Married the Sick Uncle – Just Waiting to Inherit His Fortune
Chapter 412: You Said It
"Your mom’s back?" Sean Sutton hadn’t known, only registering it now that Sharon Sutton had spoken.
Sharon Sutton said, "You didn’t know?"
She’d assumed...
Sean Sutton said, "Is she there with you? Let me talk to her."
Sharon Sutton glanced at her mother and said, "Dad wants to talk to you."
With a dark expression, Mrs. Sutton took the phone. She wasn’t afraid of Sean Sutton anymore. In a low voice, she asked, "What do you want?"
"Are you at the house? I’m coming over! I have something to tell you."
"Whatever it is, you can just say it over the phone! I don’t have time to see you now."
Sean Sutton snorted. "It’s about Sharon. What else did you think I’d want to talk to you about? I have photos to show you! They have to do with David Hayes! If you don’t come, I’ll send them directly to her."
"..." Mrs. Sutton frowned. She glanced over at Sharon Sutton, who was sitting beside her eating her meal. Her expression darkened...
She arranged a place to meet Sean Sutton, finished breakfast at home, and left.
Sean Sutton was sitting in a restaurant, eating, when Mrs. Sutton walked in and stood in front of him.
He looked up and saw Mrs. Sutton. He hadn’t seen her in a while, and now, seeing her again, Sean Sutton was momentarily stunned.
’This...’
’Is this still his plain-faced, frumpy wife?’
In his memory, Mrs. Sutton had spent her days at home cooking and raising their child. He’d grown tired of looking at her face long ago. He never expected her to suddenly look so much prettier, her entire aura improved.
Mrs. Sutton said, "So what are these photos you dragged me all the way here for?"
"Have a seat first."
Sean Sutton’s tone softened unconsciously.
Mrs. Sutton sat down, staring at him coldly.
Sean Sutton presented the photos. "Take a look. Is this David Hayes or not?"
Mrs. Sutton took the phone and glanced at the photos on the screen. The David Hayes in the picture was wearing the same clothes he had on when he returned from Veridia yesterday...
’This was taken last night, and the woman with him is clearly not Sharon!’
Mrs. Sutton asked, "Where did you get these?"
"Yvonne took them when she was out last night! See? I told you that man was unreliable, but you all defended him, insisting they get together! You even thought I went too far when I hit Sharon!"
He had always been vehemently opposed to Sharon Sutton and David Hayes’s relationship!
He had even hit Sharon Sutton over it!
Mrs. Sutton’s face was grim. "How could he do something like this!"
"I’m just giving you a heads-up! Look at him! Your wonderful son-in-law! And what kind of daughter do you think you can raise? You’ve spoiled Sharon rotten! She can’t even see people for who they are."
"Didn’t she get that from me?" Mrs. Sutton said, looking at Sean Sutton coldly.
Her retort silenced Sean Sutton for a moment.
He awkwardly changed the subject. "By the way, what are you doing here? Not enjoying the good life with your daughter anymore? And that video from before—did you two put it on the internet?"
"..." Mrs. Sutton looked at him. "How would I know who posted the video?"
Sean Sutton said, "I get cursed out every time I leave the house now. You must be happy!"
"Of course I’m happy." Mrs. Sutton stood up. "I’m heading back."
Now that she had seen the photos, there was no need to waste any more time talking nonsense with him.
Mrs. Sutton walked out quickly.
Sean Sutton remained seated, his eyes fixed on her retreating back for a long time.
He hadn’t regretted the divorce before, but seeing her like this, he was starting to.
The woman who used to be so meek and submissive whenever he came home now wouldn’t even spare him a glance!
It was a blow to his masculine pride, and he felt a strange urge to win back her attention.
When Mrs. Sutton got home, she found Sharon Sutton sitting on the sofa watching TV. Looking at her daughter and remembering the photos she’d seen at Sean Sutton’s, she felt a wave of helplessness.
Sharon Sutton turned around, glanced at Mrs. Sutton, and asked, "Mom, where’d you go?"
Mrs. Sutton stood by the door, changing her shoes. She avoided her daughter’s eyes and said, "I had to step out for something. I have another errand to run in a bit. Is there anything you’d like to eat? I can get it for you."
Sharon Sutton said, "I’m fine with whatever you cook."
Mrs. Sutton replied, "Alright, then."
...
David Hayes was already at the office.
He picked up the list of new hires, glanced at it, and noticed Lucy Todd’s name was missing. He immediately summoned someone from the HR department.
The manager saw David Hayes and said, "President Hayes, what can I do for you?"
"What about Lucy Todd, the one I referred? Why isn’t she on the list? I personally recommended her, and you rejected her?"
He had already put in a good word with HR when Lucy Todd came in for her interview.
Hearing David Hayes, the manager said, "Well... that was President Linden’s decision!"
"President Linden? Noah Linden?" David Hayes looked at the manager in disbelief. "He’s in charge of hiring now?"
"President Linden is very responsible. He often insists on handling many matters personally."
David Hayes gritted his teeth. "I’ll go talk to him!"
’Time to teach him a lesson, or he’ll really start to think he’s something special!’
With that, David Hayes marched straight to Noah Linden’s office.
Noah Linden had been a pillar of the Linden Group. While managing the entire Linden Group on his own would have been a challenge, handling matters here at Fawcett Group was quite simple for him.
David Hayes barged in, looked at Noah Linden, and demanded, "Linden, what is the meaning of this?"
Noah Linden, who wore glasses and had a scholarly air about him, looked up as he entered and asked, "Is something wrong?"
"Why didn’t you hire the person I referred?" David Hayes slammed the list down in front of Noah Linden.
Noah Linden glanced at the hiring list. "Do you have an issue with anyone on this list?"
David Hayes said, "I just want to know why you rejected Lucy Todd, the candidate I recommended. You’re aware of my relationship with Anne Sutton, aren’t you? And you’re also aware of who owns this company, I presume?"
At this, Noah Linden looked up at David Hayes and said, "I don’t understand what you mean."
"Stop playing dumb!" David Hayes shot back. "Anne Sutton is my sister! She put you in charge of this company, and here you are, abusing your authority and deliberately rejecting qualified people. Just wait until I say a few bad things about you to her. You’ll be sorry."
Hearing this, Noah Linden said, "Then go ahead and tell her."
David Hayes looked at his completely unfazed expression. "You’re really not scared?"
"The reason I’m personally supervising recruitment is to prevent this company from hiring any more people like you! Your performance is abysmal! You had the worst results last month. As for this Lucy Todd you mentioned, I’ve reviewed her resume. I fail to see a single qualification that makes her suitable for any position at this company."
"..." Hearing Noah Linden’s words, David Hayes stared at him, a fire of indignation welling up inside him that left him speechless.
Noah Linden said, "If you’re not happy about it, feel free to go and report me to Ms. Sutton. I don’t mind either way."
"You said that!" David Hayes pointed a finger in Noah Linden’s face before turning on his heel and storming out.
’That Noah Linden is infuriating!’
