Chapter 579: Chapter 568: Epilogue (6)

The three children opened the door and ran to Fatty’s mother’s apartment. They saw Fatty’s mother standing by the window, dumbfounded. When they gathered around, they saw a naked man lying on the ground outside.

He had obviously just jumped from the window, as his pained cries could be heard from below.

Since it was only the second floor, he was able to snatch his clothes and run after landing.

After seeing him get into a car, Fatty’s mother, still in her pajamas, hurriedly peeked outside. She scanned the area, but there was no sign of her husband.

She immediately turned on Fatty and scolded him, “Weren’t you just shouting outside that your father was home? Where is he?”

Fatty explained, “Dad told me to say it. He said he’d be home any minute.”

Fatty’s mother looked at him. “When your dad gets back, you keep your mouth shut. Don’t you dare say a word. You absolutely cannot tell him King was here.”

“But I already told Dad.”

Hearing this, Fatty’s mother smacked him on the head. “You little bastard!”

Fatty pouted. Just then, the doorbell rang, and Fatty turned to get it.

Fatty’s father appeared at the entrance. The moment he came in, his eyes darted toward the bedroom.

Then he confronted Fatty’s mother. “So, your lover got away?”

Of course, Fatty’s mother denied it. “What lover? I have no idea what you’re talking about.”

“You have no idea? Then who was that naked man who just jumped out our window?” Fatty’s father was livid. He slapped her hard across the face. “You whore!”

Fatty’s mother broke down in tears, glaring back at his father. “How dare you say that to me? You use your ‘business trips’ as an excuse to fool around with your female subordinate!”

The two adults immediately flew into a brawl.

Fatty stood by the door, wiping his eyes. Dylan Grant glanced over and saw tears rolling down his face.

He then turned and ran out of the apartment.

Dylan Grant and Dorothy Ellsworth quickly ran after him.

Fatty ran out of the building and sat on a bench in the complex, where he began to sob.

Dorothy Ellsworth sat beside him. “Fatty, please don’t cry.”

With tears blurring his vision, Fatty nodded, then looked down and fidgeted with his fingers.

Dylan Grant spoke up. “You really hate it when your mommy and daddy fight, don’t you?”

Fatty nodded. “Of course. But they fight constantly. Dylan, what should I do?”

Dylan Grant thought for a moment, then whispered something in Fatty’s ear. Fatty looked skeptical. “Will that really work?”

Dylan Grant nodded. “Of course. Trust me. I guarantee they’ll never dare to fight in front of you again.”

Fatty stood up and took Dylan Grant’s hand. “Okay, I’ll do what you say.”

The three friends went to Dylan Grant’s house together.

As they walked through the gate, Fatty exclaimed, “Wow, Dylan, this Luminous Pearl in your yard is huge! It must have cost a fortune, right?”

Dylan glanced at it. “I don’t know how much it cost. I think it was here before I was even born.”

Fatty glanced around. “Your yard is enormous! I can’t even see the other side.”

“Well, yeah. That’s because my family has the Blackguard.”

When the three friends got to the living room, Fatty was stunned yet again.

“My dad says your dad is his boss. Looks like your family really is loaded.”

Dylan Grant smiled. “We’re just average, I guess. Come on in, Fatty.”

Nora Ainsworth saw the three of them enter and said, “Oh, Fatty and Dorothy are here.”

“Hello, Auntie Director,” Fatty said, being uncharacteristically polite.

Nora Ainsworth smiled. “Hello to you too. Fatty, Dorothy, please sit down. If you want anything to eat, just ask Dylan to get it for you. There are all sorts of ice cream flavors in the fridge, so help yourselves. Just don’t have too much, or you might get a tummy ache.”

Fatty nodded. “Thank you, Auntie.”

Then, as he watched Nora Ainsworth carry a tray upstairs, he lowered his head and whispered to Dylan, “Dylan, your mom is really nice. Way better than mine. My mom just yells at me, scolds me, or hits me all day.”

Dorothy Ellsworth nodded in agreement. “My aunt is very good-natured. I’ve never seen her hit Dylan or Elmer.”

“Every mom loves her own kids, Fatty. Your mom probably just has a short fuse. She and your dad probably aren’t getting along, and that’s why she takes it out on you. As their son, you can’t add fuel to the fire. I think you should have a serious talk with them and tell them how you feel.”

Fatty nodded. “Yeah… Hearing you say that makes me think I should talk to them when I get home.”

Dylan Grant got up, took three ice creams from the fridge, and handed one to each of his friends, unwrapping one for himself.

Then, he switched the TV to the kids’ channel.

The three children sat on the sofa, watching cartoons.

A little while later, Elmer Grant came downstairs.

“Oh, Fatty’s here too.”

“Hey, Elmer.”

Elmer Grant grabbed a slice of mousse cake and sat down on the sofa to eat it.

As the program on the kids’ channel was ending, the host said to the camera, “Alright, kids, I have a question for you today: Which came first, the chicken or the egg? You can text your answers to 8888888. And with that, our show is over for today! See you all tomorrow, kids!”

“Elmer, which came first, the chicken or the egg?”

Elmer answered in a deep voice, “Actually, that question is just like asking who comes first, the father or the son.”

“Obviously the father, then the son.”

Fatty disagreed. “I think the son comes first, and then the father.”

The other three stared at him, wide-eyed, not understanding his reasoning.

Fatty explained calmly, “Because a man is only called a ‘father’ after the mother gives birth to his son.”

“We’re talking about the chicken and the egg,” Dylan Grant corrected.

“It must be the egg,” Elmer Grant said. “Because chickens come out of eggshells. That’s what I think.”

Dylan Grant looked at Dorothy Ellsworth. “Dorothy, what do you think?”

“I agree with Elmer.”

“Me too,” Fatty chimed in.

But Dylan Grant said, “My answer is the opposite of yours, because that’s been disproven. The chicken came first, then the egg. Scientists have already confirmed it. They discovered a protein that helps form the eggshell, and it only exists in a chicken’s ovaries. Scientists found this protein, OC-17, and guessed it was related to how eggs are formed. But after more detailed research, they finally figured out how it controls the whole process. All birds seem to have a protein like OC-17 to form their eggshells. Without that OC-17 protein, you can’t have an eggshell. And without a shell, the yolk and the liquid that protects the chick have nowhere to live. So, if you don’t have the OC-17 protein from a chicken’s ovary, you can’t possibly have a chicken egg. Therefore, the chicken definitely came first.”

Dorothy Ellsworth cheered, “Then let’s text them the answer!”

Dylan Grant shook his head. “It’s enough that we know the answer. Why bother texting? It costs two yuan per text. That’s just giving the TV station free money. For two yuan, a kid in the mountains could have a meal. So, from now on, if someone asks us this question, we can just tell them it’s definitely the chicken before the egg. We may not have read a ton of books, but that doesn’t mean people can fool us by saying the egg came first.”
