My Child and I Married a Billionaire
Chapter 395: Worse Than a Nanny
Although Damien Vaughn didn’t want to tag along, Zeke Walton had a point. He really did owe Cecelia Archer a honeymoon, and he’d owed it to her for a long time.
Ever since they returned from Rivia, Cecelia Archer had been very proactive about wanting a second child.
But perhaps because of the toll on her body from before, she hadn’t been able to conceive.
Damien Vaughn felt very guilty about this.
He didn’t refuse outright, thinking he should ask for Cecelia Archer’s opinion first.
Just as they were talking, Cecelia Archer and Faye Fisher came downstairs together.
Seeing the fresh-faced and completely transformed Faye Fisher, Zeke Walton let out a little "hey."
"Is this the same beauty from before? It’s like you’re a whole new person! Jacobs, you’ve got it made. One marriage certificate, and you get two wives."
"I’ll take that as a compliment." Faye Fisher pulled on Cecelia Archer’s arm and plopped down right beside him.
Zeke Walton didn’t move away. He’d always been fond of Cecelia Archer, so he took her hand.
"Jacobs and this lovely lady are going on a honeymoon. Wynn and I happen to be free lately, so we were thinking of tagging along for the fun. You and Vaughn have been married for so long, why don’t you have your honeymoon at the same time?"
"Huh? You’ve been married all this time and still haven’t had a honeymoon? That’s perfect! We can all go together."
Before Cecelia Archer could even say a word, Faye Fisher grabbed her other hand and started shaking it excitedly.
It was the first time in Cecelia Archer’s life she’d ever heard of so many people going on a honeymoon together. But it was a good thing. Ever since Sherry came back with them and Damien Vaughn helped her open a milk tea shop, Candy and Annie had been checking in there every single day.
Sherry still had a child-like personality and loved playing with them. Candy was now having so much fun every day she didn’t even want to come home. Cecelia really did want to have a second child.
Taking this opportunity to get away with Damien Vaughn, relax, and try a little harder... maybe she could finally get pregnant.
"Okay. Damien, would you be willing to go?"
Everyone else wanted to go. Wouldn’t it be a real downer if he was the only one who didn’t?
"I’ll do what you want."
And just like that, the honeymoon was settled.
After some more idle chatter, Damien Vaughn had to go back to arrange things at his company, and Cecelia Archer left with him.
As a newlywed wife, it wasn’t good for Faye Fisher to stay out for too long, so Brandon Jacobs took her home as well.
Once again, only the lonely Zeke Walton and Wyatt Wynn were left.
A moment ago, when Faye Fisher had floated down the stairs in her white dress, Wyatt Wynn’s thoughts were instantly pulled back several years.
The first time he saw her in the Norden, she had looked exactly like that.
’Faye might not say it, but I have a feeling this whole thing is aimed at me.’
’I know Jacobs too well. He hasn’t even glanced at Faye’s face. That’s not how newlyweds act. He doesn’t like her.’
’With Faye’s fiery personality... she broke up with me and wouldn’t let it go just because she caught me having a couple of drinks with another girl. Could she really accept a husband who doesn’t love her?’
’So, I’m certain. Her marriage to Jacobs is a transaction, a contract. They have no intention of making it work.’
To get revenge on him, she would actually throw away her marriage, throw away her entire life’s happiness... The thought was killing Wyatt Wynn.
The room fell quiet. Thinking of Amina, Zeke Walton felt a pang of pain as well.
The two of them drank glass after glass. When they had too much, they fell asleep right on the sofa. The staff moved them to rooms upstairs. By the time they woke up, it was already noon the next day.
Wyatt Wynn took a call and had to leave to handle something at his company. Zeke Walton sat on his bed in a daze for a while, his thoughts returning to Amina.
’Even though I said so many harsh things yesterday... I still can’t believe Amina really betrayed me. I still want to see her.’
He got in his car and, driving aimlessly, ended up back at the apartment building.
As luck would have it, Amina had spent the whole morning looking for an apartment, had already signed a lease with a landlord, and was just now coming back to get her things.
The housekeeper was standing in front of her and her grandmother, saying her goodbyes and wiping away tears from time to time.
"I’m so sorry, Auntie. It’s my fault you’ve suddenly lost your job."
Amina looked at the woman who, despite not knowing her for long, had taken such good care of her, and felt a wave of guilt.
The housekeeper looked at Amina, who was haggard and clearly hadn’t slept all night, and felt an indescribable ache in her heart for the girl.
"Don’t worry about me. I can always find another job. I’m mainly worried about you. Everything was going so well... How did you two end up..."
Amina didn’t want to talk about it anymore. She handed the keys to the housekeeper.
"These are my keys. Here, please give them back to him for me. I don’t want the apartment. The deed is in the bedroom drawer. I’m sorry. I know he doesn’t want to hear those two words, but I hope you can pass on the message for me. I wish him success in everything he does from now on, and that he finds happiness forever."
This made the housekeeper feel even worse, and tears streamed down her face uncontrollably.
She didn’t take the keys, thinking that maybe there was still a chance for the two of them to reconcile.
"You should give them to him yourself. You’re leaving, and Zeke won’t be coming back. No one’s going to be paying my salary, so what would I be doing living alone in someone else’s house? I was actually hoping you’d give my key to Zeke. Here, this is my key. You take it. Really, Amina. It’ll be a hassle for me to come all the way back just to drop off a key after I’ve found another job. Please, try to understand."
While they were packing, the housekeeper had packed her own things as well—just a single duffel bag that sat by her feet.
Seeing her hand over the key as well, Amina knew they would likely never see each other again. She couldn’t hold back the stinging in her nose any longer and burst into tears, hugging the older woman.
"I’m so, so sorry... It’s all my fault..."
After all the crying, the time to part finally came.
The housekeeper went left, they went right. They waved silently in farewell.
Zeke Walton watched their farewell, and the pain he felt intensified, even worse than yesterday.
He couldn’t breathe. It felt as if his nostrils, his throat, every passage for air, had been stuffed with cotton. His heart ached. It hurt so much, so, so much.
’When she broke up with me, she was so calm, so indifferent. But saying goodbye to the housekeeper, she’s a crying, reluctant mess. So after all this time, I’m not even as important as a housekeeper?’
Zeke Walton had never felt like such a failure. He desperately wanted to jump out of the car, grab Amina, and just strangle her.
But he was in so much pain, all over his body, that he didn’t have the strength to move.
Zeke Walton just lay there, slumped over the steering wheel. He didn’t know how long he stayed like that before he numbly began to come to his senses.
He looked around. In the entire vast city of Veridia, there wasn’t a single place he wanted to go. It felt like he had nowhere to go at all.
A sense of despair, of being unable to go on living, washed over him. He took out his phone and dialed his mother.
The moment the call connected, he couldn’t stop a sob from escaping.
"Mom..."
Zeke’s mom heard his crying and was startled.
"Son, what’s wrong? I was just about to call and ask you to come home for dinner. I made so many of your favorite dishes. I was worried you were busy and wouldn’t come, so I was hesitating to even call, but I didn’t expect... I guess a mother and son’s hearts really are connected, huh? Are you not feeling well? Where are you? Stay right there, don’t move. I’ll come pick you up, okay?"
