My Ecchi Superpower System

Chapter 18: Chapter 18| An intruder?...
He looked at him for a second. Then the corner of his mouth pulled slightly.
"No," he replied. "Just heard somethings about you." He shrugged. "My dad talked about your father," the guy said. "Said he was the most technically precise hero he’d ever seen work. Not the strongest. Not the fastest. Just precise. Every movement had a reason behind it." He paused. "Said the Harbor situation was a failure of circumstance not character."
The room was quiet for a second.
Zane looked at him.
Nobody had said anything like that to him since he’d arrived. Not even close.
"Your dad knew him?" Zane asked.
"Worked a few joint operations in the early years." The guy stepped fully into the room and extended a hand. "Kael. B-rank. Wind Shear Sigil."
Zane shook it. "Zane."
’Rare for someone to lead with their Sigil on an introduction,’ he thought. ’Most people wait to be asked or let it come up naturally. Kael just put it on the table upfront.’
"I know," Kael said simply. And found himself a spot to lean against the wall like he’d been in this room before.
Dex was already introducing the others . The tall girl was Pris, A-rank, some kind of barrier Sigil. The broad guy was Torre, B-rank, density enhancement. The glasses guy was Fen, C-rank, sensory amplification.
’For some reason that doesn’t surprise me,’ Zane thought, running through the ranks. ’This academy doesn’t admit anyone below C-rank. Obviously. They’re not here to develop potential — they’re here to refine it. Every student in this building already cleared a baseline that most people never reach. The floor here is someone else’s ceiling.’
He paused on that thought for a second.
’Which makes me the single exception to a rule the entire institution was built around.’
’No pressure,’ he thought.
『 Correct. Aldren’s admission criteria filters for C-rank minimum Sigil classification. You are the statistical anomaly. Use it. 』
’Use being the exception,’ Zane thought.
『 Nobody expects anything from an anomaly. That is an advantage most B-rank students will never have. 』
The system was very busy.
『 MULTIPLE SIGIL SIGNATURES DETECTED 』
『 WIND SHEAR — B-RANK 』
『 BARRIER FORMATION — A-RANK 』
『 DENSITY SHIFT — B-RANK 』
『 SENSORY AMP — C-RANK 』
『 Acquisition prompts available. Awaiting host approval. 』
’Not yet,’ Zane thought. ’Both slots are full.’
『 Noted. Filing for future reference. 』
"So," Torre said, dropping onto Dex’s bed without asking, "you’re the first year Dex won’t shut up about."
Zane looked at Dex.
Dex shrugged with complete serenity. "I said you were interesting. That’s all."
"He said you show up at 6:20 AM every morning and don’t complain about Gerald," Pris said from the doorway, arms crossed. "Which is either dedication or poor judgment."
"Both," Zane said.
She almost smiled.
Gerald wheezed on cue.
The squad looked at the vent.
"Gerald," Dex said solemnly. "He’s been here longer than all of us."
Kael looked at the vent. Then at Dex. Then at Zane with an expression that said he understood exactly what kind of year this was going to be.
"Rank trials in two weeks," Kael said, looking back at Zane. "You ready?"
"Getting there," Zane said.
Kael nodded slowly. The same way his father probably nodded when Sovereign said something that landed correctly without needing elaboration.
"Good enough," Kael said.
The room filled with the noise of five people settling back into a space after a week away. Bags dropped, conversations picked up mid-sentence, Torre still occupying Dex’s bed without apparent guilt.
Zane turned back to his desk.
Fourteen days.
Gerald wheezed like he was agreeing for once.
_ _
6:20 AM. Training grounds.
Zane was mid sequence when he heard footsteps that weren’t Maren’s.
Different weighted . Longer stride. He didn’t break his drill but he tracked the sound as it crossed the grounds toward their corner.
Kael stopped at the edge of the pad and looked at the two of them.
Maren glanced up briefly then went back to her drill without comment. She’d seen enough people come through the training grounds at this hour to have stopped reacting to new arrivals.
Kael looked at Zane.
"Dex said you were here every morning," Kael said. "I wanted to see what that looked like."
"Now you know," Zane said, not breaking his sequence.
Kael dropped his bag and found a clear section of ground nearby. No fanfare. No announcement. Just started his own warm up like he’d always trained in this corner and this was just another morning.
Familiarity tick incoming, Zane thought.
They ran parallel for ten minutes. Zane, Maren, and Kael. Three people in the same corner doing real work without performing it for each other.
Then Kael spoke.
"Your footwork is interesting," he said without looking up from his own drill.
"How so," Zane said.
"The way you shift your weight before a movement sequence there’s a pattern to it. Load, transfer, burst." Kael paused his drill briefly. "Most people without an enhancement Sigil don’t move like that. The timing is too clean."
Zane kept his expression neutral.
"Good fundamentals," he said.
"You said that to me last night when Torre asked about your training," Kael said. "Same words exactly."
’He clocked the repetition,’ Zane thought.
"Because it’s true both times," Zane said.
Kael looked at him for a long moment. "Honestly I just wanted to see what Sovereign’s son looks like when he trains." He said it without weight. Just fact, delivered plainly. "Dex made it sound like you had something worth watching."
He filed whatever he found away under a label that said pending and went back to his drill without waiting for a response.
Maren, from her side of the pad, said nothing. But Zane caught the slight angle of her head that meant she’d been listening to every word.
’Two people in this corner who notice things,’ Zane thought. ’Wonderful.’
『 System Note: Kael’s observation was accurate. Your movement pattern when Overdrive is active at low output produces micro-signatures inconsistent with unenhanced baseline. Recommend varying activation timing to reduce pattern recognition risk. 』
