Chapter 6732: The Son-In-Law Who Strikes Fear
“Y-you are...”
Both Jie Tianran and the old entity, who had addressed himself as the Five Realms Immortal Exalted, jolted in shock. In contrast, the man looked at them calmly.
“Yes, it’s me. Chu Feng’s father, Chu Xuanyuan.”
Jie Tianran had known from the moment he saw Chu Xuanyuan’s face. When he learned that Chu Feng was his grandson, he did a thorough investigation into Chu Feng’s background and obtained Chu Xuanyuan’s portrait. But he didn’t expect Chu Xuanyuan to have grown so strong.
“Why did you save me? Are you trying to humiliate me?” Jie Tianran asked.
“Humiliate you? Not everyone is as narrow-minded as you,” Chu Xuanyuan scoffed.
Pah!
The old entity slapped Jie Tianran. “Jie Tianran, shut your mouth if you don’t know how to speak. How can he say that when he came here to save you? You should show some gratit...”
Before the old entity could finish his words, a surge of martial power enveloped his body and altered his face, erasing his mouth. The old entity frantically clawed his mouth, trying to undo the transformation with his spirit power, but it was to no avail.
Now that he had lost his mouth, he couldn’t make any noise anymore.
“You have no place here,” Chu Xuanyuan sneered. He then turned to Jie Tianran and asked, “Surely you don’t think that this trash over here has really trained the World Spiritist Emperor, right?”
Jie Tianran didn’t answer. He had once believed that, but after seeing how the old entity had subserviently begged Chu Feng and fawned on Chu Xuanyuan, doubt began sprouting in his mind.
“Don’t think too much into it. I have no goodwill for you. You are unworthy of my respect. I only saved you because you are Ranqing’s father. I’ll let Ranqing decide your fate,” Chu Xuanyuan said.
Jie Tianran looked conflicted. Chu Xuanyuan was far stronger than Chu Feng, even after the latter had activated bloodline rampage, but he didn’t expect Chu Xuanyuan to be so calm as if everything was under his control. This was the true airs of a ruler.
Jie Tianran suddenly felt small and insignificant. He asked, “Who... are you?”
“Who do you think I am?” Chu Xuanyuan asked.
“You are much younger than me. How can someone of your age be this powerful? Just who in the world are you?” Jie Tianran asked.
Chu Xuanyuan chuckled. He understood what Jie Tianran was insinuating. The latter must be thinking that he was some powerful entity from the Ancient Era or even the Immemorial Era who had reincarnated into this body. Otherwise, it wouldn’t make sense for him to be this powerful.
But that wasn’t the case at all. He had obtained his cultivation with his own hands. He asked, “You don’t think I can be so powerful because you have been viewing the world from the little well you’re in.”
Jie Tianran felt the world spinning around him. He had to calm down.
If Chu Xuayuan was not the reincarnation of an ancient powerhouse, it would mean that he was monstrously talented. He should have become very powerful a long time ago, so why didn’t he intervene earlier?
He could only think of one explanation.
“Were you making use of me to fuel Chu Feng’s growth? What does Ranqing mean to you then? Why didn’t you save her when I imprisoned her? Don’t tell me that your cultivation only surged after Ranqing entered the Ninth Galaxy, and that you were weaker than me before that?” Jie Tianran asked.
He was convinced that Chu Xuanyuan would have already surpassed him when he first got together with Jie Ranqing if he was this powerful now, so why did Chu Xuanyuan not intervene when he captured Jie Ranqing.
Chu Xuanyuan could have left Jie Tianran be to create some challenges for Chu Feng to mature, but what about Jie Ranqing then? Was she nothing but a tool to Chu Xuanyuan?
“Looks like you’re curious about me. Very well, I’ll fulfill your curiosity.
“I investigated you before getting with Ranqing. Back then, I didn’t know you had an immemorial braggart in you, but I knew that you were stronger than what you appeared on the surface. Nevertheless, I was confident.
“Indeed. If I wanted to, I could have trampled on you before Feng’er was born. But there was no need for me to hinder my future cultivation to do that. Your existence can push Feng’er’s growth anyway. So yes, I intended to use you to temper Feng’er.
“But that’s not all. I wanted to temper Ranqing as well.”
Jie Tianran frowned. “Temper Ranqing?”
“Ranqing is extremely talented, and she can be even more vicious than me. She’s naturally adapted to the world of cultivation. She was born to tower over everyone else. If I have to point out a shortcoming, it is that her life has been too smooth. There isn’t enough pressure on her to push her to her maximum potential.”
Jie Tianran glared at Chu Xuanyuan and roared, “You turned us against each other?”
But he immediately cooled down when Chu Xuanyuan shot him a cold glare. The latter’s unscrupulousness terrified him. He didn’t even fear death when facing Chu Feng, but somehow, he felt fear when facing Chu Xuanyuan.
“Have a conscience, won’t you? You were the one who turned against Ranqing. Did I coerce you to do anything? You did it all on your accord. Ranqing hates you because you tried to take Feng’er’s bloodline.
“Even if not for me, you would have still done the same if someone else got together with Ranqing. It’s just that you would have succeeded in killing Ranqing’s lover and child. You are capable of that.
“I was convinced that you would kill Ranqing and Ranqing’s mother to achieve your goals. You didn’t do that in the end, but that doesn’t mean that you are a good person. It just means that they have some weight in your heart. You are a man driven solely by ambitions. Surely you will at least admit to that, right?” Chu Xuanyuan asked.
Jie Tianran fell silent. He couldn’t refute Chu Xuanyuan’s words. Indeed, he wouldn’t have allowed anyone to be with his daughter, and he would have killed anyone whom his daughter got together with.
Chu Xuanyuan was only alive because Jie Tianran was unable to do anything about him.
He had never thought that he was a good person. A good person wouldn’t have massacred his own brethren over a prophecy.
“You succeeded. Ranqing awakened her bloodline to protect Chu Feng. Chu Feng grew rapidly under my oppression. Your schemes worked. What else do you want from me? Why don’t you get straight to the point?” Jie Tianran asked.
“Stop. Don’t give yourself more credit than what you’re worth. You seem to think that you’re an irreplaceable asset, and that you are responsible for Feng’er’s accomplishments. Even if not for you, I still have plenty of ways to temper Feng’er. He would still be outstanding. But you... would still be a loser even if not for Feng’er,” Chu Xuanyuan sneered.
Jie Tianran’s heart clenched.
