Chapter 96: Making an Offer
Chapter 96: Chapter 96: Making an Offer
The tiger was scared witless. It scrambled on all fours, fleeing in terror.
"WOOF!" "WOOF WOOF WOOF!"
The little black puppy pumped its short legs, transforming into a black blur as it gave chase.
"Erhei, come back! Stop chasing it!" Ye Xing quickly commanded in a stern voice, calling little Erhei back. ’It wouldn’t do for little Erhei to actually kill the tiger,’ he thought. ’Not with so many people watching. The tiger’s been scared off and the little girl’s been saved. That’s good enough.’
"WOOF WOOF!"
Hearing Ye Xing’s call, little Erhei immediately turned and scampered back. Its little tail wagged furiously as it pawed at Ye Xing’s pant leg, clearly looking for praise.
"Haha, settle down. I know you’re amazing! I’ll give you a treat when we get back." Ye Xing laughed, patting Erhei’s small head in encouragement.
The atmosphere in the Half-Mountain Pavilion was now strangely quiet. All eyes were fixed in one direction, their gazes intense, a mixture of envy and shock, all focused on little Erhei. The puppy had become a little hero, the center of everyone’s attention.
A tiny black puppy, not even tall enough to reach one’s knee, had bravely charged forward and, with its high-pitched, puppy-like yaps, scared a massive, ferocious tiger into a desperate retreat. The visual was just too shocking. If they hadn’t seen it with their own eyes, they never would have believed it.
Beyond the shock, they had all fallen completely in love with the little black dog. Many of them became its fans on the spot. As for its owner, Ye Xing, their envy knew no bounds.
Just then, Xie Lan hurried over, clutching her daughter, Little Xin.
"Ye Xing, thank you! I can’t thank you enough! If your puppy hadn’t driven off that tiger, Little Xin... she would have..."
Having nearly lost her daughter, Xie Lan’s eyes were still wet with tears. She looked at Ye Xing with immense gratitude—a gratitude that came from the very bottom of her heart.
"Heh, you don’t have to thank me so profusely. With Erhei, it was just a coincidence. I guess that tiger was either particularly timid or something else was going on," Ye Xing said with a slight smile.
"No matter what, I have to thank you. Thank you, and thank your little dog for saving my daughter’s life," Xie Lan said, bowing deeply in gratitude.
At that moment, many of the tourists around the Half-Mountain Pavilion swarmed over.
"Hey, young man, what breed is that puppy of yours? He’s so brave, he even scared off a tiger!"
"Seriously, he’s a Divine Dog! I’ve really seen it all today!"
"He’s just too fierce! A Tibetan Mastiff would be a total joke next to him!"
"Haha, a puppy scaring off a tiger? Do you guys really believe that?" Ye Xing laughed. "A tiny puppy and a full-grown tiger. Just compare their sizes. Do you think that’s possible? That tiger ran off either because it had some mental issues, or there was some other reason."
"Huh, now that you mention it, you’re right. The size difference is just ridiculous. A single swipe from that tiger’s paw could have crushed the little black dog!"
"I agree, something must have been wrong with that tiger. The body of a tiger, but the heart of a kitten. Otherwise, there’s no way it would’ve been scared off by a little puppy. Still, your dog is incredibly brave, daring to charge a tiger many times its size."
"Haha, that’s not bravery, that’s just him being a silly little blockhead. You don’t know my Erhei—he was born with a screw loose. He just doesn’t know the meaning of fear. He charges at anything he sees. I was sweating bullets for him just now," Ye Xing said.
"Well, either way, I love this little dog. He’s brave, and he’s so adorable and cute. Hey, handsome, would you be willing to sell your puppy to me?" a young woman in the crowd asked.
The other tourists’ eyes lit up at the suggestion. The idea took hold, and they started calling out bids with great enthusiasm, driving the price higher and higher. However, they were mostly ordinary people, so the highest offer only reached a little over ten thousand.
Forget ten thousand—even for a million, or ten million, Ye Xing would never sell little Erhei for any price.
"Heh, I’m sorry, everyone. I’ve grown attached to this little guy. I can’t bear to part with him, so there’s no way I could sell him," Ye Xing said, sounding slightly apologetic.
"That makes sense. Who would be willing to sell such a great dog!"
"The puppy seems so intelligent. If he were mine, I wouldn’t sell him either."
"But I really, really want to buy him!"
The crowd was a little disappointed, but they all understood.
"I’ll offer fifty thousand. Sell him to me!"
Just then, a slightly shrill voice called out. It was Xie Yuan, who had walked over to make the bid.
"Hmph!" Xie Lan snorted, shooting her older brother, Xie Yuan, a look of disgust before turning and walking away with Little Xin in her arms. His performance earlier had been utterly spineless; during the crisis, he had looked ready to flee at any moment.
"Alan, you can’t blame me for that! It’s not like I didn’t want to save Little Xin!" Xie Yuan looked embarrassed for a moment, then turned to Ye Xing. "So, how about it? Fifty thousand. Sell the puppy to me!" His tone was faintly smug and arrogant. As he saw it, fifty thousand for a little black dog was an astronomical price. Even if this puppy was a little special, fifty thousand was still an incredibly high offer.
"I’ve already said that I’m not selling little Erhei," Ye Xing stated calmly.
"It’s just a puppy. You won’t sell for fifty thousand?" Xie Yuan frowned. "Do me a favor and sell him to me. My sister and I are on bad terms right now, and I was planning to buy this puppy for her..."
"The fact that you and your sister are on bad terms is your problem. Why should that compel me to sell you little Erhei?" Unwilling to waste any more time on him, Ye Xing simply picked up little Erhei and started heading down the mountain.
"Sixty thousand!"
Seeing Ye Xing remained unmoved, Xie Yuan grew desperate. Gritting his teeth, he decided to make a huge splurge and shouted, "One hundred thousand! I’ll give you one hundred thousand for your puppy! Hey, don’t walk away! Did you hear me? That’s one hundred thousand!"
Chen Feng, who was standing nearby, couldn’t watch this any longer. She stepped in front of Xie Yuan and said, "Director Xie, first of all, little Erhei is Ye Xing’s beloved dog. He’s not going to sell him. Secondly, I should remind you that Ye Xing isn’t some ordinary person. The man drives a Porsche. To him, anything less than five million is probably just pocket change."
’What? Five million?! And that’s just pocket change?!’ Xie Yuan was stunned. ’Who is this guy? How can he be that rich? Is this for real?’
"Ye Xing is the supplier for Immortal Flavor Old Fish. You could say the entire restaurant industry in Luoxian County depends on his goodwill. On top of that, Boss Huang of the Five-Star Jinsheng Hotel and Governor Zhou of the Luoxian County Construction Bank are both his friends. Compared to that, your little salary... heh. I’ll leave it at that," Chen Feng said with a slight smile, then turned and headed down the mountain.
’The supplier for Immortal Flavor Old Fish! A status like that means he’s worth tens of millions, at least!’ Xie Yuan froze, his face instantly turning beet red with humiliation.
