Marvel: I Am The Lord of the Shadow Dimension

Chapter 57: Chapter 57: The Classic 'Save the World' Team Comp

  • Next Chapter

Agent Simmons, blindfolded and highly agitated, was aggressively demanding to know the identity of the person who had dared to hold a katana to his throat. Suddenly, an incredibly familiar—and incredibly annoying—voice echoed from behind him.

"Wow. You actually have the nerve to show your face in front of me again? What, do you think your weird little alien buddies can protect you?"

Simmons whipped around, glaring at Luke. He immediately raised his hand, signaling his tactical squad to level their assault rifles directly at Luke.

"You're exactly right. My 'little buddies' are the reason I'm so confident," Luke replied casually, completely ignoring the dozen laser sights suddenly painting his chest and forehead.

"Is that so? It seems your extraterrestrial friends have given you a false sense of security," Simmons sneered. "Boys, double-check your lasers. I don't want anyone missing their shots when I give the order."

Luke glanced down at the glowing red dots dancing across his shirt.

"First of all, when I said 'little buddies,' I wasn't talking about the Autobots. Second, I really, really hate having guns pointed at my head."

While modern firearms posed absolutely zero threat to his 32x superhuman physique, having a dozen rifles aimed at his face was incredibly annoying.

"Sir! Something's wrong with the ground!"

A panicked report crackled over Simmons's earpiece from one of the helicopter pilots hovering above the bridge.

Simmons frowned, glancing down. Under the harsh glare of the helicopter spotlights, the shadows cast by the vehicles and the bridge pillars seemed unnaturally thick. More horrifyingly, the shadows were... moving.

Simmons suddenly remembered the razor-sharp katanas and the massive, invisible monsters that had lifted his SUV into the air. He looked back up at Luke, who was standing completely still.

"Is this your grand counter-measure?! We literally have guns aimed directly at your brain!" Simmons barked, trying to maintain his bravado.

"I highly doubt your bullets are faster than my guys."

The moment the words left Luke's mouth, dozens of pitch-black figures violently erupted from the shadows surrounding the Sector 7 agents. The cold glint of steel flashed in the moonlight.

"OPEN FIRE!" Simmons roared, his face pale with fury. He hadn't expected the teenager to actually initiate a firefight while completely surrounded.

The agents pulled their triggers. Dozens of bullets flew toward Luke.

But they never reached him.

CLANG-CLANG-CLANG!

Several Shadow Ninjas intercepted the bullets mid-air, their katanas flashing with impossible speed, perfectly slicing the incoming projectiles in half.

Simultaneously, the rest of the Shadowkhan descended upon the terrified agents. With brutal efficiency, dull, heavy strikes rained down, effortlessly breaking bones and knocking the highly trained operatives unconscious in seconds.

"I'm not particularly fond of killing, and honestly, you guys aren't really 'evil' anyway. However, like I said, I really hate having guns pointed at me. So consider yourselves lucky I'm only breaking your trigger fingers," Luke said calmly, completely unbothered by the chaos around him. 1

Luke raised his hands. Hundreds of thousands of stored Energy Points violently erupted from his back, condensing into two massive, terrifying serpents made of pure darkness.

The dark serpents shot into the sky, wrapping their massive jaws around the two military helicopters hovering above. With a sickening crunch, the serpents violently dragged the choppers to the ground, instantly annihilating the metal chassis into absolute nothingness!

Well... almost nothingness. Luke purposefully left the terrified pilots completely unharmed. However, he did kindly relieve them of all their clothing and gave them instantaneous, magical buzzcuts. Consider it a character-building experience.

Simmons, one of the few agents left completely unharmed, stared in sheer, unadulterated horror at the army of black-clad assassins and the colossal dark serpents fading into the night.

"What... what kind of monster are you?!"

Luke rubbed his ears in annoyance. 'Why does everyone always ask the exact same question? Get some new material.'

"I am the Lord of the Shadowkhan, an interdimensional traveler, and most importantly, I am Luke."

"Sounds catchy," Simmons offered a weak, trembling smile. If he weren't completely surrounded by magical assassins, he might have actually looked suave saying it.

Ignoring Simmons, Luke walked over to the tangled mess of steel cables and cryogenic freezing equipment pinning Bumblebee to the ground. A pulse of dark energy shot from his hand, instantly vaporizing the heavy restraints.

"How does freedom feel, big guy?" Luke asked.

