Married the Sick Uncle – Just Waiting to Inherit His Fortune
Chapter 411: What Are You Calling For?
Nathan Fawcett opened his eyes and asked, "When did you get here?"
"I’ve been here for a little while," Anne Sutton said. "You were sleeping so soundly, I didn’t want to wake you."
"Stealing a kiss?" Nathan Fawcett looked at her, his expression complex.
Anne Sutton hugged him, resting her head on his chest. "Can’t I? Why aren’t you up yet? Sleeping in?"
"I didn’t get to sleep until five."
"That late?" she asked, looking at him.
Nathan Fawcett nodded. "Grandpa wasn’t feeling well last night, so I stayed with him a little longer. Did your sister and her husband go back?"
"They did. My mother went back with them."
Anne Sutton said, "I didn’t have anything to do, so I came to see you! Where’s Ian?"
"He’s probably in class right now." The tutor was the same one Master Linden had hired previously.
Anne Sutton looked at Nathan Fawcett and said, "You’re certainly relaxed about it."
Nathan Fawcett said, "Our son is growing up. If you’re too controlling, he’ll just find you annoying. Have you eaten yet?"
"I already ate."
"You’re not working today?"
"Didn’t I tell you I was off today?" she asked, looking at Nathan Fawcett. "Your memory is terrible! Do you not take anything I say to heart?"
His survival instincts kicking in, Nathan Fawcett quickly said, "No, of course not. I’m just groggy from sleep."
Anne Sutton stayed and chatted with him in his room for a while, but since Nathan needed to sleep, she eventually let him be.
...
Mrs. Sutton, Sharon Sutton, and David Hayes returned to Westhaven.
After lunch, David Hayes went out.
As it was getting dark, Sharon Sutton gave him a call. "Where are you?"
"Something came up at the company," David Hayes said. "So I had to come back here. Why don’t you have dinner with Mom?"
Hearing this, Sharon Sutton was speechless, but she couldn’t argue, so she had no choice but to accept it.
She hung up, and Mrs. Sutton asked, "Is he coming home for dinner?"
"He said something came up at the office. He’s not coming home for dinner!"
"..." Mrs. Sutton said, "It’s all right. We can just eat by ourselves."
’She was already used to it.’
’Back when she was at home raising the children, Sean Sutton had been just like this!’
’Of course. If he wasn’t "working overtime" and staying out, how could he have fathered two other children without her even knowing?’
’She had been so foolish back then!’
Now, looking at Sharon Sutton sitting across from her, Mrs. Sutton asked, "Are things going well between you and David?"
"Things are fine," said Sharon Sutton.
"But you don’t seem happy," Mrs. Sutton observed, looking at her.
Sharon Sutton said, "It’s my fault. I’m pregnant, so my moods are always off. He suggested my mom come stay with me. I just find his mother too annoying."
’Mrs. Hayes doesn’t like me, she likes Lucy Todd. I’d rather just be home alone!’
Mrs. Sutton said, "Your sister was always very much against you being with him, you know."
"That’s all in the past," Sharon said. "What’s the point of bringing that up now?"
Seeing her daughter’s reaction, Mrs. Sutton simply picked up her chopsticks, placed some food on Sharon’s plate, and said, "Eat."
...
David Hayes had already returned to his mother’s house. Mrs. Hayes had cooked his favorite dishes, and Lucy Todd was there too. Lucy looked at David and asked, "How did your trip to Veridia go?"
Mrs. Hayes chimed in, "That’s right! Didn’t you say that... what’s-his-name... Charles Prescott, was gone? Did they give you a new role?"
"No." David’s mood soured at the mention of it.
Mrs. Hayes said coldly, "That family completely looks down on us! They’d rather hand the company over to an outsider than give it to you."
Lucy Todd looked at David. "It’s okay, don’t be upset. Things are still pretty good right now, aren’t they?"
David Hayes nodded. "Yeah."
Mrs. Hayes asked, "Didn’t you say you were going to get Lucy a job at your company? What’s the status on that?"
"I’m already working on it," David said. "I’ll go over there tomorrow and see how it’s going."
’He could at least manage to get Lucy onto his team and arrange a simple job for her!’
’After all, he was Anne Sutton’s brother-in-law!’
’Who would dare to object?’
’Especially that Noah Linden...’
’He wasn’t difficult to deal with like Charles Prescott! He seemed easygoing, too.’
’When David saw him, he didn’t give him a second thought.’
After dinner, David and Lucy went downstairs to take out the trash, and they decided to take a stroll around the neighborhood.
Lucy slipped her arm through his and asked, "Sharon’s due soon, isn’t she?"
"Her mother came over to take care of her, so now I don’t have to worry about a thing."
"You’re so busy with work all day, and you have to take care of her on top of that. It must be exhausting. Your mom wanted to help, but Sharon wouldn’t let her. She’s not thinking about you at all."
"I know, right?" David said. "You’re the only one who understands me. Lucy, I wish it were you I married!"
At the mention of this, Lucy smiled. She looked at the man beside her and said, "It doesn’t matter to me. I’m just happy for you and all you’ve achieved."
David Hayes took her hand, and they continued walking.
Yvonne Evans happened to be out that day as well, along with her brother, Dylan Evans. Ever since the video of them confronting Anne Sutton was exposed, the siblings had been cooped up at home, not daring to set foot outside.
They had only snuck out because it was so late, hoping to grab a late-night snack.
Yvonne wore a hat, keeping herself well-hidden.
As she was walking with Dylan, she suddenly spotted David Hayes. Yvonne had worked at the company before, so she recognized David and knew he was Sharon Sutton’s husband.
She never expected to see him now, walking arm-in-arm with another woman—a woman who was clearly not Sharon Sutton!
’Well, well, well!’
’He’s actually cheating!’
Yvonne already couldn’t stand Anne and Sharon Sutton.
After all, in her eyes, those two women had stolen her father away and taken everything that should have belonged to her and her brother.
Seeing her chance, she quickly took out her phone and snapped a photo of David and Lucy together.
"Sis, what are you doing?" Dylan asked.
"Nothing. Let’s go." Yvonne smiled. ’Heh,’ she thought, ’I wonder what Sharon’s reaction will be when she sees this!’
...
The next morning, when Sharon got up, Mrs. Sutton already had breakfast ready for her.
She hadn’t felt this happy in a long time. Sitting at the dining table and eating the healthy breakfast her mother had made, her mood lifted. "Mom, your cooking is delicious."
"If you like it, then eat up," Mrs. Sutton said with a smile, watching her daughter.
Just as she said that, Sharon’s phone rang. She glanced at the screen, and her expression darkened.
"What’s wrong? Who’s calling?" Mrs. Sutton asked.
"It’s my dad."
"Why is he calling you? Don’t tell me he’s trying to get to me and Anne through you now?"
"I don’t know. He hasn’t called me at all recently." He’d probably wanted to get in touch, but...
...knowing Anne and Mrs. Sutton were in Veridia, he hadn’t bothered contacting Sharon much either. With Sharon being pregnant, she might have needed him to take care of her, and he wasn’t about to invite that kind of trouble.
Sharon said, "Let me see what he wants."
With that, she answered the phone. "Dad."
"What are you doing?" Sean Sutton asked.
"I’m eating," Sharon said. "Why are you calling now? Did you find out Mom was back and decide to come bother her?"
