Married the Sick Uncle – Just Waiting to Inherit His Fortune
Chapter 424: Demolishing the Decor
"A loss?" Sharon scoffed. "Then what’s the point of keeping it? You can’t possibly expect me to leave this house for you to live in, can you?"
Mrs. Hayes said, "This is the only house our family has. If you sell it, where will David live? You’ve gone back to the Sutton family, and it’s not like you’re short on money! Do you really have to drive us into a corner?"
"This is what you deserve!" Sharon said, looking at Mrs. Hayes and David Hayes, remembering all the mistreatment she had endured while she was pregnant.
They were the ones who, step by step, had forced her into becoming the person she was today, making her lose all hope.
She had once been so full of hope for her future, but now she saw nothing but darkness.
David Hayes glanced at his mother.
His gaze fell on Sharon. "Sharon, have you really thought this through? Please, don’t leave me. Without you, I don’t know how I’ll go on."
"..." Listening to him, Sharon started to laugh. "If you can’t go on, then you might as well just die."
"How can you say something so awful?" Mrs. Hayes couldn’t take it anymore and snapped at Sharon.
Sharon retorted, "I’ve already died once. Why shouldn’t the people who put me through this hell die too?"
"..." Mrs. Hayes said, "We weren’t the ones who harmed you! It was the Evans family!"
"You’re a master at shifting blame," Sharon said. "You adore Lucy Todd so much, treating her like your real daughter-in-law, while you never even gave me a second glance! It’s ridiculous when you think about it. Me, Sharon Sutton... even at my worst, I could have easily found a family a hundred, even a thousand times better than yours! But no, I was blind enough to choose you! It’s bad enough that you’re poor, but you have the audacity to look down on me! I have no idea what gives you the right."
’The Hayes family was poor, with terrible living conditions... Even with the Sutton family’s company gone now, I still grew up well-off!’
’Even now, after Sean Sutton sold the company, Mrs. Sutton still got a hefty sum of money.’
’And yet, I just had to fall for David Hayes...’
’...and let his family walk all over me.’
’Mrs. Hayes bullied me so relentlessly!’
’But I always told myself to keep the peace for the sake of my baby.’
’I thought David loved me!’
’As if he ever loved me!’
’All he ever wanted was to use me to get promoted, get a raise, and live the life he’d always dreamed of!’
...
Mrs. Hayes fell silent as she listened to Sharon’s words.
Sharon’s gaze fell on David Hayes. "I must have been blind to ever marry you! Just sign the divorce papers."
With that said, she grabbed her belongings, walked to the door, and addressed the bodyguards who had come with her. "I paid for everything in this house, all the renovations. Have someone come back later and smash it all."
Hearing that she planned to have the house wrecked, Mrs. Hayes looked at her in disbelief. "Are you insane? After spending so much money on this place..."
"And I was the one who paid for it!" Sharon retorted. "My mother raised me my entire life, and I never paid her back. Instead, I took her money and let you all benefit from it."
Back then, she had constantly asked Mrs. Sutton for money to renovate the house.
All the money had come from her family.
’Thinking back on it now, I was so out of line!’
Now that she no longer wanted to live here, she would just have everything destroyed.
When the men sent by the bodyguards arrived and started smashing things, Mrs. Hayes stood to the side, wailing. She wanted to fight them but couldn’t stop them.
Everything had been bought with money!
A single chair cost thousands!
At the time of purchase, Mrs. Hayes had thought Sharon was being too extravagant.
Now, seeing it all being smashed to pieces, her heart ached with regret.
...
Sharon stood aside, showing not an ounce of pity. Watching Mrs. Hayes’s display, she found it utterly ridiculous.
...
By the time everything was done, the sky had already grown dark. Anne and Sharon Sutton were in the car on their way home. Anne looked at her sister and asked, "Feeling better now?"
"Yeah, much better!" Sharon said.
At that, she let out a derisive laugh. "Tell me, Anne," she said, "what was I thinking back then? Letting that old hag walk all over me. Does she even deserve to?"
’And I let Mrs. Hayes humiliate me, bully me, and even call me a homewrecker!’
’Thinking back on how lovesick I was, I really wish I could go back in time and strangle my past self.’
"It’s not too late to realize it now," Anne said. "At least you won’t be bullied by her for the rest of your life."
’If Sharon had stayed with the Hayes family, Mrs. Hayes would have looked down on her forever.’
’They probably thought that because Sharon married David, they could treat her however they wanted.’
’Their son was so ’excellent’ that Sharon was willing to give up everything just to be with him! They must have thought Sharon couldn’t possibly live without David.’
’So many people are like that.’
’When you choose to be the nice one, they don’t appreciate it. They just think it’s because they’re so amazing.’
’They only ever think about themselves!’
’Their egos just get bigger and bigger...’
Sharon said, "I’ve been holding it in for so many days. Seeing her looking so pathetic really made me feel a lot better."
Besides, it’s not like she was ever going to live in that house again.
Anne looked at her and smiled. "Alright, are you tired? Get some rest."
"I’m fine," Sharon said, looking at Anne. "Sis, thank goodness I have you! What would our family do without you? Dad only has eyes for his other daughter and her family now... he’s completely forgotten about us!"
’Without Anne, they probably would have been left with no options when their parents divorced.’
’It’s even possible they might not have gotten divorced at all.’
Anne said, "The world is fair in its own way. As long as you have the courage to change your circumstances, even fate will smile upon you. The most dangerous people are those who refuse to change, who prefer to trap themselves in their own little bubble."
"Yeah," Sharon agreed.
...
「The next morning」 The mother and her two daughters boarded a flight back to Veridia.
Nathan Fawcett was there to pick them up.
When Anne Sutton saw him, she said, "You actually came."
She knew he was usually busy in the mornings.
"I finished up my work and came over," Nathan Fawcett said.
Anne looked at him. "Let’s go."
’On his way over, Nathan had been thinking that he would give her a huge hug the moment he saw her.’
But when he saw Mrs. Sutton and Sharon standing there watching, he felt a little shy and restrained himself.
He had his men take Mrs. Sutton’s and Sharon’s luggage to the car, then accompanied them back to Anne’s place.
As soon as Mrs. Sutton arrived, she headed straight for her restaurant without even taking a sip of water.
Sharon stayed home to rest.
Anne let her have the same room she’d stayed in during her previous visit.
She and Nathan first went to the Linden family’s home to see Ian.
While Anne had been away, Ian had been staying with the Linden family.
In the car, Nathan said to Anne, "Actually, it’s a good thing your sister is here."
"Oh?" Anne looked at Nathan, knowing he hadn’t been particularly fond of Sharon before.