Bumblebee slowly stood up, shaking off the residual frost. He tuned his radio through several frequencies before compiling a sentence. "Tonight is the night of freedom! Thank you."

With a happy mechanical whir, Bumblebee eagerly jogged over to check on Sam.

Luke shook his head in amusement. He turned toward the dark overpass and yelled, "Are you guys still not coming out?!"

After a brief silence, massive metallic footsteps echoed from under the bridge. The Autobots rapidly approached the scene.

"Thank the AllSpark you're functional!" Jazz cheered, rushing over to Bumblebee and happily swatting the remaining frost off his armor.

Ratchet hurried over, his optical sensors scanning the yellow Autobot. "His core temperature dropped significantly, resulting in a temporary slow-down of his cognitive processors, but there is no permanent structural damage," Ratchet concluded, much to the relief of Jazz and Ironhide.

Meanwhile, Luke walked directly up to Optimus Prime.

"So, what do you prefer? A good ending, or a tragedy?" Luke asked, looking up at the ten-meter-tall mechanical titan.

Despite the massive size difference, Luke felt absolutely zero intimidation. In fact, surrounded by the terrifying aura of over a million points of dark energy, Luke was undeniably the most intimidating entity present.

"A good ending, always. However, my power is limited. I cannot force the universe to bend to my will," Optimus replied honestly, his internal sensors screaming at him regarding the apocalyptic energy readings radiating from the human.

"True," Luke nodded. He had just wanted to test Optimus's fundamental philosophy regarding his comrades. While he wasn't entirely satisfied with Optimus's extreme pragmatism, he couldn't fault the Autobot leader's logic.

Ultimately, this universe—like all others—operated on the principle of 'Might Makes Right.' In the Transformers universe, Luke's current power level placed him at the absolute apex; he had the capital to be arrogant and force 'good endings.' But if he were back in the Marvel universe, he was still just a relatively small fish in a terrifyingly large pond.

Whew.

Luke finally exhaled, letting go of his lingering frustration. 'Why was I even mad? Probably because I expected these characters to be perfectly flawless, fearless heroes like in the movies.'

But reality was complex. Sentient beings were messy, full of conflicting thoughts, fears, and difficult choices. It was completely normal.

'I mean, look at me. I only have bursts of motivation between long periods of intense slacking off,' Luke rationalized.

(Long-term slacker, short-term tryhard.jpg)

"You seem... remarkably familiar with us. Did you form preconceptions of our character before we even met?" Optimus asked, sensing Luke's shifting emotions.

Luke smiled but didn't answer.

"So, what's the next step?" Luke asked, gesturing for a Shadow Ninja to hand him Sam's backpack, containing the grandfather's glasses.

"We retrieve the AllSpark and secure it safely," Optimus stated firmly.

"Alright, you guys plan the logistics. I'm going to take a nap," Luke yawned. He casually summoned a massive Troll Ninja, hopped up, and comfortably nestled himself in the Troll's massive, shadowy arms.

'The Trolls are way more comfortable than the Autobots. Too much metal and sharp angles on the cars. The Trolls have a nice, cushy layer of shadowy fat. It's like sleeping on a giant, squishy beanbag.'

Meanwhile, miles away, still hidden inside the impounded police cruiser that had been tailing Sam, a tiny, insect-like Decepticon—Frenzy—peeked out from the dashboard. His red optics locked onto the group.

He frantically transmitted an encrypted, high-frequency burst signal.

[The Autobots have located the AllSpark coordinates! All Decepticons, mobilize immediately!]

(Author's Note: I totally forgot about Frenzy earlier! The little guy has almost zero presence in the first movie anyway, but he's important for the plot progression.)

Dawn broke over the Nevada desert.

Luke had enjoyed an incredibly comfortable night's sleep. Since the Autobots could manipulate their interiors, he had simply asked Jazz to transform into a spacious luxury RV for the long drive.

Stepping out of the RV, Luke stretched lazily, admiring the massive, concrete expanse of the Hoover Dam in the morning light.

"So, the AllSpark is hidden underneath all this concrete?" Luke asked, rubbing the sleep from his eyes and looking over at Optimus.

"According to the coordinates inscribed on the glasses, yes."

Luke nodded. "Alright, let's bring our tour guide out. We're going to need him to get past security."

Ironhide's passenger door violently popped open, unceremoniously dumping a highly disheveled Agent Simmons onto the pavement.

"Damn it! I am a federal agent! You cannot treat a prisoner of war like this!" Simmons yelled indignantly.

