The East Array put Caleb and Elara on one line.

```
PAIRED CLAIM CANDIDATE.
SECOND CIRCUIT HALF DETECTED.
LOCATION:
UNRESOLVED.
```

Kim answered from the tea-counter phone.

```
THAT IS ME.
SORRY.
BUSY BUILDING A KNIFE FOR IT.
```

Rina read the message once.

"She gets one minute before we cut her line."

Soma started the timer.

Under Ward Nine, the fourteen feeders began chewing east.

They ignored the south seal and opened the old utility wall instead. Brick vanished between their jaws. The tunnel beyond led toward the dead observatory district.

Tali traced their path.

"They pass under three occupied blocks, Mercy’s overflow shelter, and the East Market tram supports."

The first support sensor turned red.

People felt the street move before alarms reached them.

East Market carried eight hundred civilians between food lines, temporary beds, and a closed tram platform used as a clinic.

The certified route system offered one answer.

```
EVACUATE EAST MARKET TO CENTRAL CIVIC SHELTER.
```

Central Civic Shelter sat above the Array.

Rina killed the route.

"We move them outward. Local exits. Different timing."

Continuity pushed the central route back onto public screens.

"Single shelter offers medical capacity and controlled protection," its spokesperson said.

"Single shelter sits on the thing calling us one body," Rina answered.

She opened the district grid.

"No repeated script. Tell me what hurts where you are. Tell me where your own feet can go."

East Market answered badly at first.

People shouted `help` into the same channel.

The Array pressure rose.

Soma split the feed into local boxes.

Produce hall.

Tram clinic.

West loading lane.

Rooftop tents.

Cold-storage basement.

Rina took the produce hall.

"Name."

"Hana Bex. Stall fourteen. Roof dust falling."

"Direction?"

"Canal door. It opens outward."

"Say it as yours."

"Hana Bex, produce hall. Harm is roof dust and moving support. Wanted direction is canal door outward. No custody."

The eleven mark under East Market shifted one hand toward the canal door.

Hana reached it first.

The door moved two inches and caught on a bent lower hinge. Forty people pressed between vegetable stalls behind her. Dust came down in soft sheets whenever the feeders struck another utility wall below.

"Door is stuck," she said.

Rina kept her voice out of the answer.

"What do you need?"

Hana crouched, looked at the hinge, and shoved a broken scale under the door.

"Lift the bottom corner. Slow. I pull the pin."

She made the correction under her own name.

The eleven-piece put one stone finger beneath the door.

Hana pulled the pin with both hands. The hinge came free, the door swung outward, and canal rain hit the market floor.

People left by stall number because Hana knew who could move together.

Rina moved to the tram clinic.

Iseul Park was already there by relay.

"Thirty-one beds. Six need lift help. East stair blocked by old rail car. Wanted direction is west platform ramp and lift help for six. No custody."

The same eleven-piece used its other hand to brace the rail car.

It chose both requests because neither asked for the whole district.

Hiro appeared on the tram camera beside the first bed.

His shoulder brace sat crooked under a rain jacket. Mina Cho’s page was sealed against his chest in a plastic food bag.

Tali saw him.

"Why are you there?"

"Safe-house copy truck was delivering blankets."

"You are supposed to be recovering."

"I recovered to the market."

"That sentence means nothing."

Hiro grabbed the rear handle of a bed and pushed it toward the west ramp.

His injured shoulder gave on the second turn.

The bed rolled sideways.

The foundation witness caught the frame with one stone sleeve before it struck the platform edge.

Hiro went down on one knee, face white.

Iseul took the handle from him.

"You carry Mina’s page. I carry the bed."

"I can still push."

"Great. Push yourself down the ramp."

He obeyed because the patient on the bed was laughing at him.

Soma gave the rooftop tents to Aldgate.

June asked a woman named Pei what she could see.

"Laundry bridge to Block Six. Wind is bad."

"Your call."

"Pei Marr, rooftop tents. Harm is support movement. Wanted direction is laundry bridge to Block Six, five people at a time. No custody."

June wrote the request on a torn book page and held it in her window.

The first five reached the middle when the wind shifted.

The bridge struck the wall hard enough to split one handrail.

Pei dropped to her knees and held the safety rope around her waist.

"Change it. Three at a time. One on the rope, two crawling."

June crossed out the five on her page.

"Your bridge. Your count."

Pei repeated the request with three.

The next group crossed on hands and knees. A woman lost her shoe to the alley and laughed once when it missed everyone below.

The Array received paper six seconds after voice.

Different timing.

Different medium.

Same city pressure underneath.

The receiver climbed one level.

Aren watched Mara’s old instrument notes.

"Your split is protecting identity. It is still feeding amplitude."

"Plain language," Caleb said.

"It lacks a city identity. It still hears how badly the city wants rescue."

"Great. We taught the dark how to count panic."

Rina ignored both of them and took the west loading lane.

Anika Velez answered from Ninth Harbor.

"I can carry their roll call without carrying their route."

Twelve truck workers named themselves one at a time. Each chose the west freight ramp. Anika repeated names in a different order, and the Array lost a single sequence.

Halden’s widow carried the cold-storage basement.

Her voice shook and kept going.

"Seven below. Compressor leak. Wanted direction is north service ladder, one person up before the next starts."

The foundation witness at the safe house tapped seven separate marks into concrete.

Kestrel appeared through a Cairo delay with an old SSS routing key.

"I can add thirty-one seconds of bad weather to the Array clock."

Soma looked at the key.

"What does bad weather mean?"

"It means the receiver thinks Cairo is raining upward. Use it or enjoy your clean signal."

Soma used it.

The East Array stuttered.

East Market kept moving.

Hana Bex opened the canal door.

The produce hall emptied in stall groups instead of one crowd.

The tram clinic moved six non-walkers on the eleven-piece’s palm while the other beds rolled down the west ramp.

Five people crossed the laundry bridge at a time.

The cold-storage basement counted seven separate climbs.

No single voice owned the rescue.

Rina stayed on every channel until the final bed cleared the tram platform.

Tali checked the count.

"Eight hundred twelve out. Three injuries. No missing heat."

Caleb looked at Rina.

"You moved a district."

"They moved themselves."

"You kept them from becoming a crowd."

She took that without turning it into modesty.

"Yes."

Kim’s minute expired.

Soma reached for the cut.

Her final message arrived.

```
KNIFE READY.
PROBLEM:
IT CUTS ELARA TOO.
DO IT LATER.
```

Rina severed Kim’s line.

The fourteen feeders passed beneath East Market after the people cleared. They moved in one line toward the Array, carrying white route paint on their heads.

The old receiver bowl rotated under the observatory.

Its downward face filled with light from somewhere else.

The image showed a coast.

Black water climbed a white beach and ran uphill into grass the color of rust. A broken city stood along the horizon with its towers leaning away from the sea. The sky held one wide band of green-white cloud from edge to edge.

No current map matched the land.

Aren stopped breathing into the call.

Soma checked the receiver coordinates.

"Distance field is blank. Time field is negative."

Caleb stared at the broken city.

"People?"

Something moved between the leaning towers.

Then another shape moved farther down the coast.

Then a third.

All three turned toward the Array view.

The first shape started walking closer.
