Chapter 866: A Wide Spread Rumor
Chapter 866: A Wide Spread Rumor
The Lawless City was in great turmoil as the news about Nyx having a daughter spread throughout the city; more than anything, many people had seen the two of them roaming the streets together and the gossip traveled fast.
Now everyone was aware of it, and everyone was shocked by the news. Most of the inhabitants reacted in disbelief; to them it was an almost impossible claim.
The cold, ruthless ruler of the eastern district of Grimhaven City having a daughter was simply ridiculous to the other criminal organizations.
Especially the Red Dragon Syndicate, one of the four largest organizations of the Lawless City. Its leader—Cassius Drayven—was utterly shocked upon hearing servants whisper the rumor.
He felt angrier than surprised; he had been pursuing Nyx for a decade, and every rejection from her had felt like a hot dagger stabbing his pride.
And now, knowing that Nyx actually had a daughter made him furious. He wanted answers; he wanted to find out who the father of that child was, and why he had not known until now.
In his room, Cassius sat on his luxurious sofa, his massive frame casting a huge shadow behind him, and the air was still and heavy, like the calm before a storm.
He lit a cigarette, inhaled slowly and released the smoke, his gaze lowered as he leaned back into the sofa with a heavy sigh.
“It’s no wonder she has been rejecting me so many times… it turns out she actually has a man outside that no one knows about,” he murmured to himself in a low voice. “Not even that cunning bastard Darius knows about it… this is ridiculous!”
“How is this even possible? How could even Darius not know about this?” He began to wonder aloud, because it made no sense to him at all; he was puzzled by the situation.
However, one thing was sure: Nyx had managed to hide it very deeply. That made sense of why she continued to reject his advances all the times he pursued her.
“I’ll have to give her a visit soon… I’ll definitely find that bastard whoever is responsible for making her pregnant… I’ll skin him alive for sure.”
“No one can live after touching what is mine… I’ll kill anyone who touches my stuff.” A cold grin spread across his face as he muttered to himself, and the atmosphere became eerily cold inside his room.
Shortly after that, he ordered his people to investigate Nyx and her daughter, dispatching them immediately to get the job done as soon
as possible.
He was losing patience, looking like a ravenous wolf ready to devour anything in his path. And right now, he was hungry for Nyx. Her beauty had captivated him, fueling his obsession to pursue her even after countless rejections.
After receiving his command, his subordinates immediately began their investigation throughout the city, searching for any trace or clue that could lead them to her.
—
Yuan and his wives looked at the bustling city filled with criminals, disdain glimmering in their eyes. Every person here had committed countless heinous crimes.
In their eyes, these people were not human at all but mere garbage polluting the world with corruption.
However, they didn’t care about the lives of those living in this city of sin, nor did they have any desire to eliminate them.
After all, they weren’t heroes who fought for the innocent—it would only waste their time and energy, an utterly irritating job.
“Shall we head to Lady Nyx’s mansion? Or should we look around the city first?” Lily asked, raising her eyebrows as she looked at Yuan.
“I don’t want to roam streets filled with blood and corpses… it’s unsightly,” he replied with an emotionless expression, his eyes filled with disdain.
Soon after, they descended toward Nyx’s mansion, a place tightly guarded by assassins watching the surroundings from every direction.
Yuan and his wives immediately spotted Emma sitting with Nyx on the balcony, sipping tea while enjoying a peaceful moment between mother and daughter.
Suddenly, Emma turned her head toward the sky. Her eyes softened, and a radiant smile bloomed across her face.
“Yuan!!” she exclaimed, instantly standing up from her chair before flying toward them like a rocket.
Yuan couldn’t resist opening his arms wide, embracing her tightly and pulling her closer to him.
“I missed you so much, Emma…” Yuan whispered gently in her ear, his hands tracing teasingly along her back.
“I missed you too, Yuan… I missed you every night, every moment,” she whispered back before pulling his face closer and kissing him passionately on the lips.
Yuan wrapped his arms around her waist as the kiss deepened, savoring the familiar taste and softness of her lips.
Nyx watched the scene with a sweet yet conflicted smile, torn as she witnessed her daughter passionately kiss her own husband.
’I almost forgot the feeling of a kiss… it’s been so long. Seeing my daughter like this… I can’t help but remember my wedding night.’ Nyx thought with a soft blush on her face, which didn’t go unnoticed by Anna Grace and the others.
’It seems that after watching Yuan kiss Emma… something must have stirred within her… perhaps a lingering emotion from her past?’ Anna Grace mused with a sly smile curving her lips.
