Married the Sick Uncle – Just Waiting to Inherit His Fortune

Chapter 362: Hearing Your Voice Makes Me Want to Throw Up

  • Next Chapter

Charles Prescott had never liked Ethan Linden.

But before, he had to consider that Ethan was the Head of the Linden Family. After the whole ordeal with Nathan Fawcett, Charles was now just making a living under Anne Sutton. He had no say in who she chose to be with.

But things were different now!

Ethan had been removed from his position; he had nothing to do with the Linden Family anymore.

He was just like him now, a man depending on Anne Sutton to get by!

’He’s not any better than me,’ he thought.

’If we’re talking about looks, I’m not bad myself!’

’Besides, Anne and I have years of history together.’

’This guy wants to join the Fawcett Group and take my place? Dream on!’

Charles Prescott looked at Nathan Fawcett and said, "It’s fine if you’re here at the company to check on things for her, but let me tell you, don’t even think about taking anything here away from me."

"..." Seeing that Charles Prescott was treating him as an enemy, Nathan Fawcett couldn’t help but chuckle.

Charles Prescott detected the disdain in his smile. "What are you laughing at?"

Nathan Fawcett said, "I just find it amusing. For me, getting operational control of the company is just a matter of saying the word to Anne. Given my relationship with her, you’re not seriously thinking of competing with me, are you? I’d say you should be trying to get on my good side, not offending me. You wouldn’t want your position to be at risk."

"You’re unbelievably shameless!" Charles Prescott exclaimed. "How can someone like you be so proud of being a freeloader! You actually need a woman to find you a job!"

"You want to be a freeloader too. You want to marry her and get everything the Fawcett Group has to offer. But does she even give you the time of day anymore?"

"..." Being provoked like this by another man, Charles Prescott was absolutely furious.

Henry Underwood stood to the side, watching his boss. ’He’s being a little childish, isn’t he?’ he thought.

’And this whole drama about vying for favor... it feels like something out of a palace intrigue show.’

Back in the office, Charles Prescott angrily slammed his phone on the desk and sat down. "I’m so pissed! So pissed!"

Henry Underwood said, "Sir, please calm down. Don’t let him provoke you."

"He can provoke me today, and tomorrow he’ll be walking all over me! Tell me, did Anne Sutton send him here to replace me? Huh? What’s so great about this guy, besides the fact that he has a son?"

Henry Underwood cleared his throat and reminded him, "You have a son too, sir."

’And it was because of that son,’ Henry thought, ’that Anne Sutton left in a huff back then.’

Charles Prescott looked up at Henry Underwood. "So you think I’m going to be kicked out too?"

Although Anne Sutton was the chairwoman of the Fawcett Group, she didn’t involve herself in management. She was a complete amateur, so he was the one who called all the shots at the company.

But if Ethan Linden got involved, then everything would be different!

Ethan had nowhere to go now. He was probably desperate to establish himself at the Fawcett Group. If that happened, would there still be a place for him in the company?

What’s more, he and Anne Sutton were a couple now. He could whisper sweet nothings in her ear...

In the past, Charles Prescott had only ever seen women get jealous and fight over him.

He never thought the day would come when he’d be the one getting jealous and fighting for attention!

...

Just as Anne Sutton was getting off work, a call came from Charles Prescott. "Anne Sutton!"

"What are you yelling about?" Anne Sutton asked, a hint of impatience in her voice.

Just hearing Charles Prescott’s voice was enough to annoy her.

Hearing Anne Sutton’s tone, Charles Prescott immediately lowered his voice. "Why did you have Ethan Linden come to Westhaven? Are you trying to bring him into the company?"

"What if he joins the company? Does that affect you? Didn’t you say you were too busy, that you couldn’t handle everything? Didn’t you ask me to attend a meeting for you last time? It would be great to have someone help you out!"

"Great, my ass!" Charles Prescott retorted. "I don’t need help. Get rid of him! The company doesn’t need anyone else!"

Anne Sutton said, "I’m in Veridia right now, and I’m swamped. If anything comes up in the future, just discuss it with him directly."

’The company was his in the first place!’

’He’s the one who gave it to me.’

Anne Sutton saw nothing wrong with giving it back to him now.

Even if Nathan Fawcett took the company away, it would only be right.

Her words were infuriating to Charles Prescott. "Talk to him? Why should I talk to him? Can he be trusted? He’s left the Linden Group and has nowhere else to go. He’ll probably try to steal the company! Let me tell you, you can’t trust men in this world. If you trust him too much, you’re going to pay for it. You’ll end up losing everything, including yourself."

Listening to Charles Prescott, Anne Sutton realized he had no idea that Ethan Linden was actually Nathan Fawcett.

’So Nathan must have gone there using his identity as Ethan?’

Anne Sutton chuckled. "Even if I lose everything, I’d do it willingly. What’s it to you? It’s my company, and I’ll give it to whomever I please."

"Is he really that great in your eyes?" Charles Prescott couldn’t believe Anne Sutton would say such a thing. "Back then, you did whatever it took to get everything from the Fawcett Family, going so far as to suck up to Nathan Fawcett, even sleeping with him. Now that you finally have it, you’re just going to hand it over to Ethan Linden?"

Anne Sutton replied, "That’s right! If he wants it, I’ll hand the company to him on a silver platter, as long as it makes him happy."

"I won’t allow it!" Charles Prescott’s tone was indignant. "If you dare do that, I’ll kill myself to show you."

"..." Anne Sutton listened in disbelief. "Are you insane?"

’First crying, then making a scene, and now threatening suicide? What’s next?’

’To think he’d say something like that!’

Anne Sutton said, "If you die that easily, I’ll be thrilled!"

"..." Charles Prescott was choked by her words. Seeing that she didn’t care at all, he said, "Why are you so good to him? We’ve known each other for so many years, at least."

"You know damn well why." ’Asking a question like that now... is he a complete idiot?!’

Charles Prescott said, "If you’re angry because of those other women, I can be a faithful man for you from now on. No Mia Shaw, no Sylvia Warren. I haven’t contacted them at all recently."

"Heh..." Anne Sutton felt like she must have misheard. "Since when did you have a change of heart, Mr. Prescott? You, faithful? How come that sounds so fake to me?"

"Anything Ethan Linden can do, I can do too," Charles Prescott said. "So, why are you so good to him? Why are you with him? Isn’t it just because I have a child with Sylvia Warren that you ignore me? Ethan has a child with another woman too, doesn’t he?"

If he was losing because of the child issue, he couldn’t understand it.

And he couldn’t accept it.

Anne Sutton sat on the sofa, listening to Charles Prescott without a word.

Charles Prescott demanded, "Say something! Don’t play dumb!"

"You’ll never compare to him," Anne Sutton said. "Don’t flatter yourself. From now on, if anything comes up with the company, you listen to Ethan Linden. Don’t call and ask me again. Just hearing your voice makes me want to puke."

With that, Anne Sutton hung up the phone.

’To think he’d dare compare his child with Sylvia Warren to her Ian.’
