My Child and I Married a Billionaire
Chapter 407: The Never-Ending Lie
In the past, he had no secrets and never avoided any topic with Zeke Walton, but now it had become a burden.
Unsure how to fool Zeke Walton, Wyatt Wynn rubbed his forehead, speechless.
"I don’t feel well. Can you stop messing around? I said I’ll be out later. I don’t need you hovering over me, so go back to your own room."
His refusal to open the door made Zeke Walton sense that something was off.
"What’s this about, Wyatt Wynn? Afraid to let me in? What’s going on? Is someone in there? Did you fucking bring a girl back from the bar last night? Unbelievable. You just got here and you’re already getting lucky. You really don’t waste a single day, do you!"
Wyatt Wynn was speechless again, but with no better excuse, he could only go along with it.
"Now that you know, take a hint and get lost. A grown man shouting at someone’s door this early in the morning... could you be any more annoying?"
"Alright, alright. You’re busy. I get it. I’ll get lost, okay?"
Zeke Walton finally stopped ringing the doorbell. Wyatt Wynn hurried back into the room and grabbed a bathrobe for Faye Fisher.
"Hurry up. Get dressed and go back to your room. It’ll be a huge problem if someone sees you."
Even though their friends knew full well about her arranged marriage to Brandon Jacobs, she was still with Brandon now. If anyone saw her here, Wyatt’s years-long friendship with Brandon would be over.
With the passion faded and her head clear, Faye Fisher understood the gravity of the situation. She slipped on the bathrobe, got out of bed, and put on her slippers to stand up.
But she immediately fell back onto the bed.
She winced. ’God, that hurts.’
Wyatt Wynn rushed over to help her up. "How long has it been for you? Why are you this sore?"
Faye Fisher pushed him away irritably. "How long? You think I’m like you, never taking a day off? I haven’t been with anyone since we broke up!"
"So this whole time... I’m the only person you’ve been with?"
At that, Faye Fisher felt a surge of resentment.
She grabbed his chin and demanded, "What about you? How many women have you been with since we broke up? Can you count them on both hands? Or is it a two-digit number?"
Although Wyatt Wynn had flirted with his fair share of women, God as his witness, he hadn’t seriously dated a single one in all these years. None of them had ever truly captured his heart. For Faye Fisher to say that... he felt completely wronged.
’But on second thought, what did it matter if she was wrong or not?’
"Look, if you want to settle a score, can we please do it another time, in another place? Just go, before someone catches you."
Faye Fisher gritted her teeth against the pain and started walking toward the door.
Seeing her obvious discomfort, Wyatt Wynn couldn’t help but worry.
"People will know what happened just by looking at you. Are you still going to be able to participate in today’s activities?"
"I can do it. I’ll go even if it kills me. There’s no way I’m staying cooped up in a room by myself."
Faye Fisher gritted her teeth and continued toward the door. She had almost reached it when she abruptly remembered something.
"How am I supposed to get back? I lost my room key, remember?"
Wyatt Wynn slapped his forehead. Only then did he remember why she had stayed in his room last night.
’Shit. If she can’t get back to her room, she won’t have any of her own clothes to change into. Her clothes from last night are soaked and still lying on the floor. What’s she supposed to wear?’
"You might as well just hide in my room today. There’s no way you’re leaving through that door."
"But I’ll just be left alone with my thoughts if I hide in here by myself."
Faye Fisher pouted at him. "Unless... you don’t go either, and we stay in the room together?"
’At this point, it was the only option.’
Wyatt Wynn told her to get back in bed, then changed his clothes, grabbed his key card, and left.
When he got to the restaurant, Cecelia Archer, Damien Vaughn, and Zeke Walton had already finished eating.
He, at least, had come down.
"Where’s Faye Fisher? Why is her phone still off? What time did you two get back last night? Nothing happened, did it?"
Zeke Walton asked.
Wyatt Wynn pretended to focus on his food and answered evasively.
"When do you think? You were completely wasted. If we hadn’t both helped you back, did you think you flew here on your own? After hauling your drunk ass back, you think I was in any mood to go out again?"
Zeke said, "...Did Faye Fisher drink a lot too? I can’t reach her. Maybe I should go knock on her door?"
Wyatt Wynn said, feigning composure, "No need. She spilled a drink on her phone last night, so it’s broken. She said she doesn’t feel like joining the activities today and that we should go on our own and not worry about her."
’But she’s the one who made the itinerary. On the way here, she was more excited than anyone, talking about all the spots she wanted to hit. And now that we’re here, she’s not going?’
Cecelia Archer was a little puzzled.
"Did something happen last night? Is she upset because Brandon Jacobs didn’t come back?"
’Anyone would be upset, come to think of it.’
’They were supposed to be on their honeymoon, but her husband ran off on the very first night.’
"Who knows."
Wyatt Wynn feigned ignorance, acting as if he and she weren’t close.
"We should probably stay out of her private business. Anyway, let’s go."
The men could choose to ignore it, but Cecelia couldn’t. Faye only knew one other woman in the group—her. Cecelia couldn’t bring herself to abandon her at such a vulnerable time.
"You know what, you guys go ahead. I’m not going either. When you’re in a bad mood, being alone in a room just makes your mind race. I should stay and keep her company. Maybe we can just go for a walk around here."
Zeke Walton and Damien Vaughn thought she had a point, but Wyatt Wynn disagreed.
"I don’t think that’s a good idea. She seems cool and aloof on the surface, but she’s actually very hard to get close to. If she said she wants to be left alone, she probably means it. We should respect that."
Cecelia Archer: "..."
What was supposed to be a great trip was turning sour, with one person not going and another unhappy. Suddenly, no one seemed very enthusiastic anymore.
After thinking it over, Cecelia Archer spoke up again.
"Why don’t we just cancel today’s outing and hang out at the hotel instead? You guys are the best at organizing indoor activities, right? We can get her to join us. We could play some sports, go for a swim, play some games... just to keep her company and take her mind off things. Regardless, what Brandon Jacobs did was too much. As his friends, how can you not say something to him?"
"I will! I’ll give him a piece of my mind when he gets back tonight!"
As someone who had been betrayed himself, Zeke Walton was filled with righteous indignation and particularly despised Brandon Jacobs’s behavior.
"If you don’t want to get married, then don’t! But if you do, then at least commit to it. I can’t stand his indifferent attitude! I’m with Cecelia. Let’s not go out today; let’s stay at the hotel and keep Faye company. The poor girl came all this way to get married, ended up on a trip with a bunch of strangers, and we’re just going to leave her all alone? I feel depressed just thinking about it for her."
’Wyatt Wynn wanted nothing more than to slap him across the forehead.’
’You’re depressed? *I’m* the one who’s about to be depressed, buddy! If none of you are leaving, how is she supposed to get out of my room?’
But at this point, Wyatt Wynn couldn’t think of any other excuses.
"Alright, fine. You all go back to your rooms and get ready. I’ll let her know after I finish eating, and then we can start."
"Don’t worry about it. You take your time eating. I’ll go wake her up and keep her company in her room for a while."
Cecelia Archer said, standing up.
Wyatt Wynn was so startled he almost dropped his knife and fork.