"You can't expect aliens and interdimensional travelers who haven't signed the Geneva Convention to care about your human laws," Luke chuckled.

Two Shadow Ninjas grabbed Simmons by the arms, hauling him to his feet. "Look alive, Simmons. Didn't we have a nice, long chat about this last night? We aren't the bad guys."

"If this 'Megatron' is truly planning to use the Cube to build a mechanical army and conquer Earth... we will help you stop him! I am willing to temporarily put aside our hostilities for the sake of national security!" Simmons declared, puffing out his chest with righteous authority.

Luke shook his head in amusement. The guy really loved to save face.

It had taken Luke nearly three hours of intense arguing last night to finally convince Simmons that they weren't evil, world-conquering aliens. The fact that Luke hadn't killed a single agent during the ambush heavily supported his claim, eventually earning a fragile, temporary truce with Sector 7.

Luke had to secure their cooperation. Otherwise, if the military panicked during the fight with the Decepticons and launched a tactical nuke at the dam, everyone would die.

'Well... everyone except me. I could just hide in the Dark Dimension, but Optimus and the others would be instantly vaporized.'

Luke glanced at Optimus and sighed. He really was putting in a lot of effort to help the big guy out.

While taking a quick break, Luke pulsed another Morse code message to the Ancient One and snacked on a bag of chips.

Sam and Mikaela stepped out of Bumblebee, comfortably holding hands. 'Looks like the trauma bonding worked wonders last night,' Luke noted.

Thinking about romance suddenly made Luke wonder how Tony and Pepper were doing back in Marvel. Had they reached 'that' step yet? Would he come back to find out he was going to be a godfather?!

Finishing his snack, Luke clapped his hands.

"Alright, the sooner we start, the sooner we finish! Let's get to work!"

The group piled back into their respective vehicles, and the convoy rolled toward the heavily fortified Hoover Dam checkpoints.

The dam was swarming with military personnel today. Heavily armed soldiers manned concrete barricades, while men in black suits scanned every approaching vehicle for unusual radiation signatures.

Simmons, sitting in the passenger seat of Ironhide, rolled down the window as they approached the emergency access lane.

"Hey! Halt!" A squad of soldiers immediately raised their rifles.

"I am Sector 7 Director Seymour Simmons! Clearance Code: Bravo-Tango-Seven! Verify my credentials and grant us immediate access!" Simmons barked with practiced authority.

The soldiers quickly radioed command. A few minutes later, Tom Banachek, Simmons's second-in-command, hurried over to the checkpoint.

"Where the hell were you last night?!" Banachek hissed, blinking furiously. Luke, sitting in the backseat, rolled his eyes at the blatant, terrible covert signaling.

"Relax, Tom. Stop blinking like an idiot. I wasn't compromised. I just acquired some highly classified, urgent intelligence," Simmons said smoothly.

"Uh... I think we still need to verify your identity," Banachek said nervously, eyeing the strange convoy. 'What if these cars are actually those alien robots in disguise?!'

"Do I really have to announce over an open channel that you exclusively wear Winnie the Pooh boxers?" Simmons glared.

"...Open the gates!"

Banachek quickly threw on a pair of aviator sunglasses to hide his profound embarrassment. 'Hey, you wear the exact same brand of boxers! Don't judge me!'

The convoy drove deep into the lower levels of the dam. As soon as they parked in a secure subterranean bay, Optimus and the Autobots instantly transformed into their robot modes.

"HOSTILES! ALIEN CONTACT!" Banachek screamed, diving for cover as dozens of Sector 7 guards raised their weapons at the towering Autobots.

"Stand down! Stand down!" Simmons yelled, stepping in front of the guns. "They are not our enemies! At least, not right now."

Banachek looked at Simmons like he had lost his mind.

"Our true enemy is the giant ice cube in Sector 4 and his friends," Simmons clarified, pulling Banachek aside to quickly brief him on the impending Decepticon threat.

Luke ignored the bureaucratic arguing, his attention drawn to a squad of highly disciplined, exhausted-looking soldiers standing nearby.

'That must be Captain Lennox and his surviving Rangers from the Qatar base attack,' Luke realized. He could tell the soldiers were still extremely tense, staring at the Autobots with barely concealed hostility.

After finishing his briefing, Simmons gathered Lennox's squad and led the entire group deeper into the facility.

