Married the Sick Uncle – Just Waiting to Inherit His Fortune
Chapter 445: Ethan Linden’s Child
He put some food on Finn’s plate, watching the little guy.
When he first saw Finn, he was surprised too, noticing how much he resembled Ian.
Finn was very well-behaved while eating. You could tell he was a very independent child.
While Nathan Fawcett’s attention was completely on Finn, Anne Sutton and Ian had more or less finished eating.
Anne Sutton said, "I’m going to my room to rest."
With that, she stood up.
Ian asked, "Mom, are you done eating?"
"I’m done."
Anne Sutton went upstairs.
Ian sat to the side, curiously watching the boy named Finn, who was about his age.
Anne Sutton returned to her room and sat down, feeling like her mind was a complete mess.
Before long, Nathan Fawcett pushed the door open and walked in. She glanced at him, and her expression instantly turned cold.
Seeing that she wasn’t speaking to him, Nathan Fawcett said, "Honey."
"..." Anne Sutton pulled her phone out of her pocket, started looking at it, and pretended not to see him.
Nathan Fawcett sat down beside her and said, "Why are you ignoring me?"
Anne Sutton turned around, showing him her back so he couldn’t see her face.
Seeing how angry she was, Nathan Fawcett said, "This thing with Finn... it’s not what you think. You’ve misunderstood."
"You don’t need to explain anything to me," Anne Sutton said. "After all, you and I have nothing to do with each other. It’s your business how many children you have out there. But... I hope you get one thing straight. Don’t let just any child call me ’Mom.’ I haven’t given birth to that many kids! Nathan Fawcett, you and I aren’t that close."
Hearing how clearly she was drawing a line between them, Nathan Fawcett knew she was genuinely furious.
He said, "Finn isn’t my son. Don’t be angry. He’s Ethan Linden’s son. I only found out today myself. When I went over just now, he started calling me ’Dad’ the moment he saw me. I told him I wasn’t, but he insisted."
"..." Anne Sutton didn’t look at Nathan Fawcett.
Nathan Fawcett crouched down, took her hand, and met her gaze. "Is your phone really that good-looking?"
"Better-looking than you."
Anne Sutton didn’t want to meet his eyes and desperately avoided his gaze.
Nathan Fawcett looked at her and said, "I had no idea Ms. Sutton could get so jealous."
"Jealous?" Anne Sutton retorted. "Do I look like I’m jealous? I’m angry! Don’t you get it?"
Nathan Fawcett said, "I was just about to come discuss this with you. As you know, Ethan Linden is gone now. I want to adopt Finn and have him live with us. He’s so young, and his mother is gone too. Right now, he’s living with his aunt. I want him to come back to Veridia and go to school with Ian. What do you think?"
Anne Sutton looked at him and said, "What does what you want to do have to do with me?"
"You’re the woman I love. Of course I have to discuss it with you!"
"Discuss it?" Anne Sutton said. "But you didn’t discuss it with me before! You’ve already let someone else start calling you ’Dad.’ If I say no now, won’t that make me the bad guy?"
Nathan Fawcett stared at her. "The child was born after Ethan passed away. We all used to think Ethan liked Stella Shields. We never imagined he’d met another woman, let alone that they had a child without telling anyone! Ethan was a good friend of mine. I can’t just ignore his son. Anne, you can understand that, right?"
"..." Anne Sutton didn’t reply to Nathan Fawcett.
It was clear he was being very assertive about this matter.
Anne Sutton didn’t say a word.
Even though he had explained that the child was Ethan’s, Anne Sutton still felt a little uneasy.
She had just been thinking she’d been deceived, and her anger hadn’t subsided yet.
But this was all Nathan Fawcett’s fault.
He never even considered discussing things with her before acting...
He kept her in the dark, letting her know nothing.
This couldn’t help but remind her of the time Nathan Fawcett had taken Ian away without telling her, keeping her in the dark back then as well.
Those unpleasant memories flooded back, and Anne Sutton felt a knot in her stomach. She had no desire to speak with Nathan Fawcett.
Just then, there was a knock on the door. A maid stood in the doorway and said, "Mr. Fawcett, the young master made Finn cry."
"..." Hearing this, Nathan Fawcett frowned and went downstairs. Anne Sutton, feeling uneasy, followed him down.
In the living room was a young woman who looked to be in her early twenties. She was holding Finn and saying, "Don’t cry, Finn. Auntie’s here."
Nathan Fawcett asked, "What happened?"
Ian sat to the side, not daring to look at Nathan Fawcett.
The maid said, "After you two went upstairs, Young Master Ian tried to take his food, and then Finn started crying."
Hearing this, the woman shot Finn a sharp look. "Why were you fighting with him? Are you a silly boy? If you want something to eat, it’s not like we don’t have food at home. Come on, Auntie will take you home."
Ian sat to the side, watching the scene unfold without a word.
Nathan Fawcett looked at Ian and said, "Why on earth were you trying to take his food? Is there anything you want to eat that we don’t have at home? Why would you act like that?"
Ian said, "I don’t like him."
"..." When Nathan Fawcett heard this, his face darkened.
He looked at Ian in disbelief, never having imagined that Ian would dislike Finn.
For a moment, he didn’t know what to say.
Ian saw Anne Sutton and went to her side, taking her hand. "Mom."
Anne Sutton looked at her son and stroked his head.
Claire Abbott had already stood up. Taking Finn by the hand, she said to Nathan Fawcett, "Mr. Fawcett, I’ll take Finn home now."
Nathan Fawcett said, "I’ll see you out."
With that, he walked out the door, intending to talk to Claire Abbott about Finn anyway.
...
Anne Sutton stood to the side, watching as Nathan Fawcett left with Finn. Her gaze then fell on Ian. Looking at the little guy, she asked gently, "How did you make him cry?"
Ian said, "Mom, does Dad want him instead of me now?"
Hearing Ian’s words, Anne Sutton couldn’t help but let out a small laugh. "You silly goose, why would you think that?"
"Then why were you unhappy when you saw him?" Ian asked. "I’m not you and Dad’s only treasure anymore."
"You are my only treasure," Anne Sutton said. "Mom will love you forever."
Hearing this, Ian said, "Thanks, Mom."
"You can’t do things like that again!" Anne Sutton thought about the boy named Finn. From what Nathan Fawcett had said, the little guy had never known his father, who had passed away before he was even born. Now his mother was gone too, leaving him to live with his aunt.
Thinking about it that way, his situation was truly pitiful.
Anne Sutton’s gaze fell on Ian. She remembered when she was pregnant with him, back when Nathan Fawcett had been on the verge of death. At the time, she had also thought that her child might be born without a father.
Although Ian was fortunate enough to grow up with his father by his side, Finn wasn’t so lucky.
Because of this, her sympathy for Finn deepened.
