Mated To My Best Friend's Lycan Alpha Brothers
Chapter 600: Suspicious Circumstances
(Author’s POV)
"Sir Jared, did he say anything?" Dion asked, pointing his chin at a battered, limp Shaun Hart.
"Yes~ .... he finally did," the keepers’ unit lead commando replied. "He confessed his sins of intentionally attacking his majesty."
The brothers were stunned by his reply. "And what exactly did he say? Why did he do that?" Dion pried further.
"He said he was annoyed by his majesty favouring a human over his own race. He didn’t agree with letting a human lead the honourable vampire clan. So, that’s why he did it," Jared said, his voice sharp.
"Did he name any accomplice?" Alaric asked this time.
"No, he said he did it by himself. No one was involved," Jared replied.
Alaric’s eyes narrowed as Alex commented, ’A newbie clan leader dared to harm the king in broad daylight in his own territory, and no one helped him. That raises alarm bells. I don’t believe this.’
"Did something unusual happen after we left? Or did someone unauthorized try to enter and meet Shaun in the dungeon?" Alaric questioned.
"No, Young Alphas. No unauthorized personnel came in, nor did anything unusual happen," the commando of the keepers’ unit answered. "These two guards and I were present all the time. And Secretary Shadow visited for a brief moment."
"Chris Shadow came?" Dion’s right brow arched with suspicion.
"Yes, he came to check whether he had confessed to his crimes or not and relay the news about the young master’s passing," Jared uttered, his face expressionless. However, his voice held a slight emotion.
"What will happen to him now?" Dion inquired.
"His sentence has been set. Tomorrow, at 9 am, death by tearing his body parts and burning them afterwards in front of all the clan leaders. As for the Blood Lunar Clan, it will be dismantled completely, and the clan members will be sent to work for other clans," Jared answered, emotionless. As soon as he finished, Shaun grunted, the sound filled with agonizing pain.
They all looked down at him. He opened his heavily swollen eyes, gazed at the brothers and Jared, and started murmuring something. But they couldn’t hear his words clearly.
Dion bent down and lifted his chin, then asked, "Shaun Hart~ .... did you really scheme it all alone? Answer me honestly, and name the mastermind. I might plead a lenient sentence for you and your clan members."
Shaun remained silent for five seconds; his gaze piercing, fixated on the young Alpha. Then he spat in Dion’s face, though it failed, "Fuck you and your leniency. I want neither. I admit it~ .... I did it. I did it all. I was the one who tried to kill that senile king, Jacob Larson. What else should I have done? He wanted to crown that filthy human, Fabian and ignore all of the vampires. It’s good that rat died. They both deserve it~ .... that mutt deserved to die. Hahaha~ .... ahahhhahahahaha," saying this, he started laughing like a maniac.
Jared kicked him in the stomach, mercilessly. Shaun rolled back, growling in immense pain, but he still didn’t stop laughing. He had turned into a complete madman.
The two guards held him and started beating him with spiked, iron nailed wooden rods. Yet, he continued with his chanting, "They deserve it~ .... they deserve to rot in hell. Haha ahahaha~ ... hahaha~ .... Hahaha~ ....," until he passed out.
After hearing and watching everything with their own eyes, Alaric and Dion returned to Alaric’s room. Once the door was securely shut, Dion started, "Something is definitely not right. Don’t you think something is amiss?"
Alaric didn’t say anything, just nodded in agreement.
"How can Shaun, who was adamant that he didn’t do it, confess out of the blue? And Fabian’s death- it’s suspicious as well," Dion laid out his doubts. He then remarked, "And also, Al, don’t you find Chris Shadow’s involvement strange? In both cases, he is somehow implicated. Plus, the sudden change in his attitude. He behaves like a completely different person."
Alaric walked to the window, his mind racing with complicated thoughts. Glancing out at the descending moon, he uttered, "We will have to check the security footage ourselves."
Dion agreed. He then asked, "About Fabian’s death~ .... should we~ .... should we inform Rave and Eli about it?"
Brave and Elio didn’t have phones, so they could only be informed via mindlink. But from what happened earlier- Myra being able to hear Alaric’s mindlink- it was a risky move. If she knew about that Fabian had passed away, she would come running into a territory full of hostile and irked vampires.
Alaric understood his brother’s concern and immediately said, "No, don’t say anything to them right now." Dion hummed.
After changing their clothes, they went back to see Jacob, who was still in his deep slumber.
Chris Shadow was still in his room, as if guarding him. When he saw them, he asked, his tone peculiar, almost taunting, "Ohh~ ... it’s the young Alphas. Why did you come at this hour?"
"Do we need your permission to visit Chairman Larson?" Alaric asked, his sapphires zeroed on Chris. He then said, "We need to check the security footage for the dungeon and the operating room."
"Why?" Chris’s question came unusually fast.
"We want to confirm something," Dion said.
"I already checked. There was nothing wrong," Chris muttered.
"If there was nothing wrong, what’s the problem with us checking it? Your king himself gave us the authority to investigate the full case," Dion remarked, tilting his head a little.
"It was~ .... before you all decided to vanish without saying a word to anyone. Things have changed now. We don’t need outsiders to solve our matters anymore. We can fend for ourselves," Chris shut them down.
"It is not for you, a secretary, to make that decision," Alaric said, his sapphires glowing.
"With all due respect, it is. As the master’s right-hand man, I am in charge of this mansion and whatever happens in it. You~ ... don’t need to get involved anymore," Chris refused to back down. "It’s the Vampire Clan’s internal matter."
"I don’t think the Chairman will agree with your words, Shadow," Dion commented.
"So, we will wait for him to get up and hear his answer. Until then~ .... what I say goes," Chris said with a defiant look.
Alaric wanted to rip his throat apart for his cockiness. But he didn’t want to destroy the treaty because of a mere secretary’s poking.
