Married the Sick Uncle – Just Waiting to Inherit His Fortune
Chapter 323: What Does a Single Dog Know?
Nathan Fawcett was already upset about Anne Sutton’s outfit, so seeing the damn Caleb Summers made his mood even fouler. "Why are you here again?"
Caleb Summers said, "I didn’t know what to eat, so I came over to freeload. Auntie asked me to."
With Mrs. Sutton backing him up, Nathan Fawcett didn’t dare say anything more.
However, Caleb Summers hadn’t actually noticed what Anne Sutton was wearing.
With her coat on, everything underneath was completely hidden. On the street, her outfit was as ordinary as it gets; plenty of girls dressed the same way.
It was just this guy, Nathan Fawcett, whose possessiveness was making him imagine the worst.
Nathan Fawcett said, "What, is your family so poor you can’t afford to eat anymore?"
Seeing Nathan Fawcett’s dark expression, Caleb Summers said, "Who got you so upset? Ethan, why the long face the second you see me? I just came over for a meal. Worst case, I can give you some spending money, how about that?"
"As if I need your money?" Nathan Fawcett said. "I’m just not in a good mood seeing you at my house all the time. If you don’t have a reason to be here, stay out of my sight."
"But I do have a reason today," Caleb Summers said. "I have to take Auntie out! Right, Auntie?"
Mrs. Sutton nodded, glanced at Nathan Fawcett, and said, "If... if Ethan Linden is unhappy about it, then we can just forget it."
She was still a little afraid of Nathan Fawcett.
Hearing Mrs. Sutton, Nathan Fawcett said, "Not at all. You’re overthinking things."
He was worried Mrs. Sutton would get the wrong idea, so he quickly changed his expression. After all, he was trying to get on her good side right now.
’If I want to marry Anne Sutton in the future, I’ll need Mrs. Sutton to put in a good word for me!’
Hearing Nathan Fawcett, Mrs. Sutton said, "Then let’s eat!"
Anne Sutton sat down, glanced at Caleb Summers, and said, "Making yourself right at home, are we?"
Caleb Summers said, "Ethan and I are practically family, right, Ethan?"
Nathan Fawcett shot him a glare. ’Family? Who wants to be family with him!’
’This man who’s always trying to steal other people’s partners!’
Sensing Nathan Fawcett’s unfriendly gaze, Caleb Summers asked, "By the way, Ethan, aren’t you coming out with us today?"
Nathan Fawcett said, "I have to go to the hospital."
"What’s wrong? Why the hospital? Are you not feeling well?" He looked a little worried.
After getting to know Caleb Summers, Anne Sutton realized he was actually quite good to Nathan Fawcett.
Nathan Fawcett said, "It’s nothing."
He didn’t really want to tell Caleb Summers about it. After all, he had his pride.
’If Caleb Summers found out, who knows how he’d laugh at me behind my back!’
Caleb Summers looked to Anne Sutton for help. Anne Sutton, looking helpless, didn’t tell him the truth either. ’If I tell him, I might not live to see tomorrow.’
After dinner, Anne Sutton left with her mother, along with Caleb Summers and Ian.
Caleb Summers was very attentive to Mrs. Sutton, driving her to look at a few storefronts.
Caleb Summers’s properties were all quite large and in good locations.
The Summers Family was also in real estate, and this guy, Caleb Summers, kept all the best locations for himself. It was downright criminal.
Mrs. Sutton picked out two that looked promising. She looked at Caleb Summers and asked, "How much would a place like this cost for a year?"
Caleb Summers said, "Not much. Around two or three hundred thousand."
Anne Sutton shot him a look. "Are you kidding me? Do you think we’re clueless about the market?"
Caleb Summers looked at Anne Sutton and said, "Sister-in-law, what are you talking about? How would I dare! I’m telling you the truth."
"I’ve asked about the storefronts around here before. There’s no way you could get one for two or three hundred thousand. This is a prime location. Caleb Summers, just tell us the real price. We asked you to show us some places, not to take advantage of you. You don’t have to give us special treatment on Nathan Fawcett’s account. We’re here to do business. What are you, a philanthropist?"
’I can’t just let him show us places and lose money on the deal.’
Hearing Anne Sutton’s words, Caleb Summers said, "Alright."
He had no choice but to tell the truth.
Anne Sutton looked at her mother. "Mom, what do you think? If you feel it’s suitable, we can lock it in. If not, we can look at some others."
Mrs. Sutton said, "I’d like to go back and think about it."
Caleb Summers said, "You should take your time. There’s no rush. Auntie, just let me know whenever you’ve decided."
Mrs. Sutton nodded. "Okay."
...
At the hospital, Nathan Fawcett underwent a series of tests as requested by the doctor.
The doctor said his "allergy" to women was a psychological disorder that required therapy and also prescribed him some medication.
When Nathan Fawcett finished his tests and came out, he saw Anna Linden waiting for him.
Anna Linden looked at him and asked, "How did it go?"
Nathan Fawcett told her the truth.
Hearing him, Anna Linden said, "Then you need to clear your schedule. While my friend is in town, have him give you proper treatment."
This friend of hers was often out of the country.
It was a rare opportunity.
Nathan Fawcett looked at Anna Linden and nodded. "By the way, I want to marry Anne Sutton."
Hearing this, Anna Linden glanced at him and said, "What’s the rush? Get yourself cured first, then we’ll talk."
"But my condition doesn’t stop me from marrying her," Nathan Fawcett said to Anna Linden. "If you agree, I’d like to start planning our wedding."
Hearing this, Anna Linden looked at Nathan Fawcett and said, "Once you’re healthy, if you still want to marry her, then I’ll approve of you two being together. For now, don’t even think about it."
"..." Listening to his mother, Nathan Fawcett realized she still didn’t like Anne Sutton.
’She probably thinks that once I’m better, I’ll fall for someone else!’
However, Nathan Fawcett had no such thoughts at the moment.
When Anne Sutton and the others got home, they saw Nathan Fawcett sitting on the front steps, not having gone inside.
She then remembered she had never told him the passcode for the door.
Anne Sutton looked at him sitting there. ’It’s so cold out. Isn’t he freezing?’
Anne Sutton said, "Why are you sitting out here? You could have at least called me."
’It’s a keypad lock; I could have just told him the code so he could get in.’
Nathan Fawcett looked at her. "It’s nothing. I just thought it was nice to sit here and enjoy the view."
Anne Sutton laughed, amused. "What view is there to see here?"
Nathan Fawcett reached out and took her hand. His was chilly, while hers was warm from having just gotten out of the car.
She looked at Nathan Fawcett. "Are you trying to freeze me to death so you can inherit my meme collection?"
He looked at her and said gently, "How could I bear to?"
Ian and Mrs. Sutton had already opened the door and gone inside.
Caleb Summers walked past them, Nathan Fawcett’s cheesy line giving him goosebumps. ’Good grief! Is this even the same guy I know?’
’Is this still the same Nathan Fawcett who avoided women like the plague?’
’Why is he like a completely different person in front of Anne Sutton?’
He quickly went inside.
Anne Sutton glanced at his retreating back, then looked at Nathan Fawcett. "Not worried about Caleb Summers making fun of you now?"
"What does a single guy like him know?" Nathan Fawcett stood up. He was already taller than Anne Sutton, and now that he was standing on the steps, she couldn’t even reach his shoulder.
