My Child and I Married a Billionaire
Chapter 402: I Knew You Were a Good Person
With the exception of Cecelia Archer, everyone had studied abroad, so they weren’t particularly interested in seeing foreign sights. Not wanting a long journey, they decided on Seacliff as the destination for the honeymoon trip.
A place facing the sea, sizzling with life and energy.
Seacliff’s economy was primarily driven by tourism, so it was always bustling with visitors, and the entire city was beautifully developed.
Cecelia Archer, a homebody who had rarely traveled, was instantly captivated. Her great mood naturally put Damien Vaughn in high spirits as well. When night fell, the two naturally secluded themselves in their room to get started on their baby-making plan.
It was too early to sleep right after dinner, and as two single men, Zeke Walton and Wyatt Wynn weren’t about to turn in. They found a nearby bar and went for a drink.
Unexpectedly, not long after they sat down, Brandon Jacobs showed up too.
"Hey, Vaughn and Cecelia are already working overtime on baby number two, and you, a newlywed, are out here instead of in your room with your wife? Still want to play around this much? From what I can see, that Faye Fisher isn’t one to be trifled with. Watch out, or she’ll come after you and scratch up your face."
Zeke Walton teased Brandon Jacobs.
Brandon Jacobs shot him an indifferent look.
"Stop pretending. I don’t believe for a second you can’t see what’s going on. You clearly know the situation, so what’s the point of saying things like that? You think this is funny?"
Zeke had, in fact, figured it out. And even if he hadn’t, Wyatt Wynn had told him.
Truthfully, he didn’t get it either. Why had Brandon Jacobs’s personality changed so drastically all of a sudden? And what was wrong with Faye Fisher? She was gorgeous, and her personality was lively and open.
In the past, even if he wasn’t serious about her type, he would have at least played along enthusiastically. Now she was his wife, so why was he giving her the cold shoulder?
Zeke continued to needle him. "I’m telling you, Jacobs, you’ve been acting really strange lately. You married a total knockout and you’re still not satisfied. What the hell do you want? Or are you sick? Gotten depression or something? Want me to take you to see a shrink?"
"Just worry about yourself," Brandon Jacobs said to them after taking a sip of his drink.
"I came to find you two because I have something to tell you. The reason I chose Seacliff is that I have some business to take care of. I’ve already told Faye Fisher I’ll be away for a few days. I need you guys to help look after her. Call me if anything comes up."
The other two never in a million years expected him to say something like that.
"You chose to come to Seacliff because you had business to attend to? What kind of business?"
They never knew Brandon Jacobs knew anyone here. What business could he possibly have?
"Don’t tell me you’re keeping a woman here? Holy shit, so that’s where you were when you suddenly disappeared a while back? If you like that woman so much, why did you marry Faye Fisher? You motherf—"
Having been betrayed himself, Zeke Walton had zero tolerance for cheaters and was about to lay into Brandon Jacobs.
"Stay out of my business. Just worry about yourselves."
Brandon Jacobs was in no mood for a lecture. He clapped Wyatt Wynn on the shoulder.
"Zeke Walton’s unreliable, so I’m leaving this to you. I’m off."
And just like that, he was gone. Watching his retreating back, Wyatt Wynn felt a profound sense of sorrow well up inside him.
’It might be a marriage of convenience, but this is taking ’convenience’ a little too far.’
’Faye Fisher, oh, Faye Fisher, what have you gotten yourself into?’
Just as he was lamenting Faye Fisher’s fate, she appeared.
Showing no sign of unhappiness at being ditched by her new husband, she was a vision of fiery red lips, smoky eyeshadow, and voluminous waves. She wore a sexy little camisole, ultra-short hot pants, and a pair of sparkling high heels.
The moment she walked into the bar, countless men stopped in their tracks to stare.
Zeke Walton took one look and did a spit-take with his drink.
"This couple is really something else. I was just feeling sorry for her, and here she is. But you know, a woman with her personality is the perfect match for a heartless husband like Brandon Jacobs. Hey, sis! Over here!"
Several men had already surrounded her, trying to hit on her, and Faye Fisher was in the middle of fending them off. When she heard Zeke Walton call out to her, she waved back.
The men surrounding her all frowned.
"You’re married?"
"Didn’t you hear him? He called me his sister-in-law. My husband and his brother are right over there."
Taking the hint, the men all dispersed.
Faye Fisher plopped down next to Zeke Walton and patted his leg.
"Not cool, coming out for drinks without inviting me. You’re already halfway through the bottle? So stingy. Afraid I wouldn’t chip in for the tab?"
Zeke Walton grabbed a strawberry from the fruit platter in front of them and popped it into her mouth.
"My bad, my bad. From now on, I’ll definitely invite you out. Here, eat a strawberry to sweeten that mouth of yours. Tell me, why does someone so gorgeous have such a vicious tongue? Even I can barely handle you sometimes."
"That’s the point. Otherwise, you men would walk all over me."
Faye Fisher ate the strawberry, poured herself a drink, and her eyes began to dart around the room.
"This bar is nothing like Brandon Jacobs’s place. I don’t see any hotties, the vibe isn’t exactly electric, and it’s kinda boring."
Zeke Walton really liked her personality.
He’d been around delicate, pretentious women his whole life. Girls like Cecelia Archer and Faye, who said whatever was on their mind and had a bit of a tomboyish streak, were exactly his type.
"So what? If you spot someone particularly interesting, are you planning on picking up one or two?"
"And why not? I’m young. I can’t be expected to live like a widow," Faye Fisher said bluntly.
"I think you’re pretty handsome. You got any brothers or anything? Introduce me to one, save me the trouble of hunting around."
As much as Zeke Walton liked her straightforwardness, even he was a little taken aback by that.
"Whoa, lady, you haven’t even started drinking and you’ve already forgotten who you are? You’re Brandon Jacobs’s lawfully wedded wife, the official daughter-in-law of the Jacobs Family. You know their standing in Veridia better than I do. And you’re just openly out here looking for other men?"
Faye replied, "What’s the big deal? Brandon and I have an agreement. He can see other women, and I can see other men, as long as we aren’t too blatant about it and the family elders don’t find out. Isn’t he already off to see his little flame? So what? Would you rather I just sat at home, weeping and waiting for him?"
Zeke Walton was speechless.
’Well, if the two of them really did agree to it, then she had a point.’
’Brandon Jacobs wasn’t exactly upholding his end of the marital bargain, so he had no right to demand she uphold hers.’
"Looks like I really do have to find someone for you," Zeke said. "Otherwise, you’ll keep trawling bars like this, and sooner or later you’re going to get into trouble."
Hearing this, Faye Fisher happily clinked her glass against his.
"I knew you were a good guy the first time I met you. My judgment is spot-on. Come on, Zeke, here’s to you! My future happiness is in your hands now."
It was unclear exactly what "happiness" she was referring to, but Zeke Walton just roared with laughter. Beside him, however, Wyatt Wynn’s face darkened.
’All those years, and not a single bit of wisdom to show for it,’ Wyatt thought. ’She’s in her mid-twenties and still acts like she’s eighteen. Spouting whatever nonsense comes to mind.’
’And Zeke’s just as bad. So he got his heart broken? Is that any reason to join her in this foolishness?’
The two of them downed several more drinks. Noticing Wyatt Wynn sitting there with a long face, not saying a word, Zeke Walton nudged him with his elbow.
"I haven’t even asked you yet. What’s with you lately? It’s like you caught whatever Jacobs has. You got depression too? You’re moping around with a sour face all day. Or... did you get a girlfriend behind my back and break up already?"
