Chapter 210: Chapter 209: Hand-picked Subordinates
Huo Yunjing floated back.
Gu Qingyin looked at him and raised an eyebrow in a silent question.
Huo Yunjing cleared his throat. "Our son is awake."
Gu Qingyin blinked in confusion. ’He’s awake, so what? Why does he look so guilty?’ But the current situation didn’t allow for many questions, so she had to put it aside for now.
The night was a little cold. Gu Qingyin pulled on a crewneck sweatshirt, slipped on a pair of combat boots, and slung her ever-present small satchel over her shoulder, a Fire Burning Stick clutched in her hand.
The moment the tent was slashed open with a military knife, she kicked out.
The person outside the tent was sent flying. He landed on the ground and was knocked out cold, only managing to let out a muffled grunt in the process.
Silence fell over the area as a chill ran down everyone’s spines.
The one who got kicked was a Werewolf! A fairly pure-blooded one, at that. His defense was considered upper-mid-tier among their group, yet he was knocked out in the first exchange? And they hadn’t even seen the enemy’s face!
Their leader, Lin Wu, narrowed his eyes. He guessed the attacker must be Gu Qingyin; no one else should have this kind of power.
He made a hand signal, motioning for his men to secure Chad and the person in the other tent first.
The others exchanged a look and cautiously approached the other tent. As for Chad... they didn’t move him at all, simply holding him at gunpoint.
Their unlucky comrade was dragged into a corner. They weren’t too concerned about him; they were mostly just worried he’d get in the way.
Three Werewolves approached the tent in a triangular formation. Before they could make a move, a Fireball shot out from inside, striking the Werewolf in the center. Upon impact, it split in two and shot toward the Werewolves on either side.
Amid the chaos, a triumphant "YES!" rang out from inside the tent.
From the crowd, a middle-aged man stepped forward. With a grim expression, he threw two talismans, which shot toward the tent like sharp arrows.
The moment they left his hand, the talismans erupted in a blinding, orange-red light. They were clearly offensive talismans of the Fire attribute, and they looked quite powerful.
Unfortunately, they were intercepted midway—or, to be precise, by a ghost.
There were only three Heavenly Masters present. Only Lin Wu, who had his Yin Yang Eye open, saw what happened clearly. The others were completely baffled.
Lin Wu took a wary step back. He knew of Huo Yunjing and his considerable power, but he believed that since Huo Yunjing was a ghost, he would ultimately be suppressed by a Heavenly Master, no matter how strong he was.
But he didn’t know that the information he’d gotten from Dongfang Ran was already far too outdated.
Huo Yunjing’s power had already jumped several levels. Compared to the Ghost King who dominated the realm in his past life, the only thing he lacked was the legendary, awe-inspiring reputation.
"What’s going on?"
The Werewolves looked at each other, all thinking that the Heavenly Masters were unreliable. It was like they were performing magic tricks—all flash and no substance.
"Let us handle this."
The Werewolves all took a step forward in unison and began riddling the tents with gunfire. It wasn’t just Huo Xingchen’s; Gu Qingyin’s tent wasn’t spared either.
The dense gunfire finally jolted the sleeping Chad awake. He shot his eyes open to see several dark muzzles of guns pointed at him.
He jerked his head up in terror and met the eyes of the Werewolf holding the gun. The Werewolf mouthed two words: "Don’t move."
Chad: ’...Am I still dreaming?’
With that thought, Chad tilted his head, closed his eyes, and went back to sleep.
The Werewolf: ???
The gunfire lasted for a full minute. The entire campsite was filled with the smell of smoke. The Werewolves smiled confidently. "The people inside must have been turned to pulp."
"This mission is way too easy."
"The Young Master was too cautious, sending so many of us."
"Now we just have to get rid of Chad, and the mission is over."
...
Chad, who was only pretending to be asleep, was panicking. ’Did Gu Qingyin and the others really get gunned down?’
