Even though she was curious, Cecilia Vaughn was too worried about Adrian Law’s injury to bring it up for now.

She looked earnestly at Zion Prescott, who was holding a medical kit.

"Doctor Prescott, should we remove the bullet from Adrian’s shoulder now, or would it be safer to wait until we get back to Prescott Hospital?"

"Let’s do it here."

Zion Prescott nodded nonchalantly and then cast a rather strange glance at Adrian Law.

"Someone was hoping to take out the bullet while you were asleep, but now that you’re awake, sis-in-law, do you want to step out for a bit?"

Cecilia bit her lip, casting a reproachful look at Adrian.

"Were you planning not to tell me you were injured?"

Even though her heart was moved by Adrian’s thoughtfulness and care, Cecilia wished he wouldn’t keep such life-and-death matters from her.

She had long said she didn’t want to be a parasitic vine clinging to a tall tree, but instead a towering tree herself, sheltering those around her. The road ahead was long, and it’s impossible for one person to bear every burden alone.

...

Adrian looked at his little wife’s resentful eyes and felt a sweetness within.

He curved his lips slightly, then shook his head at Cecilia.

"Cecilia, it’s nothing. Back when Zion and I were in the tropical jungles of South Africa, we encountered situations far more dangerous than this, sometimes without even the medical facilities we have now."

"..."

Rather than easing her worries, Adrian’s words only made Cecilia feel more heartache and blame.

"Circumstances change. What if it was just luck back then?"

"Ahem, ahem..."

Zion gave a couple of low coughs.

Felix Lockwood raised his charming eyes and looked at Cecilia in a profoundly subtle way, even adding fuel to the fire.

"Sis-in-law, isn’t what you said questioning The Great Prescott’s medical skills?"

"..."

Cecilia was suddenly at a loss for words.

Her face flushed with embarrassment, though she knew Zion wasn’t like that, she still added a quick explanation.

"Doctor Prescott, I didn’t mean it that way. I just think it’s best to capitalize on strengths and avoid weaknesses. There’s no need to suffer through harder times if we have better medical conditions, right?"

"Sis-in-law makes a good point."

Zion nodded simply, then looked at Adrian with a teasing smile.

"Brother, it seems sis-in-law doesn’t want to leave. I also don’t have any anesthetics here. What if things get too bloody, or you’re in unbearable pain and she sees and gets traumatized?"

"..."

Adrian was caught between amusement and exasperation by the teasing looks of his two good brothers.

"It’s okay, Cecilia, if you insist on staying, it’s fine, but whatever happens, you mustn’t get upset or scream."

"Of course I won’t..."

Cecilia was about to promise to stay calm, but thinking about the bullet removal, she knew she couldn’t really stay calm.

The pain in Adrian’s body was like a knife in her heart.

Cecilia felt a pang of sadness but ultimately stood silently by Adrian’s side, unwilling to speak out and stubbornly refusing to leave.

...

Cecilia had missed Adrian’s earlier years, never knowing the life he lived on the edge of a knife. But to her, being part of his life now, whether it’s sweetness, bitterness, sorrow, or joy, is something she’s willing to share with Adrian.

"Doctor Prescott, go ahead. I’ll do my best not to disturb you."

Cecilia dared not make a full promise, but she understood that what she did might put pressure on Adrian.

Just as Cecilia hesitated to leave for Adrian’s safety, the man seemed to notice her thoughts and gently waved her over.

"Cecilia, I need the bullet removed from my back, just sit in front of me. Looking at you will make me feel more at ease; no painkiller is as effective as you."

"..."

Cecilia didn’t know whether to feel happy or sad at this.

Only Felix, with his carefree nature, laughed and joked a couple of times.

"Oh brother, since marrying sis-in-law, you’ve turned into quite the Prince Charming with your sweet words. You used to be an iceberg, someone actually melted you, amazing."

"If you’re envious, you should marry someone too."

Adrian’s voice was faint.

"If I’m not mistaken, your grandfather has long been looking for a marriage alliance for you."

Felix immediately fell silent, his face turning red and white, eager to change the topic.

"Let’s not talk about that killjoy topic. I’m not lucky enough to marry a beauty like sis-in-law."

"Well, it’s good you have self-awareness."

Before the surgery began, Adrian didn’t forget to retort Felix once more.

Felix: "???"

With a helpless look, Felix felt that only he found this unfair, while everyone else thought it was perfectly normal. Felix was crestfallen.

Being treated as a brother like this, how can life go on!

...

Felix was sulking inside, but he knew this was trivial. After Zion announced the start of the surgery, he immediately let go of all other thoughts and dared not joke anymore.

Sitting on pins and needles, he clenched his teeth and didn’t dare to exhale loudly.

Adrian’s clothes had already been cut open by Zion’s scissors.

Cecilia immediately saw the man’s blood-soaked back.

Initially seeing Adrian in his suit, she thought the injuries weren’t serious, but seeing the situation now—though Adrian had done some simple bandaging—the blood had soaked the white gauze throughout, making the severity of the wound terribly clear.

...

Cecilia’s eyes reddened instantly.

She covered her mouth tightly, not daring to make a sound, afraid of distracting Adrian and Zion.

"Cecilia, don’t be afraid."

Even now, Adrian managed to offer her a soft smile, like flowing clouds and water. If not for the scars on his shoulders, Cecilia might have been comforted.

Why are those Trent Family members so cruel?!

Cecilia had never hated them as much as she did now!

She didn’t know how Adrian dealt with them, but at this moment, she wished Old Mrs. Trent would go directly to the eighteenth level of hell!

...

The surgery was progressing rapidly and intensely.

Zion held an unknown sharp tool and slowly pierced downwards along the man’s skin...

In an instant, more blood gushed out...
