Chapter 220: Chapter 162: Almighty Carry! The Spiritual Channel Opens
"Master, this technique of yours..." He turned his head in surprise.
"Don’t move," Wan Ze said, continuing to apply pressure. "You’re all wound up. You need to relax."
Sun Beixi obediently lay back down, his heart a mix of joy and anxiety.
He was happy to finally get some relief, but anxious because this only treated the symptoms, not the root cause. ’I can’t just have him massage me every day, can I?’
Half an hour later.
Zhai Jia rushed back and took a piece of Yellow Paper from his shirt, on which were drawn some winding, red symbols.
"Take this!"
He slapped the Talisman Paper into Sun Beixi’s hand and said with a grin, "This was drawn by an old Daoist who’s over a hundred years old. It’s guaranteed to work! Put it under your pillow before you go to sleep tonight, and I promise you’ll sleep soundly till morning."
Sun Beixi clutched the Talisman Paper like a lifeline. "Thank you, Master Zhai! Thank you!"
Wan Ze glanced at the Talisman Paper but said nothing.
’I can’t say if it’ll work on the female ghost,’ he thought, ’but in Sun Beixi’s current state, even a placebo would be helpful.’
Zhai Jia puffed out his chest triumphantly. "Don’t worry. With me here, no demons or monsters will get anywhere near you."
Sun Beixi was overcome with gratitude, but then Zhai Jia let out a wicked laugh. "I wonder if that female ghost is pretty... If she is, tell her to come find me. I’ll have a nice, long chat with her about the meaning of life."
Sun Beixi quickly shushed him. "Master Zhai, you shouldn’t say things like that!"
"Careful about what?" Zhai Jia waved a dismissive hand, a playful smirk on his face. "I’m telling you, if there really is a female ghost, I’d be dying to meet her. Let’s see how pretty she is, and if she can bewitch me. If she’s a real looker, dating her isn’t out of the question... Hey, it would be an epic human-ghost romance!"
Sun Beixi’s face went pale.
Wan Ze shot Zhai Jia a look and shook his head. He told Sun Beixi to get some rest. Once he was asleep and they confirmed nothing was out of the ordinary, the two of them quietly closed the door and left.
...
Back at the dojo, the night had grown deep.
Zhai Jia couldn’t be bothered to go home, so he dragged Wan Ze to the backyard to spar.
After exchanging over a hundred blows, they were both drenched in sweat and flopped onto a stone bench to rest.
"Ah Ze, do you believe what Old Sun said about that female ghost?" Zhai Jia asked, wiping away his sweat.
Wan Ze thought for a moment. "I... guess so."
"Huh?" Zhai Jia froze.
"There are too many things in this world that science can’t explain. Who knows?" Wan Ze sighed.
Zhai Jia shook his head, not giving it a second thought. He stretched, gazed up at the sea of stars, and started running his mouth again. "If you ask me, a real female ghost would be pretty cool. I’ve lived this long and never even seen one. If I ever meet one, I’ll have to get a good look at her. If she’s pretty, we’ll talk. If she’s not, I’ll just beat her up and send her packing. Heh, I’d become a great demon-slaying hero."
Wan Ze shook his head and chuckled.
As soon as Zhai Jia left, he immersed himself in his Cultivation.
...
「In the blink of an eye.」
Holy City was plunged into the dead of night.
Zhai Jia was in bed, fast asleep.
Suddenly, a bone-piercing chill washed over him.
His eyes snapped open.
A face was staring right at him.
Less than four inches away!
The face was beautiful. Her skin was so pale it was nearly transparent, her features as exquisite as a painting. Her long hair cascaded down, brushing against the side of his face.
But where her eyes should have been were two pitch-black, bloody sockets.
Staring right through him.
"HOLY FUCK!!!"
A bloodcurdling scream exploded in the room!
Every hair on Zhai Jia’s body stood on end.
He was a Refining Viscera Martial Artist. His Perception of his surroundings far exceeded that of an ordinary person. Forget someone getting close—he could sense if someone was even staring at him from ten meters away.
But this... person... had appeared before him without a sound, staring him in the face, and he hadn’t sensed a thing!
Even more terrifying, she had no eyes!
The words Sun Beixi had spoken that day suddenly flashed through Zhai Jia’s mind, and a chill shot straight up his spine.
Holy shit!
’Is this for real?!’
He didn’t have time to think. He just threw a punch.
The full Power of a Refining Viscera Martial Artist erupted, enough to shatter a skull.
But the woman in white simply, almost casually, extended a hand.
She pointed a single finger.
There was no physical contact, but a terrifying Power struck him from afar.
"BANG!"
Zhai Jia was sent flying, snapping a tree trunk behind him before crashing heavily to the ground!
The searing pain nearly overwhelmed his consciousness.
He lay sprawled on the ground, gasping for breath.
But in the next second, his mind suddenly cleared!
’Wait a damn minute!’
’Wasn’t I sleeping at home?’
’How did I end up in the middle of a forest?’
He snapped his head up and looked around.
Moonlight! A forest!
This wasn’t his room.
’Where the fuck did she send me?!’
In mid-air, the white-robed figure hovered, looking down on him.
Zhai Jia pushed himself to his feet, wincing as he moved his aching body. He looked up and forced a smile that was uglier than a sob. "Hey, lady, how about we just talk this out calmly? I... I even went to college. I’m sure we can find some common ground."
The woman in white said nothing.
She simply held out her hand.
A Broken Sword flew from the distance and into her grasp.
Zhai Jia cursed under his breath.
’Fuck, it’s the Broken Sword!’
’That kid Sun Beixi was right all along!’
’So there really are fucking female ghosts in this world!’
Before Zhai Jia could even process this, the woman in white had already raised the sword and swung it down!
A flash of light from the blade.
"BANG!"
Zhai Jia was sent flying again. He tumbled across the ground, his whole body wracked with pain.
He felt himself over.
’No blood?’
’Hahaha! Am I invulnerable or something? I can’t be killed?’
The moment he grinned, another flash of light from the blade struck!
"BANG!"
He went flying again.
It was true, he wasn’t dying, but the pain was excruciatingly real!
This female ghost clearly wanted to make him suffer a fate worse than death!
"Fuck!" Zhai Jia scrambled to his feet and cursed as he ran. "You’re already a ghost! Do you have to be so damn vicious?"
