Chapter 221: Chapter 162: God-tier Booster! Spirit Channeling, Activate

The words had barely left his mouth when a flash of sword light landed on his back again.

Zhai Jia howled in fury, getting beaten as he ran.

...

「1:30 AM.」

Wan Ze was jolted awake by a call.

He opened his eyes and fumbled for his communicator in the darkness.

The moment he answered, Zhai Jia’s breathless voice, clearly still shaken, came through.

"Ah Ze! There really is a ghost! For real! And it’s a goddamn female ghost! She chased me, trying to hack me to bits for over two hours! I can’t take it anymore!!!"

Wan Ze rubbed the bridge of his nose and sat up.

His expression grew increasingly complex.

’Damn it.’

’Is this ever going to end?!’

"Ah Ze, I’m coming to find you..."

"Go to the guest house, to Sun Beixi’s room. I’ll be there in a minute."

After hanging up, he got up and dressed.

...

「1:47 AM.」

「The guest house, Sun Beixi’s room.」

The lights were on, as bright as day.

Sun Beixi sat in a chair in the corner, hugging a pillow and blinking.

He saw Zhai Jia sitting in another chair, his hair a bird’s nest and dark circles under his eyes. He looked just like Sun Beixi had earlier that day, completely drained of all vitality.

Wan Ze looked at the two figures before him, both sporting dark circles, his expression a little odd.

Zhai Jia looked up, his eyes full of reproach. "Ah Ze..."

Wan Ze didn’t speak right away.

He was actually pondering a question.

’Why hadn’t the Female Sword Immortal come looking for him?’

’He ran through the events again... The first time, she entered Sun Beixi’s dream.’

’Then, she went to that other world to find him, but he had first encountered the Broken Sword, and only then did he meet her.’

’Originally, Zhai Jia had nothing to do with this, but today he’d been ensnared in a dream as well.’

’What was the medium?’

’The coffin?’

’No.’

’Sun Beixi had never touched the coffin, and Professor Song and his two students were also fine.’

"This is so freaking weird..." Zhai Jia said with an indignant look, clutching his hair. "I just ran my mouth a little during the day, and she actually came after me! Chased me for over two hours, trying to chop me up! Two whole hours! She has no humanity!"

"Well, she’s not human to begin with," Sun Beixi said quietly.

Zhai Jia whipped his head around to face Sun Beixi, a final shred of hope in his eyes. "Did she come after you tonight?"

Sun Beixi shook his head and said cautiously, "No."

Zhai Jia’s face instantly turned green. "Holy shit! So she only came after me?!"

Sun Beixi shrank back sheepishly, not daring to respond.

Wan Ze drily added from the side, "Isn’t this what you wanted? Didn’t you say earlier you wanted to meet the pretty female ghost?"

Zhai Jia’s face turned even greener. He tore at his hair, a complete wreck. "Ah Ze, stop messing with me! What are we going to do now? The second I fall asleep, she shows up and starts hacking at me! God damn it! Even my ex-girlfriend wasn’t this persistent."

Sun Beixi was secretly relieved, but he also knew that Zhai Jia was taking the heat for him right now. Otherwise, he would have been the one suffering.

Zhai Jia looked around. "How about... we squeeze in for tonight? I’ll just sleep here. We can keep each other company. I’m fine with sleeping on the floor."

Sun Beixi panicked.

’What the hell? You want to stay here?’

’What if he attracts that female ghost back to me?’

"That’s not it, Brother Jia, don’t be hasty..." He quickly looked to Wan Ze, his eyes begging for help.

Wan Ze mulled it over. "First, we need to figure out what she wants. If this is just senseless revenge, it won’t last more than a few days."

"’A few days?’ Sun Beixi’s legs went weak. ’I couldn’t even survive one night of this! After two more days, I’ll probably become a Fierce Ghost myself!’"

Zhai Jia calmed down a little, frowning in thought. "So... it has something to do with the ruins? Should we go take another look?"

"There’s nothing left in those ruins. It’d be pointless to go back." Wan Ze waved his hand dismissively and suddenly stood up.

Zhai Jia and Sun Beixi both looked at him.

"I have an idea, but I need to test it," Wan Ze said.

"What is it?" they both asked eagerly.

Wan Ze glanced at them. "I’m going to lie down in that coffin. Maybe I’ll be able to meet her that way."

Zhai Jia and Sun Beixi both jumped to their feet.

"What the hell, don’t!"

"That thing is bad juju!"

Zhai Jia grabbed his arm. "Ah Ze, don’t be rash! I say we head to Dragon Tiger Mountain tonight and ask a real master for help! I know an old Daoist, and that old man is a huge deal... He’s the eighty-eighth generation successor of the Zhengyi Sect, and they say he can communicate with the Exorcist Gods. Even my family’s elders have to respectfully call him ’Daoist’ when they see him! I always thought he was a fraud, but now... maybe he’s the real deal!"

Sun Beixi’s eyes lit up. "Then what are we waiting for? Let’s go!"

Zhai Jia took out his phone to check. "Driving there..." he mused, "...will take four or five days."

Sun Beixi’s face turned green on the spot.

’Four or five days?’

’He was afraid he wouldn’t live long enough to meet the Elder Immortal.’

Wan Ze shook his head. "I’ll try my way first tonight. It would be best if I can communicate with her."

Zhai Jia hesitated. "That female ghost doesn’t seem to understand human language... I doubt it’ll work. But it’s worth a shot. If it fails, we’ll set off first thing tomorrow morning."

Sun Beixi nodded again and again, then tugged on Wan Ze’s sleeve. "Please, Master, you have to be extremely careful!"

...

「In the basement.」

The coffin rested silently in the corner. Hazy moonlight from a window fell upon it, giving it a dull, dark sheen.

The scent of wood filled the air.

Wan Ze had Zhai Jia and Sun Beixi wait in the adjacent room while he entered alone.

"I’ll contact you on the communicator if anything happens."

With that, he closed the door.

He walked over to the coffin and looked down at the thousand-year-old sarcophagus.

He needed to activate his Spiritual Form, and there were things about it that he couldn’t let Zhai Jia and Sun Beixi know just yet... which was why he had also locked the door from the inside.

Then, Wan Ze took a deep breath, hoisted himself over the edge, and lay down inside.

The bottom of the coffin was hard. A chilling cold spread up from his back, as if he were lying on a block of ice.
