My Glitched World Throne System Came Ten Years Too Early!
Chapter 144: Chase!
RUMBLE! RUMBLE!
The wagon continued racing through the forest.
Behind them, Baldwin and his men were closing in.
WHOOSH! WHOOSH!
Two hooked blades flew from Roderic’s hands, shooting towards the pursuing cavalry.
Unfortunately, his opponents weren’t ordinary soldiers.
They were veteran knights!
Even the weakest could deflect a simple thrown weapon.
CLANG! CLANG!
Just like that, both hooked blades were knocked away.
But Roderic didn’t give up.
He immediately grabbed a bundle of weapons and tucked them under his left arm.
Without hesitation, he began chucking them one after another with his right hand.
CLANG! CLANG! CLANG!
The sound of metal striking metal rang out amidst the noise of galloping hooves.
Just then, one of Roderic’s blades finally hit its target.
NEIGH!!!
It struck one of the center horses directly in the neck.
The animal died on the spot, collapsing to the ground.
Its rider was thrown roughly from the saddle.
THUD!
’’WATCH OUT!’’
Two soldiers behind him hurriedly pulled on their reins.
One barely managed to avoid the fallen horse.
The other’s horse leaped over the fallen animal, nearly throwing its rider from the saddle.
Glancing over his shoulder, the knight’s expression fell slightly.
Behind him, the fallen horse had rolled directly on top of its rider.
Without help, it wouldn’t be long before he stopped breathing due to the immense weight on his chest.
’’Commander!’’ he shouted. ’’Should I go back and help him?!’’
’’NO!’’ Baldwin roared. ’’CONTINUE THE PURSUIT!’’
An incredibly painful expression flashed across the knight’s face.
’’Y-YES, COMMANDER!’’
Baldwin gritted his teeth, his own expression no better.
As much as it pained him to abandon one of his knights like this, they couldn’t afford to let Roderic escape.
The bastard had just murdered a mage personally sent by the Second Royal Prince!
If they failed to capture the culprit, there was no telling what His Highness would do.
’Damn it!’ he cursed. ’I’ll make you pay for this!’
Meanwhile, Roderic continued chucking blades towards the pursuing cavalry.
CLANG! CLANG! CLANG!
His blades were getting blocked one after another.
’Fuck!’
He glanced at the dwindling pile beneath his arm.
Without hesitation, he called upon the system.
’System! Purchase five more pairs of Twin Tiger Hook Blades!’
[Ding!]
[5 Throne Coins deducted!]
Five pairs of hooked blades appeared out of thin air, clattering onto the wagon floor.
Roderic immediately grabbed another pair.
’Let’s see how long you bastards can keep this up!’
Just then, Finn’s voice rang out beside him.
’’Young master!’’ he exclaimed cheerfully. ’’Let me help!’’
Without waiting for a response, he grabbed two of the blades lying on the wagon floor.
WHOOSH! WHOOSH!
With surprisingly great accuracy, Finn’s blades shot towards the knights.
CLANG!
One was knocked away.
But the other struck a knight directly in the shoulder.
Unfortunately... it did absolutely nothing.
’’Oh, seems like I’m not strong enough!’’ Finn exclaimed, rubbing the back of his head. ’’I’ll have to leave this to you, young master!’’
Roderic glanced at him, his expression dark.
’’THEN STOP TALKING AND HAND ME THE BLADES!’’ he shouted.
Finn nodded right away.
’’Of course, young master!’’ he replied with a giggle.
He immediately crouched down, gathering the remaining hooked blades from the wagon floor.
Meanwhile, Roderic turned his attention back towards the pursuing cavalry.
Despite how many blades he kept throwing, they were still closing the distance relatively fast.
’I need to do something else,’ he thought.
His gaze darted around rapidly.
Suddenly, it paused on several trees lining their path.
’How about this?!’
He tossed the ordinary blades aside and pulled out his azure hooked blade.
A golden aura surged around its sharp edge in an instant.
Slashing down horizontally, a large golden arc left his blade.
WHOOOSH!
It shot towards the nearby trees.
Without even making a sound, the aura sliced straight through their trunks.
The large trees slowly began tilting sideways before crashing down towards the pursuing cavalry.
BOOOOM!
’’WATCH OUT!’’
Several knights immediately pulled on their reins.
Others hurriedly swerved to the side, narrowly avoiding the falling trunks.
Watching the chaos, a wide grin spread across Roderic’s face.
’’HOW’S THAT, YOU ASSHOLES?!’’ he shouted, already in motion again.
Without hesitation, he picked up his blades and began chucking them once more.
WHOOSH! WHOOSH! WHOOSH!
They shot towards the unprepared cavalry.
Most noticed just in time... but some weren’t that lucky.
SHHK! SHHK!
One blade pierced through a knight’s armor, deep into his side.
Another shot through a knight’s leg, causing him to fall off his horse.
’’AAARGH!!!’’
The knight’s screams rang out as he crashed onto the ground, rolling several times before coming to a stop.
Roderic watched on in delight as they gained some ground.
Unfortunately, that didn’t last for long.
WHOOSH!
A large blue arc shot through the air.
Several of his thrown blades were crushed in an instant.
’’DON’T STOP!’’ Baldwin roared. ’’KEEP MOVING!’’
The remaining knights immediately urged their horses forward.
Baldwin himself was already charging forward, rapidly closing the distance.
Seeing that, Roderic bit down on his lip.
’Let’s try the same again,’ he thought, glancing to the side.
A single tree was coming up ahead.
Without hesitation, he stepped forward and slashed out once more.
His aura arc sliced through the tree in an instant.
CRACK!
The enormous trunk began falling towards the pursuing cavalry.
However, Baldwin was already prepared.
Aura lit up his greatsword as he thrust it forward.
BOOOOOM!!!
In an instant, an almost bullet-like aura smashed into the tree.
Roderic watched with wide eyes as it shattered into countless pieces.
’Oh shit,’ he thought. ’That’s not good.’
Baldwin charged straight through, his horse barely slowing down.
Roderic gritted his teeth.
His aura reserves had already fallen below half.
And to make matters worse, the trees were beginning to thin out.
Beyond them, he could already see the vast fields surrounding Whitemane City.
’Shit! We’re almost out of the forest!’
Once that happened, there quite literally wouldn’t be anything left to block them with.
He glanced over his shoulder.
Baldwin had already closed much of the distance, his expression filled with murderous intent.
Just then, the knight raised his greatsword over his head.
An immense amount of aura began gathering around it, lighting up the surroundings.
Roderic’s face paled.
’Oh fuck!’