Once the kiss ended, Emma took Yuan by the hand and led him to her room with a radiant smile, leaving everyone momentarily surprised.
Not long after, faint and sweet laughter echoed from her room, making Nyx blush even more as she realized her daughter’s happiness.
Trying to compose herself, Nyx looked at Anna Grace and the others before leading them to the living area of the mansion, inviting them to sit and relax for a while until Emma and Yuan returned.
Once seated, they began chatting with Nyx to pass the time. Nyx ordered the servants to prepare tea and refreshments for her guests right away.
Since Anna Grace and the others were Emma’s family, she spared no effort in her hospitality, offering every comfort she could and treating them with the utmost respect.
Nearly two hours later, Yuan and Emma emerged from the room. A bright, satisfied smile lingered on Emma’s face, along with a soft blush on her cheeks.
“It seems someone truly enjoyed her time with Yuan… that blush says it all,” Anna Grace teased, flashing a knowing grin that made Emma blush even deeper.
“Indeed. It seems my daughter missed him dearly after being apart for days… no wonder she was so eager to see him,” Nyx added gently, though her own cheeks were tinged with red.
After all, talking about such things in front of everyone was a first-time experience for her, and she couldn’t help but feel a little embarrassed.
“Look at you, Emma. You’re glowing so brightly right now,” Lily teased with a mischievous grin, lightening the mood as laughter rippled through the group.
Leah giggled softly at Lily’s words, her cheeks turning pink. Even Aisha and Angela smiled shyly at the playful teasing that filled the air.
“I-It’s not like that at all… you’re all reading too much into it!” Emma exclaimed with a bright red face before sitting beside her mother and covering her face in embarrassment.
Seeing this, everyone giggled softly. Yuan also joined in the fun, but he was immediately met with a death glare from Emma, making sweat trickle down his back.
The look she gave him was dangerous—almost as though she would drain his blood and leave him as dry as a corpse.
Yuan swallowed nervously, forcing a neutral expression as he quietly sat beside Anna Grace.
Once Yuan was seated on the sofa, Emma looked at him with a serious expression and asked, “Yuan, there’s something I’ve been wondering ever since I heard what happened at the Golden Lion Empire.”
As soon as Emma raised the question, the room’s atmosphere turned slightly tense. Everyone’s gaze shifted toward Yuan, including Mireya, Sylvia, Kitsura, and Vrasha.
Yuan took a deep breath, leaned back against the sofa, and looked at Emma with a faint smile before replying, “Because death is too merciful for someone like her… I want her to feel something worse than death.”
The entire room fell silent after hearing this. Nyx looked at him in disbelief, her lips parting slightly, but no words came out.
After a brief pause, realization dawned on her face, and she finally understood why Yuan had left Princess Lindsey crippled.
He wanted her to suffer a fate worse than death—living the rest of her life unable to stand or act on her own. For anyone with pride, it was a punishment far crueler than dying.
“I see your point… I actually pity her for making an enemy out of someone like you,” Nyx said quietly after a few moments, her tone low and thoughtful, still unsettled by Yuan’s reasoning.
“It’s all her fault. She chose the wrong person to provoke,” Emma replied coldly, her eyes glinting with disdain. “She got exactly what she deserved.”
“Indeed,” Lily agreed with a calm smile.
A few minutes later, the servants arrived with trays of tea, and soon everyone began sipping quietly while chatting.
After a short while, Emma turned toward her mother and asked, “Mom, have you thought about the proposal yet? Have you reached a decision?”
“Ah, about that…” Nyx took a deep breath and leaned back into the sofa, pulling her daughter gently into her arms. “I’ve given it a lot of thought and finally reached a conclusion.”
“And that is?” Emma asked, raising an eyebrow as she looked at her mother from the corner of her eye.
“I’ve decided to come along with you, my dear daughter,” Nyx replied softly, hugging her with a warm smile on her face.
She then held her daughter’s hand and continued, “After reuniting with you, after searching for you for so long, I realized what I truly want from now on. I created this organization only to survive in this cruel world.”
“The world is merciless to the weak. Only the strong can endure… I learned this the hard way after losing you that day. That day became a painful reminder I carry with me every single night.”
“And now, after finding you again, everything has changed. I no longer feel conflicted; in fact, I feel safer and full of energy. After all, the guiding light of my life has returned to me.”
“I will follow you wherever you go, my daughter.” Nyx gently touched Emma’s cheeks, a soft smile gracing her face.
