My Child and I Married a Billionaire
Chapter 449: Taking Action for Her
Faye Fisher’s expression remained placid.
Even though she knew these people were Amina’s relatives, she couldn’t bring herself to like them. She had just overheard them viciously discussing forcing Amina to meet someone, even threatening what they would do to "take care of her" if she refused. It was clear they had ill intentions.
She controlled her expression. "Hello. Are you new to Veridia? I don’t think I’ve seen you with Amina before."
Faye Fisher didn’t know why, but she’d had a special fondness for Amina from the moment they met. She knew Amina was a pure and kind-hearted girl.
For a girl like that, being born into a wealthy family with such a personality would make her an angel. It would be a blessing.
But being born into a poor family, possessing both beauty and kindness, was nothing short of a disaster for a girl.
She couldn’t bear to see her get hurt.
The eldest brother was thrilled to be talking to a beautiful woman and eagerly answered Faye Fisher’s questions.
"We’ve been to Veridia before; this is our second time. Are you close with Amina? How old are you? Are you from Veridia, or are you from out of town?"
Faye Fisher ignored his questions and changed the subject.
"I overheard you discussing something just now. Are you here to ask Amina for help with something?"
No matter how incompetent the eldest brother was, he still had his male pride. He couldn’t admit he needed something from Amina.
"We’re not here to ask for her help. It’s... there are some things you might not know. Amina was probably too embarrassed to tell you, but we’re actually here to help her."
Faye Fisher: "Oh? Help her? Is she in some kind of trouble?"
The eldest brother said, "She got a boyfriend here behind our backs. The guy’s a total scumbag. Not only is he bad to her, but he also looks down on us country folk. He’s practically been trying to ruin us behind the scenes. We’re looking for Amina because we want to..."
Tim Tate’s mother, annoyed by his fawning over Faye Fisher, stepped forward and yanked him back.
The eldest brother finally realized he’d said too much and scratched his head, embarrassed.
"Anyway, we’re going to find Amina. You’re going too, right? Let’s go together. Have you eaten? How long have you known Amina?"
Faye Fisher still didn’t answer his questions.
She glanced at the two brothers, who were all brawn and no brains, then at Tim Tate’s family.
"Speaking of her ex-boyfriend, Amina mentioned him to me a few times. He really is a piece of work. I didn’t realize he was even worse than I thought, looking down on Amina’s family like that. How despicable. But if you’re looking for Amina because of this, I’m afraid it’s useless."
Not only was the eldest brother stunned, but Tim Tate’s mother was also taken aback. She asked anxiously,
"Why? Why would you say that?"
Faye Fisher: "Because they’ve really broken up. Given his social standing, there’s nothing Amina can do to touch him. Besides, she has a kind heart and is in no mood to fight with anyone."
A cunning glint flashed in Faye Fisher’s eyes.
"If you truly feel wronged and can’t swallow this injustice, why don’t you take matters into your own hands?"
After waiting outside all day with nothing to show for it, a flicker of hope had just been ignited, only to be extinguished by these words. Tim Tate’s mother was furious.
"If we had a way to handle this ourselves, would we need to find her? This is the worst luck, getting dragged into her mess! No, she has to go today, whether she wants to or not! We can’t just stand by and let her drag our family down. Let’s go up and find her now!"
With that, she tried to walk around Faye Fisher, but Faye reached out and stopped her.
"Auntie. I can call you Auntie, right? I already told you, looking for Amina is useless. Insisting on finding her is just a waste of time and breath. You can talk to me. I’m her only good friend in Veridia, and I’m willing to help her with anything. Come on, let’s have a proper chat."
She looked so young, so beautiful, and so smart—like she and Amina were from completely different worlds. How could they possibly be good friends?
Everyone was skeptical, but they had no other options. Deciding it was a shot in the dark worth taking, they told Faye Fisher about their trip to the television station.
Faye Fisher was dying of laughter on the inside, but her face remained impassive.
"Your approach is excellent. Standing up to power and defending your own interests—that’s exactly the right thing to do. But you might be a little lacking in connections. You came to the right person. I have friends who are reporters. It’s too late today, but first thing tomorrow morning, I’ll have one of them meet you with a camera crew."
It was like a light at the end of the tunnel. Everyone was instantly overjoyed.
"Really? You know a reporter? You’re not lying to us, are you, young lady?"
"Why would I lie to you? I’ll go with you tomorrow. Here, let’s exchange numbers."
Amina had adamantly refused to say who her ex-boyfriend was. Now that this group had shown up because of him, Faye Fisher was dying of curiosity. She had to go with them and see who this scumbag really was.
He was such a piece of work. Amina might let him off the hook, but she wouldn’t.
’If everyone just lets scumbags get away with everything, won’t they think they can do whatever they want?’
They abandoned the idea of looking for Amina. After some discussion, the group returned to Tim Tate’s home, and Faye Fisher returned to the Jacobs Family estate.
An old classmate of Faye Fisher’s was working as a director for a program at Veridia Television. She contacted him and easily got in touch with the producer of the station’s legal affairs program.
Hearing that a wealthy family was providing them with material, the producer was thrilled. He set up a work group chat that very night and arranged the staff for the next day’s interview.
The next morning, Faye Fisher and the group met up with the reporter outside the Walton Family’s villa.
Gazing at the magnificent villa estate, the reporter was both astonished and troubled.
"Mrs. Jacobs, do you have any idea who lives here? Are you sure you have evidence that our story is true? If you don’t have concrete proof, and you’re just trying to make a splash or have some other motive, the consequences of offending this family are not something we can afford."
This was Faye Fisher’s first time at Zeke Walton’s home, so she didn’t know who lived there. She looked at the reporter, displeased.
"Evidence or not, just look at this ethnic minority group that’s come all the way from the mountains, and then look at this mansion. You know how much of a draw this story will be for your program. For your station, it’s a guaranteed win. Why are you overthinking it?"
"If they had evidence, they would have gone straight to the police. Why would they need your help to sway public opinion? What’s the matter? A big station like Veridia Television gets cold feet when it’s time to report a story? Who exactly lives here? The uncrowned king of Veridia?"
Veridia was a first-tier city with several top-tier wealthy families, the most prominent of which was the Vaughn Family.
The Walton Family certainly couldn’t be called the uncrowned kings, but their financial power was immense, and they were good friends with the Vaughn Family. The reporter was still afraid.
"I should call the station director and run this by him. This family is incredibly powerful. Even if we film the segment, it might never air. And then I could lose my job for offending them... Mrs. Jacobs, please wait a moment."