"Honestly, if this giant guy didn't look exactly like the ancient carvings we found near the Cube, I would never have believed you," Simmons muttered to Optimus as they walked. "I mean, this whole situation is absurd. Extraterrestrials, an interdimensional traveler, and a completely average high school kid teaming up to save the world? I pray to God I'm not trapped in some cheesy superhero movie."

Luke glanced at him. 'Buddy, do you not know what a classic, blockbuster team composition looks like?!'

(Tactical Lean Back.jpg)

Simmons led them around a massive corner into Sector 4, revealing a colossal, frozen cavern. Suspended in the center of the room, completely encased in thick layers of artificial ice, was a terrifying, jagged mechanical titan.

"MEGATRON!"

Ironhide roared in fury, instantly deploying his heavy cannons and aiming directly at the frozen Decepticon leader. Jazz and Ratchet quickly drew their weapons as well.

"Whoa, chill out! He's completely frozen!" Simmons yelled, throwing his hands up.

"Lower your weapons! That's my future personal power bank! Don't scratch the paint!" Luke yelled right alongside him.

Ironhide glanced at Optimus. Receiving a calm nod from his leader, Ironhide reluctantly retracted his cannons.

"Can you guys please stop being so trigger-happy?" Simmons sighed in relief.

Optimus, playing the role of leader, diplomat, and tired babysitter, stepped forward. "I apologize. Megatron has slaughtered our kind for millennia. Their reaction is... instinctual."

"Whatever. The giant cube you're looking for is this way," Simmons grumbled, leading them into an impossibly vast, subterranean chamber.

Resting in the center of the cavern was a towering, heavily inscribed, metallic cube. The AllSpark.

"Here's the thing, and it's another reason I actually believed your story," Simmons said, gesturing to the Cube. "We discovered that this artifact emits a localized radiation field that can forcefully animate mundane human electronics into highly aggressive, uncontrollable, and extremely violent robots. Exactly like the 'Decepticons' you described."

"That is impossible," Ratchet frowned, stepping forward. "The AllSpark grants life, yes. But it does not inherently dictate personality or morality. It certainly shouldn't default to creating purely evil entities."

"Well, it does! Every single toaster or cell phone we expose to it immediately tries to murder us! We've run the tests a hundred times!" Simmons argued.

Luke suddenly chimed in. "Wait... are all the electronics you're exposing to the Cube built using reverse-engineered technology from Megatron?"

Simmons froze. He slowly nodded.

"Ah. That explains it," Ratchet realized. "Our physical chassis are highly unique. They contain trace amounts of our specific cyber-genetic coding—similar to human DNA. It carries fragments of our personality matrix. If you've been building your entire civilization's technology using Megatron's reverse-engineered parts, it's completely natural that the AllSpark is animating them with his violent, Decepticon traits."

"You're kidding me..." Simmons turned deathly pale.

For the past seventy years, Sector 7 had been secretly seeding Megatron's reverse-engineered technology into the global market. Microchips, cell phones, cars... even modern military weapons! If the AllSpark's energy hit a major city, the consequences would be apocalyptic!

"Autobots! Secure the AllSpark immediately! Be on high alert for enemy forces!" Optimus ordered urgently, realizing the sheer horror of the situation.

Simmons, finally understanding the true scale of the threat, immediately grabbed his radio to order the exterior military forces to lock down the dam.

But before he could finish his sentence, a deafening explosion echoed through the radio, followed by frantic screaming and the unmistakable sound of plasma fire.

"Damn it! We've got a massive breach topside!" Simmons yelled, his face grim. The Decepticons had arrived.

Less than five seconds later, the dam's internal klaxons began blaring wildly.

"They have found us! Bumblebee, shrink the AllSpark and secure it! The rest of you, with me! We must hold them off!" Optimus roared, leading Ratchet and Ironhide toward the exit.

"We need weapons! Heavy ordnance!" Captain Lennox yelled, grabbing Simmons's arm. He knew from Qatar that standard 5.56mm rifles were completely useless against these monsters.

"Follow me! Sector 7 armory! We have sabot rounds, grenade launchers, everything!" Simmons yelled, leading the Rangers down a side corridor.

Left entirely alone in the massive cavern, Luke shrugged. 'Looks like I'm a free agent.'

"I think I'll go check out the front lines first," Luke muttered.

Glancing back to make sure Bumblebee was successfully shrinking the AllSpark, Luke decided he would head outside, brutally beat the invading Decepticons into submission, and then come back to claim his frozen Megatron prize.
