Chapter 1798: Chapter 1798: When Enemies Meet, There Is No Fury

But according to Wen Gaoren, at least hundreds of thousands of years ago, the Divine Continent already had the existence of transmission points. If it was really a temple, then how exquisite and powerful must the array be for the law aura within it to persist until today?

If it truly was a temple, then why did it disappear? What exactly happened in the former Divine Continent?

"Why is Master Priest asking this, is it not so?" Seeing Han Yan shake her head, Shen Yuhe asked in confusion.

"I don’t know either, never mind, I’m too lazy to think about it. Let’s set up the array." Han Yan said. Those speculations and doubts were just a moment’s curiosity for her, not something she necessarily needed an answer to. After all, it was something from hundreds of thousands of years ago, what did it have to do with her?

"There’s a village nearby, why don’t we rest for the night and head out tomorrow." Sikong Qinglan pointed to the Heavenly Guiding Compass in his hand and said.

"Alright." Han Yan nodded.

According to the star points on the map, there was a village just over ten miles away, while the nearest village around the transmission point was several hundred miles away. In the wilderness of the Divine Continent, it’s not as relaxing to rest as it is on the Holy Court Continent, so they couldn’t miss the opportunity for a good rest.

Sikong Qinglan left a mark at the transmission point, and the group headed toward the village.

The night was hazy, and before long, the outline of a village appeared in view. Although it was already deep into the night, the village was brightly lit, and faintly, there were sounds of panic and children crying in terror.

What’s going on? Han Yan and the others exchanged glances, all a bit surprised.

"The Blood Wind Thieves are here, hand over anything valuable honestly, if you dare hide anything, be careful, my knife doesn’t have eyes!" A wild shout came with the night wind.

"Chen Xuefeng, Blood Wind Thieves!" Shen Yuhe and Sikong Qinglan exclaimed simultaneously.

Han Yan’s eyes lit up, as she had always been curious about the origin of Chen Xuefeng’s martial arts, and that inconspicuous yet remarkably skilled bandit made her feel vaguely uneasy.

The first time the Blood Wind Thieves attacked Mu Family Village, she was there. The second time Xiang Qiuzhan and others invaded Huayue City, she was there too. Han Yan suspected that these two appearances of bandits might both be related to her, or more precisely, related to the Overlord Dragon Armor.

It’s not the thief you fear but the thief’s intention. Against such hidden enemies, Han Yan would never let down her guard. Unfortunately, both times he escaped, and she still didn’t know who he was.

Meeting Chen Xuefeng by chance, perhaps she could uncover some clues from him.

Hundreds of men and women, old and young, were trapped in the center of the village, shivering in fear at the ferocious bandits brandishing sharp blades around them.

"What a lousy village, not a single valuable thing." The bandits kicked open the doors one by one, rummaged around but found nothing worthwhile, and cursed.

This village was called Guning Village, its villagers were descendants of the Gai Family, and unlike Mu Family Village, which was only about a thousand miles from Tianfeng City, Guning Village, though also under Tianfeng City’s jurisdiction, was nearly ten thousand miles from the main city. The barrier of their fief was far inferior to that of Mu Family Village, living just slightly better than refugees, so where would any surplus wealth come from?

Behind them, Chen Xuefeng, sitting atop his Red Charcoal Cloud Smoke Beast, had a disgruntled expression.

The defeat at Mu Family Village was catastrophic; many of his bandits were killed or injured, and his prestige plummeted. Most of his forces became disloyal and dispersed, and the remaining small part was gravely wounded under the suppression of other bandits, leaving him with only a dozen or so loyal subordinates.

This was normal; amongst bandits, it was also survival of the fittest. One less powerful opponent meant one more chance for survival. Seeing Chen Xuefeng’s power dwindling, how could other bandits pass up the chance to eliminate him completely? For several months, Chen Xuefeng had led these dozen men through a life of hiding, evading the temple’s hunts, and escaping the encirclement of other bandits, living an existence teetering between life and death.

"Mu Family Village, Mu Family Village!" Looking at his men, who had journeyed so much they were as thin as skeletons, Chen Xuefeng clenched his fist, his eyes flashing with blood-red hatred.

Sooner or later, he would kill everyone in Mu Family Village! Chen Xuefeng vowed through gritted teeth.

"First, let’s get some rations back." Chen Xuefeng relaxed his fist and ordered.

Revenge could wait; the urgent task was to fill their stomachs first.

He had long known there was nothing to gain from Guning Village, but they were almost starving to death, so how could they care about profit now? Having finally found a gap to act amidst other bandits’ hunts, they couldn’t return empty-handed.

The bandits understood the urgency, knowing that if temple priests or other bandits came upon them, they wouldn’t even have their lives, so they stopped complaining. They swept away the remaining few rations from each household and slaughtered and took away a few pigs and sheep they had.

"Master, I beg you to leave a way for the Gai family to survive." The old clan leader staggered out of the crowd, knelt, and pleaded with Chen Xuefeng.

The Blood Wind Thieves had struck too hard, leaving no rations at all. How were they supposed to survive? Gai Family Village was far from Feng City Temple, and by the time they sought temporary refuge in the city, they’d starve to death on the road.

"Stop talking nonsense, get lost!" Chen Xuefeng kicked the old clan leader, sending him tumbling, spitting blood and sprawling on the ground.

"Clan Leader!" Several clansmen hurried up to help the clan leader, staring at Chen Xuefeng with an expression of grief and indignation.

"We’re bound to die anyway, we might as well fight them." Someone shouted.

"Fight them, fight them!" Hundreds of villagers shouted in unison.

They were going to die sooner or later anyway, so they decided to go for broke.

With shouts of anger, dozens of young and strong men rushed at Chen Xuefeng first.

"They really dare seek death, kill them all, leave none alive." Chen Xuefeng said coldly.

Originally, he intended to spare these villagers, not because he had a change of heart, but because he feared thoroughly angering Feng City Temple. Now, he was no longer powerful and faced the encirclement and suppression by other bandits. If Feng City Temple were to dispatch many priests without hesitation, he wouldn’t even have a chance to play hide-and-seek.

However, the scene before him reminded him of the disastrous defeat at Mu Family Village, and the suppressed hatred and anger within him erupted like a volcano.

"Kill!" For months, these bandits had been like street rats, hunted and hiding, filled with frustration. Knowing what Chen Xuefeng was wary of, they held back the urge for a massacre. Now, having seen Chen Xuefeng’s anger, they let out wild cries and charged at the group of defenseless villagers.

In an instant, murderous intent permeated the air, and the night wind seemed to turn much colder.

Watching the defenseless civilians opposite him, a cold smile crossed Chen Xuefeng’s lips. As the saying goes, a starved camel is still bigger than a horse. Even though his men were weary from constant travel, their killing aura was nothing a group of villagers could compare to.

"Stop!" As the parties were closing in on each other, about to spill blood on the spot, a cold shout rang out.

Almost simultaneously, as the voice sounded, a tall and strong figure leapt up, slashing with a butcher’s knife mid-air.

"Ah!" The bandit at the forefront let out a heartrending scream and flew backward, blood raining from him.

The sudden change took both villagers and Blood Wind Thieves by surprise, halting them simultaneously.

"Who are you!" Chen Xuefeng exclaimed in shock.

"Chen Xuefeng, we meet again!" Two figures stood before the villagers.

"You again!" Chen Xuefeng’s pupils narrowed sharply.

Although Han Yan had changed into a priest robe, he recognized her at once.

It’s said enemies meeting is especially eye-catching, but now he wasn’t eye-catching at all, only deep fear in his eyes.
