Chapter 3206: Chapter 1083: Population Expansion
Generally speaking, the reason Heavenly Eye Users and Demi-humans live in separate patches of Territory, aside from their innate tendency toward group living that drives them to gather on their own, the main factor that actually creates that pattern is still the sheer number of beasts roaming the Wilderness in that era of that world. Among those beasts, the Heavenly Eye Beasts, although inferior to Heavenly Eye Users in Single combat, once it comes to group Combat, by relying on their overwhelming numerical advantage, often force Heavenly Eye Users into at best a Pyrrhic victory even when they manage to Win.
Thus, it was precisely because of the Threat posed by those Heavenly Eye Beasts that large numbers of Heavenly Eye Users at that time had no choice but to choose to cluster together to survive. As a result, even though many Heavenly Eye Users gathered together and formed numerous forces of various sizes, with many new gathering points appearing every year, there were also quite a few regions where large numbers of Heavenly Eye Users and Demi-humans had clustered that ended up being Attacked and Broken by Heavenly Eye Beasts.
One could say that Heavenly Eye Beasts were practically natural enemies to Heavenly Eye Users.
And under circumstances where Heavenly Eye Beasts posed such a great Threat to those Heavenly Eye Users, in normal times those Heavenly Eye Users, for the sake of self-preservation, rarely took the initiative to run out into the Wilderness. If they happened to encounter an assault by Heavenly Eye Beasts, most Heavenly Eye Users of that era could only barely beat them back by relying on pre-prepared Defense Works.
In such a situation, when Zhou Tian was engaging those forces in Combat, it would of course be best if they could Win within a short time. But once Zhou Tian and his side failed to Win quickly, then leaving aside whether Zhou Tian’s rear could remain secure, even during the very exchange of blows between the two sides, it was entirely possible that they would attract large numbers of Heavenly Eye Beasts.
If that scenario were to truly occur, although the forces in that region would certainly not have a good time of it, likewise, Zhou Tian’s Team out in the Wilderness would face even greater Danger. In the end, with that many Heavenly Eye Beasts locking onto them, whether Zhou Tian’s group could retreat alive would become a Problem in itself.
Therefore, given the special circumstances of that world at the time, those forces naturally believed that, as long as they could hold out for a while under Zhou Tian’s offensive at that moment, then once large numbers of Heavenly Eye Beasts were drawn in, Zhou Tian’s side would not only have to give up any thought of occupying their Territory, but would even end up losing their own Lives there.
Thus, as long as Zhou Tian took that potential situation into account, then given that he was unable to seize that region within a short period of time, he ought by rights to choose to withdraw at that point. It was precisely because those forces at the time believed that, standing in Zhou Tian’s Position, he could not possibly fail to retreat, that no matter how powerful a strength Zhou Tian might display, as long as they had not completely lost their Resistance Ability, those forces all believed they had some Method of forcing Zhou Tian to pull back.
In the end, it was exactly because those forces always thought they possessed the Ability to force Zhou Tian’s retreat that, regardless of how astonishingly Zhou Tian’s Heavenly Eye Users performed at the time, when facing the advance of Zhou Tian’s side, they still did not truly regard this suddenly appearing group of Enemies as anything serious.
And in fact, after seeing the Performance of those Heavenly Eye Users, Zhou Tian really did choose not to launch a forcible assault on the opposing defense line.
After all, although those forces had just undergone a defeat, the Loss that defeat inflicted on them was actually quite limited. At that moment, to claim that those forces no longer had any Resistance to his Invasion would have been something even Zhou Tian himself would not believe.
And given the situation at the time, since that group of Heavenly Eye Users possessed the Ability to oppose Zhou Tian, then if Zhou Tian were now to simply send his Heavenly Eye Users to directly attack the enemy defense line, leaving aside whether his subordinates could ultimately Attack and Break that defense line, the casualties that such an action would cause were something Zhou Tian had no way of accepting.
The reason Zhou Tian had initiated that War was that from beginning to end he had never thought about occupying the enemy Territory. After all, given the circumstances of that world, the Territory held by Heavenly Eye Users had always been small. If Zhou Tian truly wanted to expand his Territory, he only needed to spread outward from his original Territory. As long as he could block the assaults of those Heavenly Eye Beasts, then no matter how much Territory Zhou Tian wanted to expand to at that time, it would not be a Problem.
It was just that, quite obviously, the enlargement of Territory did not hold much significance for Zhou Tian. Because once the Territory grows, especially in a case like Zhou Tian’s current situation, where he occupies scattered spots within a large area, the Pressure he would face from Heavenly Eye Beast attacks would be anything but small.
Without a doubt, even given Zhou Tian’s current level of strength, if he were to continually face large-scale Heavenly Eye Beast attacks just because of occupying more Territory, then even with his strength, he likely would still not have the Ability to hold the Territory he occupied.
At the same time, the increase of Territory would not bring much Help to Zhou Tian. Thus, if Zhou Tian at that time had truly been acting for the sake of Territory, he fundamentally could not possibly have launched this War.
The reason he chose to carry out the Invasion of that region back then was that Zhou Tian’s objective from start to finish was only one thing: to find a Method to increase the population under his control, especially the number of Heavenly Eye Users.
Because in light of Zhou Tian’s ultimate goal and plan, he would need a large number of Heavenly Eye Users to serve him. After occupying one region and discovering that the Heavenly Eye Users in his hands were somewhat insufficient, only then did Zhou Tian launch this Invasion War, hoping to use the Tactics of Annexation of other regions to increase the number of Heavenly Eye Users under his command.