Lin Wu watched the group of Werewolves with cold eyes, cursing them as idiots in his mind. ’Was Gu Qingyin someone who could be dealt with so easily? For that entire minute, Huo Yunjing just stood there motionlessly, staring right at me!’
Fortunately, not all the Werewolves were so useless.
"Do you guys smell blood?"
As soon as this was said, the entire area fell silent.
A Werewolf’s sense of smell is keen. Even with the heavy scent of gunpowder, it would be impossible for them not to smell a single trace of blood—unless no one had bled at all.
"How is that possible..."
The Werewolves couldn’t believe it, but with practiced discipline, they raised their guns again, aimed at the tattered tents, and cautiously advanced step by step.
Lin Wu’s expression tightened. "Get back! Don’t go near them!"
The Werewolves paused but didn’t retreat immediately. And then... a dense shower of steel nails shot out from Gu Qingyin’s tent. Their speed was nearly comparable to bullets, and they even seemed to have a guidance system, as every single one accurately embedded itself into the Werewolves’ bodies.
For a moment, screams of agony rose and fell one after another.
The remaining Werewolves retreated cautiously. The wolf’s blood in their veins boiled as their pupils, teeth, and palms began to transform, and even their body hair grew thicker.
But that wasn’t all.
After the screams, claps of thunder echoed from the other tent. Wrist-thick bolts of lightning descended from thin air, and not a single one missed its mark.
These two waves of counterattacks came swiftly and unexpectedly. They were impossible to dodge because they were over just as quickly, and the results were devastating.
After the brief chaos, the smell of blood and burnt flesh mingled in the campsite. Combined with the current scene, it was nauseating.
"Ah, how disgusting," a calm female voice drifted from the tent. "Instead of sleeping in the middle of the night, you come to raid someone else’s camp. If you get killed, you have only yourselves to blame."
The Werewolves didn’t dare get closer, but the two Heavenly Masters besides Lin Wu weren’t afraid. ’It’s just a talisman attack, right? Who can’t do that?’
One of the Heavenly Masters took out a talisman and, full of confidence, threw it to activate it.
This was a Lock God Talisman. Once activated, anyone or any ghost within a three-meter radius would be trapped!
Huh?
Gu Qingyin sensed a familiar aura and, feeling a little curious, didn’t bother to dodge.
The Lock God Talisman fell without issue, enveloping the tent perfectly.
That Heavenly Master smirked. "I thought she was so tough. Turns out the Werewolves are just useless."
The other Heavenly Master also laughed. "I told you we should have just handled this mission ourselves. These stupid Werewolves are just dragging us down."
Lin Wu was full of doubt and suspicion. ’Could Gu Qingyin really be trapped so easily?’ He glanced at Huo Yunjing again.
Huo Yunjing was still staring at him with those cold eyes, as if he would rush over and tear him limb from limb if he made the slightest move.
The Werewolves couldn’t understand the Chinese they were speaking, but they could tell from their expressions that it wasn’t anything good. The Werewolves’ faces darkened as they watched them coldly.
Gu Qingyin sat calmly within the Lock God Talisman, marveling in amusement. "So pathetic, and yet you’re already infighting! How exactly did your master ’carefully select’ you to join his ranks? You have no power and no brains! Tsk, tsk, tsk, impressive!"
The two Heavenly Masters choked, their expressions turning extremely ugly.
"Hmph, all you can do now is run your mouth."
Gu Qingyin said, "I can do more than run my mouth. I can also wield a stick."
As she spoke, she tapped her stick out several times. The Lock God Talisman, which had been as impenetrable as a fortress, suddenly rippled and then, with a POP, burst like a soap bubble.
"How is that possible!"
Gu Qingyin stood up and swatted away the remains of the tent above her with her stick. She smiled sweetly and said, "Using my own original talisman against me... I have no idea what was going through those brilliant minds of yours."
That’s right. The Lock God Talisman was the same immobilization talisman that Gu Qingyin had sold to the Mystic Association last time. It just hadn’t been named back then.
