Married the Sick Uncle – Just Waiting to Inherit His Fortune
Chapter 452: You’re the One Who Said It
Now that Ethan Linden had a child, it fulfilled a dream of Anna Linden’s and eased an old regret.
Sharon Sutton sat to the side, eating quietly. Since her divorce, her once lively and bubbly personality had become withdrawn and silent.
An unhappy marriage was, without a doubt, like hell for a woman.
And now, she was that woman who had crawled out of hell.
Anne Sutton glanced at her sister. "Tired?"
Hearing Anne, Sharon Sutton nodded. "Yeah."
Anne looked at her and said, "If you’re tired, go home and rest early. Don’t work yourself so hard."
The employees were handling everything at the shop.
Even if Mrs. Sutton and Sharon weren’t there for two or three days, it wouldn’t affect anything.
Sharon Sutton heard Anne’s words and nodded. "Thanks, sis."
Anne said, "I’ll bring Ian back home this weekend."
She actually wanted to go home tonight, too.
But...
Ian wanted to go to school every day, and Anne didn’t want to be away from her son.
She had to work, and Ian had school during the day. The only time she had with her son was in the evening, so she couldn’t bear to leave him.
Mrs. Sutton said, "That’s fine! Ian’s started school. Is he getting used to it?"
"He’s doing great."
Mrs. Sutton added, "Oh, right, Anne’s birthday is coming up soon, isn’t it? It’s in a few days. Any plans on how to celebrate?"
Anne Sutton smiled. "I was just thinking I’d come over for a meal you cooked, Mom. We could just have some cake. I have a birthday every year; it’s not a big deal."
Nathan Fawcett, afraid Mrs. Sutton would take her seriously, quickly interjected, "I’m already preparing for her birthday. You don’t have to worry, Auntie."
Anna Linden, sitting nearby, looked at her son and said, "From the sound of it, you’re planning on throwing a big party for Anne?"
Nathan Fawcett said, "Isn’t that what I should do? No matter what, Anne is the chairwoman of the Fawcett Group now. With her status, not throwing a big celebration would be doing her a disservice."
"Why do I get the feeling you’re just trying to make a fool out of me?"
Anne Sutton glared at the man.
’What chairwoman?’
’I’m just a figurehead.’
’She knew perfectly well what she was and wasn’t capable of.’
Nathan Fawcett said, "How would I dare? I wouldn’t dare!"
...
That evening, after dinner, they all headed home.
When they left, Finn rode in Anna Linden’s car.
Anna wanted to spend more time with her grandson.
So, Anne Sutton took Ian and went home first.
...
Mia Shaw had already finished her shower and walked out of the bathroom. She glanced at Leo, who was standing by the wall, dozing off. After running around outside all day, Leo was completely exhausted.
He was desperate to sleep!
As Mia Shaw walked past him, she kicked his foot to wake him up. "I told you to stand. Who said you could sleep?"
Leo opened his eyes and looked at Mia Shaw.
Mia Shaw said, "If you hadn’t been crying outside today, I wouldn’t have been seen by Anne Sutton. And she wouldn’t have gone to tattle to your father! Your dad just called to ask about you! This is all your fault, understand?"
Leo looked at Mia Shaw, his expression full of grievance.
Mia Shaw continued, "Your father has to work every day; he doesn’t have time to deal with me. Let me tell you, if you don’t listen to me, next time you get sick at home, no one will take care of you. You could die from sickness and no one would even know! And if you think you’ll see your mother then, you can just dream on."
After she spoke, she flopped onto the bed and said to Leo, "You stand there properly. If I catch you sleeping, you’ll see how I’ll deal with you."
’She knew better now.’
’Hitting him would only leave marks on his body, and then Charles Prescott would come looking for trouble.’
’So she wouldn’t hit him, wouldn’t leave any scars...’
’Then no one else could come and bother her about it, right?’
Mia Shaw lay on the bed, staring at Leo. Leo looked a lot like Charles Prescott, and the more he resembled him, the angrier Mia became.
’How had Charles Prescott treated her?’
’How much had she sacrificed for him?’
’Without her, he would have been at a dead end by now. But in front of her, he still acted all high and mighty. Who did he think he was?’
’Since he bullied her like this, he couldn’t blame her for not doting on his son!’
’Charles Prescott, you brought this on yourself.’
Thinking of this, the last trace of guilt in Mia Shaw’s heart vanished.
The next morning, Anne Sutton once again saw Mia Shaw bringing Leo to the hospital.
Leo already had a bit of a cold yesterday.
After being forced to stand all night as punishment, his fever was even worse today.
Mia Shaw was leading him, and though he was coughing constantly, she paid him no mind.
The little guy struggled to keep up on his short legs, looking absolutely pitiful.
Mia Shaw walked on ahead, and eventually, Leo collapsed.
Mia Shaw walked a few more steps, and when she noticed he wasn’t behind her, she turned back, about to scold him, only to see him lying on the ground.
She stared at the scene, her face dark as she walked back. She hauled him up from the ground and said, "Wake up! It’s just a little cold. Look at you, you’ve been coughing for days. It’s so annoying."
Anne Sutton saw this and walked over. Seeing that Mia Shaw was still busy nagging, she shoved her aside and began to check on Leo.
Mia Shaw looked at her. "Ms. Sutton, what do you think you’re doing? Who said you could touch my child!"
"He has a fever!" Anne Sutton said. "How did it get so high?"
"How should I know?" Mia Shaw said. "Kids are always getting sick."
Anne Sutton glanced at Mia Shaw, then rushed Leo to the emergency room.
After all, Anne Sutton wasn’t a pediatrician. This kind of thing was best left to the specialists.
Mia Shaw stood to the side, watching Anne Sutton. "He’s not your kid, so why are you so worked up? You’re acting like you and Charles Prescott had him together!"
Anne Sutton shot Mia Shaw a look. "How are you taking care of this child? Mia Shaw, don’t tell me you went home and abused him again last night."
"How did I abuse him?" Mia Shaw retorted. "Why don’t you look? See if he has any injuries. See if I hit him!"
Anne Sutton looked at the woman, speechless. ’Her arrogance proves she definitely wouldn’t leave any obvious evidence.’
Just then, the doctor came out and said to Mia Shaw, "His fever is very high. He should be hospitalized for a couple of days for observation."
"Does he have to be hospitalized?" Mia Shaw said. "Can’t he just take medicine? I have to work. Where am I supposed to find the time to take care of him in the hospital?"
Anne Sutton watched Mia Shaw, who looked like she absolutely did not want to be burdened by the child.
She said to Mia, "The child is this sick, and you’re still only thinking about yourself."
"If it’s so easy for you to say, then you take care of him!"
’She thought that since Anne Sutton and Charles Prescott had such a bad relationship, there was no way she’d be willing to take care of this child.’
Who would have thought that Anne Sutton would look at Mia Shaw, grit her teeth, and say, "Fine! I’ll take care of him."
Mia Shaw was surprised that Anne Sutton actually agreed. She said to her, "You’re the one who said it! In that case, thank you so much, Dr. Sutton."
With that, she turned and left, washing her hands of the matter.
Anne Sutton watched her leave and sighed.
She entered the hospital room. Leo was lying in bed, hooked up to an IV drip. Anne Sutton looked at the little boy and asked the doctor beside her, "What’s his condition? Is it serious?"
