Mr. CEO's Substitute Bride
Chapter 1575 - 1566: Wherever Our Eyes Meet, It Is Eternal: Watching a Movie Together
"Daxton, I... didn’t mean it."
Realizing she had misspoken, Violet Zimmerman immediately tried to explain, though it was already too late to take back her words.
Daxton Lancaster was infertile, yet she said those things...
"I know, hurry up and eat it, or it’ll melt."
Daxton subtly curled his lips, gently patted Violet Zimmerman on the shoulder, withdrew his arm that had been around her, and sat up.
"I’ll go next door for a smoke, be back soon."
Watching Daxton Lancaster’s departing figure, Violet Zimmerman felt inside that she had hurt him earlier.
The next day after lunch, Violet Zimmerman dressed meticulously, changed into the new wool sweater that Daxton Lancaster had bought, and wore her aviation cotton gloves. She called the family driver to take her to the movie theater.
She found her seat according to the number on her ticket, the middle number in the twentieth row, the perfect angle for watching.
It was only a few minutes before showtime, and the theater was nearly full. Violet Zimmerman smiled at the person on the furthest side, apologetically saying, "Excuse me, may I get through?"
The man glanced at her, pulled back his legs, and Violet Zimmerman nodded apologetically all the way to her seat.
Sitting down, she exhaled deeply; since marrying Daxton Lancaster, they hadn’t been to a movie theater together.
Violet had just settled into her seat when a bell rang next to her, and the lights in the cinema went out.
Watching a movie alone, for some reason, Violet felt a bit tense. On her right, a young couple started cracking sunflower seeds as soon as the lights dimmed.
The seat on her left was empty, with a man in his thirties in the distance across the empty seat...
She subtly glanced from side to side, silently taking a deep breath.
She felt a bit regretful, wishing she’d brought some snacks to pass the time.
Before the main feature, a documentary played for about ten minutes.
A magnetic voice narrated the benefits of garlic. As the light slowly became clearer, the fear in Violet’s heart was no longer as intense; meanwhile, the person in the empty seat next to her seemed to have timed their arrival precisely.
Just as a subtitle from the scene of a specific movie appeared on the big screen, a man walked in.
Bending his body, trying not to block the view of the audience behind him, he politely said, "Excuse me," as he moved in.
When the man reached Violet’s side, he didn’t say "Excuse me," instead he lightly tapped her leg. Startled by the stranger’s touch, Violet’s eyes widened in a slight panic, and she saw a familiar face.
"Joseph?"
Violet exclaimed in surprise, Joseph Lancaster had already put his index finger to his lips, "Shh," he whispered, then softly said, "Let me through."
Mechanically, Violet shifted her body, moving her legs aside, allowing the man to plop himself down. With faint light reflecting on Joseph’s face, Violet noticed a smile across the face of her brother-in-law.
"Why are you here?" Violet quietly asked, lowering her voice, and her wrist tightened, held by Joseph Lancaster.
Joseph’s gaze was still fixed on the big screen, whispering, "Don’t talk, the audience will get upset."
Violet turned her head back to the screen, exhaling deeply, aware of her wrist still being held by Joseph. She discreetly withdrew it.
Joseph didn’t insist, sitting properly and concentrating on the film.
Showing on the big screen was a detective film; from the beginning, the soundtrack created tension within the scenes. On a stormy night, a Flying Tiger Claw mounted the high walls of an embassy from a certain country. As the intense music played, the theater was filled with women’s gasps.
Violet was no different, letting out an "Ah" and covering her eyes in shock.
