My Glitched World Throne System Came Ten Years Too Early!
Chapter 145: Chaotic Trap!
WHOOOOOSH!!!
An enormous blue aura arc shot from Baldwin’s greatsword, tearing through the air towards the fleeing wagon.
’Fuck! Fuck! FUCK!’
Roderic gritted his teeth.
There was no way they could outrun that!
Without hesitation, he grabbed both his azure hooked blades.
Aura immediately began pouring into them.
Nearly three-quarters of his remaining aura vanished from his body as the blades lit up in a bright golden color.
’’BRING IT ON!!!’’ he shouted, swinging both blades down simultaneously.
WHOOSH! WHOOSH!
Two enormous golden aura arcs shot forward, crossing over each other to form a massive X.
A moment later, they collided with Baldwin’s attack.
BOOOOOOOOM!!!
A deafening explosion shook the surroundings.
The three aura arcs shattered upon impact, completely nullifying one another.
An enormous shockwave swept through the forest.
RUMBLE! RUMBLE!
The wagon shook violently.
’’WOAAAH!’’
John nearly lost his footing.
Even the horses pulling the wagon seemed startled by the explosion.
’’KEEP GOING!’’ Roderic shouted.
Frederic tightened his grip around the reins.
Within moments, the former stablehand managed to regain control of the horses and let them burst forward.
Meanwhile, Roderic stumbled back, barely managing to regain his balance.
’Fuck!’
He glanced at his trembling hands.
His aura reserves were almost completely depleted.
And judging by Baldwin’s expression, the bastard wasn’t even close to giving up!
’I can’t even chuck blades at them like this,’ he thought, gritting his teeth.
To make matters even worse, the wagon burst out into the open fields.
Roderic’s face fell as he looked around.
Absolutely nothing could be used to hinder the cavalry chasing them.
’We’re reaching the end of the line now!’ he thought, clenching his jaw.
For a moment, he prayed his father had set out of worry or that some other convenient circumstance could help them out.
But unfortunately... that didn’t seem to be the case.
Roderic glanced over his shoulder.
Baldwin and his remaining cavalry were still pursuing them.
Worse still, the three-seal knight was already raising his greatsword again!
Within moments, aura began gathering around it once more.
’Are you fucking kidding me?’ he thought. ’Do three seals have infinite fucking aura?!’
With how little aura he had left, there was absolutely no way to block it either.
Roderic’s gaze darted around desperately.
Suddenly, it landed on the enormous cloth covering the ballista.
’That’ll do!’
Without hesitation, he grabbed the fabric.
’’EVERYONE, GET DOWN!’’
WHOOSH!
He tore the cloth free and hurled it back.
The enormous piece of fabric spread through the air, flying directly towards Baldwin and his men.
’’WHAT THE?!’’
Baldwin’s expression changed.
The cloth was coming straight towards him!
’Damn it!’
He immediately stopped charging his attack and swung down.
A much smaller arc shot through the air in an instant.
RIIIIIIP!!!
The enormous cloth was torn into hundreds of pieces.
A moment later, Baldwin burst through the torn fabric, followed by his remaining cavalry.
’’YOU LITTLE BASTARD!’’ he roared.
Unfortunately for him, those few seconds had allowed the wagon to gain some distance.
Roderic couldn’t celebrate, though.
’What now?’ he thought, mind churning.
The Whitemane walls had come into sight, but that didn’t mean they were close to the Western gate yet.
In fact, it was still more than two minutes away!
And Baldwin was rapidly closing the distance again.
’Fuck!’
Roderic clenched his teeth.
Was there really nothing he could do but wait until they caught up?
His eyes narrowed as a last-ditch effort came to mind.
’System! Open the shop and search for magic scro—’
Suddenly, a loud shout interrupted his thoughts.
’’YOUNG MASTER!’’ Peter shouted. ’’THE FIRST RED CROSS IS COMING UP!’’
Roderic froze for a split second.
Then his eyes lit up.
’Perfect!’ he thought. ’Better than perfect!’
Closing the System Shop, he immediately jumped to the front of the carriage.
Before Peter could react, Roderic snatched the map out of his hands.
His gaze quickly scanned the surroundings.
Suddenly, it stopped.
’There!’
A thin strip of grassless dirt was perfectly lit by the moonlight.
It stood out, being completely surrounded by grass from the fields.
But that was only for those who were looking for something unusual.
’This is it!’ he thought, pulling out his azure blades. ’Our last chance!’
His vision sharpened for a moment.
Almost immediately, he spotted two thin ropes concealed among the grass on opposite sides of the thin strip of dirt.
’’FREDERIC!’’ he shouted. ’’KEEP GOING STRAIGHT!’’
Frederic nodded once, his breathing heavy and focused.
RUMBLE! RUMBLE!
The wagon raced forward.
Within moments, it passed the disturbed earth.
Roderic immediately spun around, both blades leaving his hands.
WHOOSH! WHOOSH!
Each blade shot towards a different side of the dirt line.
Seeing the weapons fly, Baldwin’s eyes widened, sensing something amiss.
SNAP! SNAP!
Roderic’s blades severed the ropes.
Before anyone could react, two wooden poles shot back on either side of the road.
TWAAAAAANG!
The dirt covering the road burst apart.
A long steel chain was violently ripped from beneath the ground!
In the blink of an eye, it stretched across the road.
The leading cavalry knights barely had time to react.
’’JUMP!’’
Several horses leaped into the air.
A few managed to clear the chain. But the others weren’t so fortunate.
CRAAASH!
One horse slammed directly into the steel chain, sending its rider flying.
Another attempted to jump, but its hind legs caught the chain!
NEIGHHH!
The animal crashed to the ground.
And for the knights behind them, things were even worse.
With the riders ahead blocking their view, they hadn’t even noticed the chain!
’’WATCH OUT!’’
It was already too late.
Another horse slammed into the fallen animals.
Its rider was thrown forward, crashing directly into one of the knights lying on the ground.
’’ARGHHH!’’
Others soon followed behind.
Roderic watched the chaos unfold, unsure whether to be happy or sad.
’The trap worked,’ he thought, narrowing his eyes. ’Let’s hope that buys us enough time.’
Amidst the chaos, one particular figure had remained seated on his horse.
Baldwin had managed to clear the chain alongside a handful of his knights.
But instead of continuing immediately, he had pulled on his reins.
’’WOAH!’’
His horse came to a halt.
Baldwin turned around, looking at the disaster unfolding behind him.
Several of his knights were lying on the ground, while others struggled to regain control of their horses.
’’Damn it!’’
His gaze shifted towards the distant walls of Whitemane City.
Even the Western Gate was beginning to come into view.
Baldwin’s expression twisted with rage.
How had he allowed a mere Two-Seal Knight to make such a fool out of him?!
Every loss he’d suffered during the pursuit flashed through his mind.
’’GODDAMN IT ALL!"
His gaze landed on the retreating wagon.
’’YOU WILL PAY FOR THIS!’’
