Married the Sick Uncle – Just Waiting to Inherit His Fortune
Chapter 443: I Really Couldn’t Tell
Only now did she realize this place was truly worth it.
Everything was just so beautiful.
It gave her the feeling that the trip was well worth it.
Ian got out of the car as well. "Mommy, it’s so pretty here!"
Anne Sutton looked at the little guy, picked him up, and said, "You like it, don’t you?"
Ian nodded.
Just then, Caleb Summers walked over. "Nathan!"
Anne Sutton turned her head and glanced at this big pain in the neck.
Lately, Anne Sutton couldn’t stand the sight of Caleb Summers. It was all because of the incident with Charles Prescott; he had spouted nonsense in front of Nathan Fawcett.
Thank goodness Nathan Fawcett hadn’t taken it seriously!
Otherwise, Caleb Summers’s words could have very well started a fight between the two of them.
Seeing Caleb Summers now, Anne Sutton’s expression darkened. "What are you doing here?"
’I thought Nathan Fawcett just asked me to come, but...’
’Caleb Summers came too?’
Caleb Summers said, "Hello, sister-in-law."
"Who are you calling sister-in-law?" Anne Sutton shot him a glare.
Caleb Summers said, "Are you still mad about last time?"
Anne Sutton ignored him and looked at Ian. "Let’s go."
Then she walked away, holding Ian.
Caleb Summers watched Anne Sutton’s retreating back, then his gaze fell on Nathan Fawcett. "She’s still mad at me! I was just trying to get even for you guys."
He had been furious when he saw Charles Prescott, so he just wanted to get revenge for Anne Sutton and Nathan Fawcett.
He never expected to offend Anne Sutton in the process.
Nathan Fawcett glanced at him and said, "You talk too much."
Caleb Summers followed behind Nathan Fawcett, starting to talk to him about work.
He knew Nathan Fawcett was coming here for a getaway, so he came along! This way, they wouldn’t have to postpone their work discussions.
Caleb Summers had a bit of a workaholic streak.
...
Anne Sutton walked along the side of the road, holding Ian’s hand. The area was flanked by either forests or rice paddies, and the scenery was lovely.
She had brought her camera, but it was still in the car. Thinking of this, Anne Sutton felt a pang of regret; she should have brought it with her.
Now she could only use her phone to take pictures of her son.
Nathan Fawcett and Caleb Summers had followed them, but they kept some distance behind.
Anne Sutton looked up, and her eyes inadvertently fell on the two men. Seeing them made her a little angry.
’Wherever Nathan Fawcett goes, Caleb Summers is sure to follow!’
By now, Caleb Summers had mostly finished his work chat with Nathan Fawcett, and he stood off to the side.
Nathan Fawcett walked over to Anne Sutton. "I’ll take a picture of you and our son."
"No thanks. Why don’t you go keep him company!" Anne Sutton shot a glare at the man standing on the ridge between the fields.
Hearing her words, Nathan Fawcett gave a helpless smile. "I didn’t ask him to come."
"Like hell I believe you."
"He found out I was coming here and insisted on tagging along! But I really didn’t ask him to come."
"Does it make a difference?" Anne Sutton said. "If you hadn’t told him, how would he know you were coming here? I didn’t realize you two were so close!"
Although they often bickered and teased each other, the two were the best of friends, incredibly close.
Seeing them like this, Anne Sutton felt a surge of irritation.
Nathan Fawcett glanced at Caleb Summers and said, "You should head back first."
Caleb Summers said, "Ian, come on, Uncle Summers will take you to do something fun."
Ian glanced at his mother, then said to Caleb Summers, "I don’t want to go. I want to stay with my mommy."
Her son’s words filled Anne Sutton’s heart with warmth.
She looked at the little guy and smiled. ’My son is so reliable!’
’Not like Nathan Fawcett at all.’
’He and Caleb Summers are two of a kind.’
For some reason, Anne Sutton felt that lately, Nathan Fawcett was always doing things to make her angry and uncomfortable.
’Maybe it’s because we’ve gotten too close, and the novelty has worn off.’
...
So, Caleb Summers headed back first.
Anne Sutton and Nathan Fawcett strolled around with Ian, took some photos, and enjoyed the breeze before the family of three finally headed back.
On the way back, Ian got too tired to walk and was carried on Nathan Fawcett’s shoulders.
Anne Sutton watched the man doting on his son and couldn’t help but smile.
She loved watching Nathan Fawcett interact with Ian.
When the father and son were together, it always felt so full of love!
When they returned to the courtyard, they saw a middle-aged couple standing in front of Caleb Summers, talking to him about something.
Anne Sutton looked at the middle-aged man and woman, whom she had never seen before. She asked, "Who are those two?"
Nathan Fawcett glanced over and said, "Those are Caleb Summers’s parents."
"What are his parents doing here?"
"Their family lives next door," Nathan Fawcett said. "His parents live here often."
Anne Sutton glanced at Nathan Fawcett. "Really? I never knew."
Nathan Fawcett said, "He was just stopping by to see his parents. I told you I didn’t ask him to come! And you still didn’t believe me. You just love to misunderstand me!"
He said it with a mock-aggrieved expression.
Only then did Anne Sutton realize she had been overthinking things!
She just hadn’t realized that not only were Nathan Fawcett and Caleb Summers close, but their family homes were right next to each other. They used to be neighbors.
’But it makes sense when you think about it!’
’The rich hang out with the rich.’
’It’s only natural that they’re close!’
...
Anne Sutton said to Nathan Fawcett, "I want to get some water."
"Let’s go inside then."
They went inside, and a maid poured a glass of water for Anne Sutton.
Anne Sutton was holding the glass and drinking when she saw Caleb Summers’s parents walk in.
Mrs. Summers looked at Nathan Fawcett and said, "Nathan!"
Nathan Fawcett replied, "Hello, Mrs. Summers."
Mrs. Summers smiled, her gaze falling on Anne Sutton. She said to Nathan Fawcett, "This must be your girlfriend!"
Because Caleb Summers’s parents were often here instead of in Veridia, this was truly the first time Anne Sutton had met them.
Nathan Fawcett said, "Yes. This is Anne, my fiancée."
Mrs. Summers said, "A pleasure to meet you, Ms. Sutton."
"Hello, Mr. and Mrs. Summers," Anne Sutton greeted them before continuing to drink her water.
Mrs. Summers said to Nathan Fawcett, "We came by to see the Old Master. Nathan, has our Caleb been causing you any trouble lately?"
"Him?" Nathan Fawcett gave Caleb Summers a thoughtful look.
Caleb Summers shot him a pleading look, terrified that Nathan Fawcett would expose all his shortcomings.
He was already pretty unreliable on a normal day. If Nathan Fawcett told her everything, he’d probably get an earful from his mother until his ears fell off.
Nathan Fawcett said, "He’s been great."
Hearing Nathan Fawcett’s words, Caleb Summers breathed a sigh of relief.
Mrs. Summers said, "You always cover for him! If he’s being unreliable, you need to call him out on it."
Although the Summers Family had their own company, Caleb Summers had always worked at the Linden Group. Mrs. Summers just wanted him to learn more things there.
Nathan Fawcett said, "I will."
After the pleasantries were exchanged, Mrs. Summers and Mr. Summers went upstairs to see the Old Master.
Anne Sutton finished her water and put the glass down.
Ian said, "Mommy, I want more water."
Anne Sutton gave him some more water.
After he was done, she walked over holding Ian, glanced at Caleb Summers on the sofa, and said, "I never would have guessed. You’re that scared of your parents."
’No wonder he insists on living on his own!’
