Chapter 95: Divine Dog Xiao Erhei
Chapter 95: Chapter 95: Divine Dog Xiao Erhei
At that moment, everyone in the Half-Mountain Pavilion was either frozen in terror or scrambling to escape. No one, not even Chen Feng, noticed that the little black dog, Erhei, was slowly waking up in her arms.
Little Erhei had been sleeping soundly in the arms of the beautiful woman, a string of glistening drool dangling from his mouth. He was having a wonderful dream about frolicking with his sister, Erbai.
Startled awake by the thunderous roar, little Erhei groggily opened his eyes. With a look of extreme annoyance in his black-and-white puppy eyes, he glared at the magnificent striped tiger up ahead.
’That’s him. Yep, that’s the one. That weak-looking big oaf woke me up!’ A vicious glint flashed in little Erhei’s eyes. He snarled, revealing a pair of sharp little puppy teeth. With a SWOOSH, he leaped from Chen Feng’s arms. Demonic qi surged around his body as he transformed into a black shadow and shot toward the massive tiger.
"WOOF!" "WOOF WOOF WOOF!"
Instantly, the entire Half-Mountain Pavilion was filled with a series of high-pitched yaps. The sound was squeaky and puppy-like, but held a fierce edge.
Ye Xing, who had been about to move, froze in place. A faint smile touched his lips.
’Haha, I almost forgot I still have this little guy, Erhei. Looks like I won’t have to step in myself after all.’ Ye Xing was inwardly delighted. He really didn’t want to intervene unless he absolutely had to. Playing out a modern-day version of Wu Song fighting the tiger was far too conspicuous. It was always better to keep a low profile.
The tiger was now less than three or four meters from the little girl. Just as Xie Lan lunged forward to grab her daughter, Little Xin, her movement triggered a reaction from the beast.
"ROAR!"
The tiger let out a deafening roar. Its paws pounded the ground as it accelerated, opening its massive jaws to snap at the little girl.
Just as the little girl was about to be devoured, at this critical moment...
Suddenly—
A black shadow shot past, instantly planting itself in front of the little girl. It was none other than little Erhei.
"WOOF!"
Little Erhei let out a tender, high-pitched bark. He cocked his head, looking down his nose with utter disdain at the striped tiger that towered over him. An astonishing aura—a ferocious energy unique to a Demon Beast—began to emanate from his tiny body.
Demon Beasts and wild beasts are two completely different classes of creature. Wild beasts are low-level animals whose intelligence has not yet awakened; they exist in a state of primal instinct and possess only basic physical strength. Demon Beasts, however, are different. Having opened their Spiritual Acupoints, they are far more intelligent than wild beasts. They can even understand human speech and infer a person’s intent from their expressions and actions. Furthermore, by absorbing the essence of the heavens, earth, sun, and moon over long years, Demon Beasts cultivate demonic qi within their bodies. Demonic qi is a form of energy on the same level as a Martial Artist’s True Qi. When utilized, it can cause their combat power to skyrocket.
An unexpected challenger had appeared out of nowhere.
The pouncing tiger came to a screeching halt. Its huge eyes filled with a mixture of terror and confusion as it stared, uncomprehending, at the little black dog. It couldn’t understand why this tiny creature possessed such a terrifying aura. Through its sharp, beastly intuition, the tiger sensed an intense, life-threatening danger—the kind that could prove fatal at any moment.
"WOOF!"
Little Erhei let out a fierce bark and took a tiny step forward on his short, stubby legs.
The tiger scrambled back two large steps. It stood in a standoff with the little black dog, its eyes now filled with terror. It was already looking for a way out.
Standing behind the little black dog, Xie Lan was completely stunned. She felt as if her entire worldview had been turned upside down. But none of that mattered—her daughter was what was important. She immediately snatched up Little Xin and scrambled toward the safety of the stone pavilion.
The commotion immediately drew everyone’s attention. The whole series of events had only taken a few moments, and the fleeing crowd hadn’t gotten far. Hearing the sudden barking from the Half-Mountain Pavilion, the panicked people couldn’t help but turn their heads to look, their curiosity piqued.
One look was all it took for everyone to freeze, their faces a mask of dumbfounded disbelief. They even forgot their fear. They felt as if the worldview they had painstakingly built over their entire lives had completely crumbled, utterly shattered. If you could describe their collective thought in one sentence, it would be, "What in the actual hell is going on?! My god, it’s blinding my 24-karat-gold-plated eyes! Aah! Aah! Aah!"
"Honey, why did we stop running?"
"Run? Run my ass! Look over there! It’s a Divine Dog!"
"Quick, quick, film it! Use your phone! A video this amazing is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity! We’ll regret it forever if we miss this!"
"A Divine Dog!"
"Whose Divine Dog is that?!"
"Holy shit, it’s really a Divine Dog! What is happening?!"
"This video is incredible! I’m uploading this online—it’s definitely going to go viral!"
"That little puppy’s barks are so adorable! That high-pitched yip is so cute! I want to hug him!"
"Holy shit, holy shit! A Divine Dog! That tiger is terrified of a puppy’s bark! Can we get a measurement of the psychological trauma on that tiger? Bwahahaha!"
"Are you sure that’s a tiger? And not, like, a kitten? Or a sick cat?"
"Kitten my ass! Sick cat your ass! Have you ever seen a cat that big? That’s a full-grown tiger!"
"I must be dreaming. I need to rub my eyes and look again!"
The tourists who had been fleeing down the mountain came to a halt one by one, their gazes fixed ahead in utter shock. Some of the faster ones noticed something was off behind them. Why had the slower people stopped running? They were all just standing there, jaws dropped, looking completely dumbstruck.
Seeing that no tiger was chasing them, the faster tourists were overcome with curiosity. The itch was unbearable, and they couldn’t help but take a few steps back up the mountain. Following the others’ gazes toward the Half-Mountain Pavilion, they too were struck dumb, one after another.
In front of the Half-Mountain Pavilion, a little black dog—one not even tall enough to reach a person’s knee—was tilting its head, looking sideways at a massive striped tiger in a tense standoff.
"WOOF!"
With every bark from the little black dog, the tiger would stumble back two or three steps in fear, the terror in its eyes deepening.
"WOOF!"
The little black dog yapped again. The sound was squeaky and utterly adorable; some of the young women in the crowd were starting to get stars in their eyes. To the tiger, however, that same high-pitched bark felt like an overwhelming, crushing pressure.
"WOOF WOOF WOOF!" "WOOF WOOF WOOF!"
The little black dog suddenly began barking furiously. Pushing off the ground with its short, stubby legs, it shot forward like a black shadow, lunging at the striped tiger with an astonishing presence.
"ROAR... WHIMPER... WHINE!"
The tiger shuddered, its eyes wide with absolute terror. It whipped around and fled for its life, disappearing into the woods.
