Chapter 598: A Costly Slip Of Tongue

(Author’s POV)

’My child, your blood has the power to resuscitate any being from death’s door.’ These words echoed inside Myra’s head.

With her eyes fixated on Garry, she mumbled, "Maybe~ ... I~ I can help him." Her voice was low, too low, nearly inaudible. No one in the room heard her words clearly. Just as she was about to say something, Liliana’s phone started chiming. Seeing that it was a call from Jeffery, she quickly picked it up. "Jeff~ .... how is mother doing now?" He said something to her from the other end, and the call disconnected.

"Yelena, your grandmother is calling both of us," she said, looking at her daughter with a complicated look. Yelena nodded hesitantly.

"I will, just be back," saying this, the mother and daughter made their way out of the room.

Now left with only Garry and a tired, sleep-deprived Oliver in the room, Myra’s subconscious urged her to take action. ’The coast is clear now. This is your chance to save Mr. Yates Senior and to repay his kindness. Don’t think about anything else. His life is at stake. And you are the one who can save him. Myra, just go for it.’

Taking a deep, long breath, Myra made the decision. If she could rescue Garry, she would willingly give her blood.

But the most important question was how she could convince Garry that her blood could cure him. She could definitely donate it, but there would be too many questions she had to answer, and time was running out for him. So, she walked toward the side table and sneakily grabbed a surgical knife without them noticing. With no warning, she slashed her palm and walked towards Garry.

Before Garry or his secretary could understand a thing, she pushed her bloodstained hand onto Garry’s slightly blackened and chapped lips, making him suck on her blood.

Both men were flabbergasted by her move, their eyes as big as saucers. Garry had no strength to push her away, but he mumbled, "Wh~y?"

"It will help you," she answered, with a tight expression.

Oliver came back to his senses and tried to pull Myra away but struggled because of his broken hand. He somehow managed to hold her and draw her away from Garry. But by then Garry had drunk quite a few drops of her blood.

Not knowing the context, he was furious and shouted, "Ms. Miracle, what the heck do you think you were doing to Mr. Yates? You made him drink your blood. Are you crazy? What kind of stunt was that?"

Before Myra could explain, the door burst open, bringing Brave and Elio in. They had changed into normal, decent clothing. The visuals in front of them and the strong metallic scent wafting in the air made their calm faces go livid.

Oliver was holding Myra’s hand, his face all scrunched up with anger. Blood was dripping down from her palm. And the same blood was smeared onto Garry’s lips.

Unaware of what had happened, the brothers thought Garry had forcefully drunk her blood to save himself.

Enraged by his audacity, Brave marched towards Garry, covering the distance within three footsteps. He grabbed Garry’s collar unceremoniously and started blasting him with his words, "GARRY YATES, YOU OLD BASTARD. I thought you wanted to repent for the evil, inhumane deeds you did in the past by coming clean and revealing the truth at the cost of your own life. But~ .... as soon as you saw Myra, you saw the opportunity. You saw her blood, your only chance at survival, huhh? You damned bastard, because of you she had suffered so much in her life. How dare you~ .... how dare you to try and take advantage of her? Alaric was right. Death isn’t a punishment for a monster like you. You should suffer the same agony, the same pain as the victims." He couldn’t hold his anger; his wolf agitated and was ready to strike as his hands turned into claws.

Garry shook his head repeatedly, but no words came out of his mouth.

Meanwhile, Elio had dashed towards the Secretary and punched him hard, freeing Myra. He then pulled her into his embrace tightly.

Myra, rattled by the sudden, dramatic chaos, shoved Elio away and hurried to Brave’s side. She clutched his forearm and said, "Brave, let go of him. I said let go of him right this instant. Mr. Yates didn’t force me. I was the one who did it all by myself." Her words were firm and absolute.

With one last squeeze, Brave let go of Garry and turned towards Myra, "You~ .... you did it? You gave him~ ... your blood?"

"Yes, I did. Mr. Yates Senior and Secretary Grey don’t even have any clue about the gold blood thing. They were trying to stop me," Myra clarified.

Brave and Elio’s eyes expanded when they understood what they had done. The anger, the slip of his tongue- he had made everything worse. They kept looking at Myra, waiting for her to ask questions. But she didn’t.

Myra walked towards Oliver, who was lying on the floor, trembling. His cheek was red, and his fractured hand was crushing under his own weight. She helped him get up carefully and, without looking at either of the Everests, took Oliver to see a doctor.

From the time she left to the time she returned, none of them spoke a word. The room was filled with a stifling stillness. Only the sound of the monitor indicating Garry’s vitals was beeping at a rhythmical pace.

After around five minutes, Myra returned alone. She locked the door behind her, walked towards Brave and asked, her voice even and unusually calm, "Brave, what did you mean by that?"

"Huhh?" Brave blinked.

"Don’t play dumb. You know what I am asking? What inhumane deeds did Mr. Yates do in the past? What did my sufferings have to do with him? And what about him coming clean?" she finally asked.

Another brooding silence followed her questions.

Brave pursed his lips, sucking in a sharp breath. Elio gulped down hard with nervousness. Neither of them knew how to answer her questions. They didn’t want to reopen her unhealed wounds.

"Myra~ ... you are asking the wrong person. I will answer all your questions," Garry’s voice pierced through the quiet.
