Married the Sick Uncle – Just Waiting to Inherit His Fortune
Chapter 364: I Can Serve You Together With Him
Anne glanced at Leo and suddenly realized it wasn’t entirely impossible.
’Does Charles Prescott think that as long as he has a child, I’ll spare him a glance?’
’There might really be something wrong with his head!’
Nathan Fawcett said, "Since he’s back, I’ll come back for a bit, too. That way, he won’t come and bother you."
Anne Sutton said, "It’s fine. I’m not afraid of him. I’m living with my mom now, so what can he do to me? You go ahead and handle your own business first!"
"The work here is endless," Nathan Fawcett said. "Besides, Ian and I miss you. It’s a good chance for us to come back for a visit."
Hearing this, Anne Sutton nodded. "Alright, just figure out when would be a good time for you."
"Then what about me?" Just as Anne had finished speaking, Caleb Summers’s face popped into the video feed.
Seeing Caleb Summers, Anne was at a loss for words. "..."
She was completely surprised. "Caleb Summers, what are you doing there?"
Nathan Fawcett pushed Caleb Summers away, telling him to get lost. He said to Anne, "He showed up yesterday saying he wants to join the Fawcett Group and come work with me. The guy’s a psycho. Now he’s just freeloading here and won’t leave."
"...That’s not true!" Caleb Summers protested. "Nathan, how can you say that about me? I followed you all the way here! You can’t treat me like this."
The corner of Anne’s mouth twitched. "Caleb Summers, didn’t you say you were done with Nathan? Now you’re pestering him again. Have you no shame?"
Caleb Summers snorted. "You said you were done with him before, too. And look at you now!"
Nathan Fawcett said, "Get out."
"Nathan, I was wrong!"
Anne watched Caleb, the drama queen, and almost burst out laughing.
She asked Caleb, "Aren’t you going to your company anymore?"
Caleb Summers said, "I’ve already resigned. I’ll go back when Nathan goes back. If he never returns, then neither will I. Actually, the Fawcett Group isn’t half bad! With Nathan and me working for you, you should be secretly thrilled, President Sutton."
"..." Anne couldn’t believe what she was hearing. "You’re insane, more like!"
’Someone with his kind of prospects, running off to the Fawcett Group?’
’What did the Fawcett Group ever do to deserve him?’
’No one would give up everything they have at the Linden Group for the Fawcett Group!’
’The Linden Group operates across various industries, and his family even owns a bank. The Fawcett Group isn’t even in the same league!’
"That’s why I say you’re so lucky," Caleb said. "I’m really envious of you."
Anne said sarcastically, "Well, thank you so much!"
Just then, there was a knock on the door. She went to open it and saw Sylvia Warren standing in the doorway.
She had just come from filming and was still in a historical costume, with a long trench coat thrown over it. She was still wearing her stage makeup.
When she saw Anne, she said, "Ms. Sutton."
Anne glanced at Leo and said, "Leo, your mom is here!"
Hearing this, Leo quickly put down his half-finished yogurt and walked over. Seeing Sylvia Warren, he said, "Mommy."
Seeing her son for the first time in a long while, Sylvia Warren swept Leo into a tight hug. "Leo, Mommy missed you so much!"
’It’s been harder than climbing to heaven just to see my own son!’
’He was the son she had watched grow up, after all.’
’But she never imagined Charles Prescott would just separate them on a whim, giving her no chance to see him.’
Anne said, "Take him with you."
Hearing this, Sylvia Warren looked at Anne in astonishment. "But Charles Prescott would never allow it."
"He’s not here right now, is he? How can he stop you? You’re the boy’s mother, so just take him! I have no interest in babysitting for you two."
Sylvia Warren said, "Ms. Sutton, thank you for letting me see my son. You’re a truly good person. I’ve always felt terrible about what happened back then. It was all my fault; I was so naive! I thought having a child meant I could have everything. I thought I could replace you in Charles Prescott’s heart, but I never imagined he never saw me as anything at all."
Anne looked at Sylvia. "What’s past is past. There’s no use talking about it now. Just take the boy and go."
Sylvia glanced at Leo. "But... it’s not a good time for me right now."
"If you don’t want to take him, then you can forget about ever seeing him again! Can’t you see how much Leo misses you?"
Sylvia’s gaze fell upon her son. She thought about the consequences of Charles’s anger, but with her son right in front of her, she couldn’t resist the temptation. She took the child and left.
After Leo was taken away, things became much quieter for Anne.
’I thought Charles Prescott would show up right after Sylvia left.’
But as it turned out, Charles Prescott didn’t show up all night.
’Unbelievable!’
’Good thing I was quick-witted!’
’Otherwise, would I have been stuck babysitting his son all night?’
...
「The next morning」
Anne slept in. The housekeeper came and knocked on her door.
"Ms. Sutton, Charles Prescott is here."
"..." Hearing this, Anne rolled over in bed.
She had slept enough anyway, so she got out of bed and went downstairs.
She saw Charles Prescott sitting on the sofa.
He had clearly made an effort to dress up before coming today; he even had a new hairstyle.
Anne saw him and asked, "What are you doing here?"
Charles Prescott sat on the sofa and said gracefully, "Leo was with you, he must have been a lot of trouble. Weren’t you begging me to come over last night? My apologies, I only just finished up with my work."
Anne yawned, looked at him, and said, "He’s not here."
"Did you really throw him out on the street?"
Anne said, "I had Sylvia Warren come and take him away."
Charles Prescott’s face darkened. "Are you trying to piss me off?"
’She actually let Sylvia Warren take him? The nerve of her to do that!’
"You’re the one who started this disgusting game!" Anne stared at the man. "So, why exactly did you send your son here?"
"Didn’t Ethan Linden take his son to Westhaven? So I had Leo come over to keep you company. You like children, don’t you? And Leo is very cute, isn’t he?"
’Why should only Ethan Linden’s son get special treatment?’
’I have a son, too!’
Anne stared at Charles Prescott in utter disbelief.
Charles Prescott said, "Ethan Linden is in Westhaven right now. It’s the perfect opportunity for me to keep you company. Have you eaten? Let me take you to a meal."
He wasn’t worried, even though Sylvia Warren had taken Leo.
’Sylvia wouldn’t dare do anything to the boy.’
Anne was so appalled she took two steps back. "I have no interest in keeping you company, so get lost! Don’t come here, or I’ll have to make the housekeeper deep-clean the place after you leave."
"Anne Sutton!" Charles said. "Can’t you tell I’m trying to win you over?"
"..." Anne said, "This is you getting revenge on me, right? Or did you come all this way just to make me sick?"
"Anything Ethan Linden can do, I can do too." Charles Prescott stood up, walked over to her, and leaned down to look her in the eyes. "You must be sick of being with him every day, right? I don’t mind serving you alongside him."
"..." ’Serve?’
That one word truly horrified Anne.
She stared at the man. "Are you sick in the head? Get out of my house, now!"
Charles Prescott looked at her and said, "As for the company, you are not to let Ethan Linden get involved. I will take care of it! This is what Nathan Fawcett wants, too. If you bring Ethan Linden into this, I won’t be happy."
It dawned on Anne. "So you pulled this whole stunt because you’re worried about your own position being insecure?"
