefa stepped toward the evidence-room speaker.
"It is trying to build a person out of our sentences."
Rina cut every copied voice.
"Local nodes verify place before name. If the room is wrong, the voice is wrong."
June held her broken window in frame.
Lena showed the blue stairs.
Anika showed twelve separate chairs.
Iseul struck the metal rail beside the oxygen stair.
The Array could copy sound. It lacked the wet floor, cracked glass, bad shoulder, missing shoe, and people interrupting each other.
The borrowed city came apart under ordinary details.
The fold image split into fragments.
Aldgate saw the white beach.
Ward Nine saw rust-colored grass.
Ninth Harbor saw the leaning towers.
No node held the whole coast.
Aren spoke quickly.
"That is working. Keep the image divided."
The Woman entered through the East Array text layer.
```
THIS IS WHY THE CHAIR EXISTS.
ONE ADDRESS.
ONE BOUNDED ANSWER.
ONE CITY THAT RETURNS IN ITS OWN SHAPE.
```
Caleb looked at the kneeling feeders.
"The first seat had release bolts."
The Woman paused.
"People removed them because fear lasts longer than emergencies," he said. "You kept building after the filter became a throne."
```
I KEPT CITIES ALIVE.
```
"You kept them owned."
The distinction reached the public feed before any party could cut it.
Marn Pace repeated both sentences under her own name.
Sant entered them into the emergency vote record.
The vote shifted in visible pieces.
Three Restoration delegates withdrew Caleb’s nomination after Marn attached her contingency signature and Kingsline injury record to the party’s symbol campaign.
Pike submitted a hostile witness statement from Aldgate.
He still called June obstructive. He also stated that her unlicensed request saved him under the tax arch while certified routing ordered everyone to remain in place.
Two Sovereign Safety delegates changed to abstain because their own marshal had put the contradiction in writing.
Halden’s widow sent one sentence to the chamber.
"A corrected record stays corrected when fear gets louder."
Anika sent the roll call with twelve separate refusals.
The center motion lost its automatic majority.
The shape on the coast lifted one arm.
The Array tried to join the fragmented image around that gesture.
Soma split timing again.
Rina cut each visual node after its local witness named what they saw.
White beach gone.
Rust grass gone.
Leaning towers gone.
The last fragment stayed on Caleb’s screen.
The raised arm pointed through the fold.
At him.
Then past him.
Toward Elara’s field-order signal and Kim’s hidden chair half.
The copper chip in Caleb’s palm burned.
Kim’s text reached one phone before the Array went dark.
```
IT FOUND THE CIRCUIT.
I AM CUTTING MY HALF.
DO NOT LET ELARA COMPLETE HERS.
```
The fold closed.
The fourteen feeders lowered their receiver spines.
They remained kneeling inside the East Array.
Soma checked the old instruments.
The return path had collapsed, but one coordinate remained burned into the receiver glass. It pointed nowhere on local maps. The negative time field kept counting upward toward zero.
Aren opened a thin SSS travel file from Mara’s box.
Three pre-charter teams had crossed controlled folds after the Coastal Shelter disaster.
One returned in the correct year.
One returned seventy-two years early and found an empty construction site where its home city would later stand.
The third sent a final weather report from a coast with uphill tides.
No body came back.
"The view was a route," Aren said. "Closing it stops traffic. The learned address remains."
Caleb looked at the burned coordinate.
"So it knows where we are."
"It knows where the Array was when you refused it. That may be enough."
The city stayed separate.
The emergency center vote failed by eleven votes.
The chamber posted the count without a victory banner.
Sant had insisted on that.
Nico Barr and Oss Vale’s names stayed attached to the route evidence. Laleh Omondi stayed attached to the bell. Nobody’s death became a campaign seal for six whole minutes, which was longer than the city had managed all week.
For six seconds, nobody spoke.
Then Aren opened a final page from Mara’s box.
It held a drawing of two linked handprints around an empty chair.
One hand was marked `LEASH`.
The other was marked `HOLLOW CENTER`.
The note beneath them was thirty years old.
```
IF BOTH HANDS CLOSE, THE OUTSIDE ANSWER GETS A SEAT.
```
