Ian looked at Anne Sutton and asked, "So, does Mommy like him?"

Anne Sutton sat down and told Ian, "Your father is planning to bring him home to live with us."

"So, is he Dad’s child, too?"

Anne Sutton thought for a moment, then decided to tell Ian the truth. "He’s not. He’s your uncle’s son. It’s just... your uncle passed away a long time ago, so he might have to share your dad from now on. Finn has grown up without a father, so if he comes to live with us, you have to be nice to him and get along, okay?"

Upon hearing what Anne Sutton said, Ian just replied, "Oh."

Seeing his dazed expression, Anne Sutton said, "Ian is a good boy, right?"

"Mhm." Ian was very pleased with his mother’s praise.

...

On the street, Claire Abbott held Finn’s hand and said nervously to Nathan Fawcett, "Mr. Fawcett, you can go back now! There’s no need to escort us."

Nathan Fawcett gazed at Finn, then said to Claire Abbott, "I’d like to talk to you about Finn."

"Finn?" Claire Abbott’s gaze fell upon the boy.

Nathan Fawcett said, "I want to bring Finn to Veridia."

"My work and my life are here," Claire Abbott said, looking at Nathan Fawcett. "How am I supposed to go with you?"

Nathan Fawcett said, "Finn is old enough for school. Let him come live at my house. That way, I can take care of him."

Hearing this, Claire Abbott said, "I’m not sure that’s a good idea. He’s always been by my side, and he can be a bit of a handful. I’m worried he’ll cause trouble for you and your son if he goes to your home. Besides... your wife probably won’t be happy about it, will she?"

"She won’t be," Nathan Fawcett said. "They’re both very good people. They’ve only just met, so they don’t know each other well yet. Today was a misunderstanding. As long as I’m around, I won’t let Finn get hurt."

Nathan Fawcett looked at Finn. ’This poor little guy...’

Seeing the boy, Nathan Fawcett simply couldn’t pretend he didn’t know about this.

And he couldn’t just leave Finn out here in the countryside, ignored and uncared for.

"Are you sure about this?" Claire Abbott asked.

Nathan Fawcett said, "Given your current situation, raising him alone is too much of a burden. You have your own life to live. Leave him to me. He’s a child of the Linden Family; he should return to the Linden Family."

It would be one thing if she were his birth mother, but Claire Abbott wasn’t.

Nathan Fawcett looked at her and said, "It must have been hard for you, raising him all these years. If there’s any way I can help you, I’ll do my best."

’She raised a child for the Linden Family for so long. It’s only right to give her something in return.’

Hearing Nathan Fawcett’s offer, Claire Abbott glanced at Finn and said, "That won’t be necessary. I don’t need anything. Finn is a sweet boy. When my sister passed away, she entrusted him to me, so I was just doing what I should. If you’re really taking him back, I only hope he won’t be mistreated by the Linden Family."

Nathan Fawcett nodded. "Alright."

"Alright then," Claire Abbott said. "I’ll take him home with me for today. When do you leave? I’ll bring him to you before you go."

"Tomorrow," Nathan Fawcett said. "I’ll come get him tomorrow."

Claire Abbott nodded and said to Finn, "Finn, say goodbye to the nice uncle."

"He’s not an uncle, he’s my daddy," Finn insisted.

’Nathan Fawcett looked exactly like his daddy!’

’This *is* my daddy.’

Claire Abbott sighed helplessly and led Finn away.

When Nathan Fawcett returned home, he found Ian cradled in Anne Sutton’s arms.

Nathan Fawcett looked at his son. "Why are you letting your mother carry you?"

His tone was stern.

Anne Sutton shot him a look. "Why are you being so harsh? I already spoke with Ian. He won’t do it again."

Seeing Anne Sutton’s gaze on him, Nathan Fawcett sat down. "I just spoke with Ms. Abbott. I’m bringing Finn back with us tomorrow."

Anne Sutton said, "It’s your decision. You don’t need to discuss it with me."

’She and Nathan Fawcett weren’t married. There was no reason he had to discuss his decisions with her.’

Nathan Fawcett looked at her, wanting to say something, but in the end, he could only let out a helpless sigh.

After his conversation with Anne Sutton, he went upstairs to see Master Linden.

...

「The next morning.」

Nathan Fawcett went to Claire Abbott’s home and picked up Finn.

He brought the boy over not only to take him back to Veridia, but also to let his grandfather see him.

’After all, this was Ethan Linden’s son!’

Nathan Fawcett led Finn to stand before Master Linden and prompted the boy to greet him.

Master Linden looked at the little boy and said, "I never imagined Ethan had a child."

"I know," Nathan Fawcett said. "I didn’t expect it either."

When Caleb Summers told him yesterday that there was a boy who looked just like Ian, he hadn’t believed it.

But after seeing him with his own eyes, he knew Caleb Summers hadn’t been lying.

Because he was returning to Veridia with Nathan Fawcett today, Claire Abbott had specially dressed Finn in a handsome outfit.

He looked so clean and neat, making the resemblance to Ian even more striking.

Master Linden said, "If your mother knew, she would be overjoyed."

"That’s what I was thinking, too," Nathan Fawcett replied.

"But..." Master Linden hesitated. "What does Anne Sutton have to say about this?"

"Anne is a wonderful person, and she loves children," Nathan Fawcett said. "I’ve already spoken to her about it."

’He knew Anne.’

’Once she spends some time with Finn, everything will be alright.’

Master Linden looked at Nathan Fawcett and said, "When you get back, you should go ahead and make proper preparations to marry Anne."

Hearing this, Nathan Fawcett looked at Master Linden. "Grandfather, you’re not against me and Anne being together anymore?"

Because of Master Linden’s previous opposition, Anne Sutton and Nathan Fawcett had already agreed they wouldn’t get married.

’He didn’t want to force her into something she found to be a hassle.’

’But if his grandfather no longer objected, then there was hope again!’

Hearing this, Master Linden shot him a look. "I stopped objecting a long time ago. You’re only just now noticing?"

A smile played on Nathan Fawcett’s lips. "Thank you, Grandfather. I’ll discuss it with Anne when we get back."

"You’d better be quick about it," Master Linden said. "Nathan, I don’t have much time left."

’He knew his own body.’

’He had lived such a long life...’

’There weren’t many days left.’

’Before his time was up, he just wanted to see Nathan get married.’

A pang of sorrow went through Nathan Fawcett’s heart as he heard Master Linden’s words.

He remembered how his grandfather used to be so full of life and spirit.

Over the past two years, his health had truly deteriorated.

After Finn’s meeting with the master of the house was over, Nathan Fawcett walked out.

Caleb Summers was waiting at the door. His gaze fell on Finn as he asked Nathan Fawcett, "Are you really planning to take him home with you?"

"What else can I do?" Nathan Fawcett countered. "I can’t just ignore him, can I?"

"And what about Anne?" Caleb Summers asked. "Won’t she have something to say about this?"

Nathan Fawcett shot him a look. "What, do I need her permission for everything I do?"
